I did both in one day too, not as sunny but definitely worth it. I also worked at GPL a decade and cleaned that house you were staying in. Definitely the best rooms you can have there.

That's a hell of a place to work 👍🏼! That was one of our favorite places to stay. Just got back from East G a week ago. Can't get enough of that place. It's probably my favorite, right up there with the North Cascades. Glad you found the video! Cheers!

Looking forward to doing the Ptarmigan Tunnel with my family soon! We moved to Missoula 2 years ago and we go to Glacier National Park a lot now! St. Mary's Peak to the lookout tower in Stevensville, MT was our first hike :) Thanks for the videos!

Great video!! I worked there in 1975 as a Red Bus Driver (aka Jammer). I did both hikes in the same day and there were hardly any other people then. My son and I were there 2 weeks ago and he wanted to see Iceberg Lake. We made it, but I had forgotten how steep it was during the first 2 miles. Our leg muscles were hurting for a while! And I was 21 years old for the first hike and full of energy! Thanks again for posting the video!

@@TheMountainMatt which would you pick- Swiftcurrent hiking trail from Many Glacier or drive to Waterton Lakes National Park?
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt Жыл бұрын
@@laurenstone3182 ohhh man! I did Swiftcurrent up to almost Swiftcurrent pass last fall before a storm came in, it’s incredible! The highway up to Waterton runs mostly alongside the Lewis Range (Glacier) to your west. You won’t really be in the mountains until you’re well into Canada. I’m the type that likes to get up into the thick of it. But, for those people who enjoy the drive by touristy things then the drive to Waterton is probably just fine. It’s going to be a totally different experience either way. One experience will be mind blowing from in the valley and if you go up to the pass it will get even better. Whereas, the drive up to Waterton will be mind blowing from a distance through a windshield. I think you know which one I would choose 😉. Waterton would be a good day after a big hiking day if you’re tired and need to recoup. You’ll love either one 👍🏼😁.

@@TheMountainMatt thank you! I think we will choose Swiftcurrent Pass! Another question - if we do Swiftcurrent Pass hike do you think the Highline trail is worth it? When I look at the All Trails Map it seems like it may give similar views? I’m trying to decide if we should hike the Highline trail the day we check out at Many Glacier on our way down GTTSR towards Whitefish for our last night. (This will be after 3 full days of hiking in Many Glacier ) I also read if you are short on time you can hike 2 miles in on Highline and then head back to Logan Pass. Basically I’m asking if we should push ourselves to do Highline Trail - if the views are worth it we will do it!
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt Жыл бұрын
@@laurenstone3182 Highline Trail is in the canyon just over the Swiftcurrent Pass from Many Glacier. You’d get a completely different view on the Highline Trail if you start at Logan Pass. Highline basically starts at Logan Pass and ends miles down the GTTSR at The Loop, which is right near Swiftcurrent Pass. The Highline will be super busy so be prepared for that. Logan Pass is always packed for most of the day as well. If you plan for the Highline prepare for parking issues up there. Try to start as early as possible. Mount Oberline is across the canyon from the Highline and offers way more solitude and similar views. It’s a super fun scramble and only took us a few hours. It’s a great half day adventure!

Hey Matt, I appreciate all of your videos. You clearly take A LOT of extra time getting good shots for us who follow along. Would you mind sharing a) the most difficult hike you've done in Glacier and also b) your favorite hike you've done? Thanks in advance. BTW, your advice was very helpful when my family went to Tetons! Didn't quite make it up to the Jaw but got close. We got sidelined with excessive snow and inadequate gear. :) Thanks again!
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt 6 ай бұрын
That’s great that you got so far into Hanging Canyon👍🏼! Tetons got some late spring snow that is probably going to take awhile to melt. As far as Glacier goes… the most difficult would be either Dragonstail because of the steep LOOSE shale, although it is a short scramble it’s very dangerous. Siyeh Mountain, Sinopah Mountain and Grinnell Mountain were long steep slogs as well but didn’t feel as dangerous. I would have to say that Siyeh would be my most favorite in Glacier to date. Although it’s more of a climb. It had everything, amazing views and all kinds of wildlife. You can’t really go wrong in Glacier, every mountain or trail has its own incredible beauty. My favorite hike would probably be either Dawson Pass or Iceberg Lake. They’re amazing!

@@TheMountainMatt Thanks so much for the response. I'll let you know what we ended up doing! Going in a few weeks. I loved that you and your wife split off on several excursions. I'm going with my two sons who are 17 and 14 along with my wife and daughter who is 9. My daughter has done 13 miles in South Dakota up to Black Elk Peak but I'm thinking there'll be times when it's ideal to bifurcate. :)

@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt Жыл бұрын
Ptarmigan Tunnel is gorgeous because it's so unique and has two lakes to enjoy. Iceberg Lake is a little easier to get to but will have more people. In my opinion Iceberg is a hair more beautiful but it's just the lake whereas Ptarmigan has a few more things to feast your eyes upon. Hope that helps! You can't go wrong with either one.

I've done Iceberg twice; have always passed on Ptarmigan. It's on my radar. Siyeh Pass is another highly rated hike I've always skipped, but I know many people love it, including your girls. Gunsight Pass is currently number one on my list for Glacier... Highly recommend Swiftcurrent Lookout and Pass; did both last summer! 😍
