I am not sure how to face this with my nearly two year old twins. I´m afraid they would prefer to through everything out and would not be interested in cleaning it out later either. I also cannot imagine to leave this material out without supervision. Any tips? Or are they just too young? I always set up limits when sensory playing but it does not work very well and lately I´m also taking any oportunity to teach them how to clean after themselves when accidents but they are not always interested. Thank you!

I would definitely suggest that you take it in stages. Set out perhaps 2-3 easy activities and start with dry materials. Children at this age should always be supervised. Not so much so that you are hovering and correcting but more for safety and also for observing if you need to make adjustments to the activity. When using the dry materials use only as much as you are willing to clean up. Include a child size handheld broom and dust pan to clean up materials. It’s wonderful that you are showing them how to clean up. Mistakes and accidents happen. It’s how they learn. If they can’t clean up the entire activity, let them choose a way to help. If they don’t like the dry materials use colorful pompoms that they can transfer into a container or transfer from bowl to bowl. It’s easier to clean up. If they do end up misusing the materials then I would redirect them, and just say “It looks like you may not be ready for these materials quite yet. Why don’t we try again tomorrow.” Remember that they’re still learning. What sorts of things do your twins do when you set up sensory materials and what kinds of materials do you set out?

@@allhart Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. We use mostly rice and pasta at home and they do like to scoop and fill containers. They love to sit inside the bins too :) I´ll definitely follow your tips, this is a learning process for them and for me, thanks again!

By the way, how do you avoid them going through the shelf and just taking everything and throw it or do whatever? My daughter is 17 months and she does this a lot and I don't know how to managed it.
@allhart
@allhart 3 жыл бұрын
I would start off slow, with no more than 2-3 different activities. I would also limit the amount of materials you use. Present the activity (meaning, show your daughter what she’s supposed to do) and then see what she does. If she misuses the materials I would show her again. If she continues to misuse the materials then I would either switch out the materials to something easier to clean up, like colorful pom poms or pasta or I would remove the activity and try again the following day. It’ll take patience, and repetition. Sometimes children just aren’t interested yet, and that’s completely ok. You can circle back to it later. ❤️

What ages are these activities for? Thank you for this amazing work 🙏🏻
@allhart
@allhart 3 жыл бұрын
Typically these activities are for children ages 2 and above. But every child is different. And you can use different materials. It doesn’t have to be lentils. If your child is younger, I suggest using Pom poms or pasta…something larger that they can scoop. And ofcourse always under supervision ❤️

Before children play with Montessori games should we as a parent show them how they should do by showing them or just asking them to play with them?
@allhart
@allhart 3 жыл бұрын
It’s important to show how the materials should be used first. Then allow your child to explore the material. When they are first introduced to something new, I like to sit with them to ensure that they’ve understood the concept. I do not expect them to do it 💯 correctly the first time or the tenth time. It takes patience and repetition for them to master a particular skill. But I am there to observe and if I need to make adjustments to the activity I can, and to also make sure the materials aren’t being misused ❤️
