The Black Mirror creators have spoken out about this... and they had intended to launch "Red Mirror" thats why Demon 79 was "presented by Red Mirror", and it was gonna be a horror focused spin-off series. So they probably had focused on that and if it fell through they let it influence alot of their newest Black MIrror season....

I completely sympathize with your dog situation. Our beloved golden retriever Molly passed away four months ago and we think about her every day. My wife wants to get a rescue dog, but I’m not ready to endure another emotional loss…at least not yet. As for recommendations, the series From is incredibly good, as is Silo, which is more science fiction. Spoiler…The Crowded Room… My wife figured it out pretty quickly, as she often does. If you look at the book title of the source material, it actually gives it away. (“The Many Minds…”) I’ll just say: “Sybil.”

I was honestly disappointed with the new season of Black Mirror for the same reasons as you, the episodes weren't bad per se, but they definitely were not Black Mirror. Joan is Awful and Beyond the Sea were the best, didn't care for the rest. Also sorry to hear about Gromit, hoping he has a speedy recovery.

I deff think that Black Mirror is becoming more like American Horror Story! Which is so incredibly tragic. There are so many good tech ideas out there that they could explore, especially with the rise of AI going on right now! Keep the supernatural/fantasy elements out of Black Mirror and stick to science-fiction in my opinion! So sorry about your pup, sending him love and healing energy

Great recap of what you watched! I thought Joan is Awful was a solid Black Mirror episode, but I could relate to what you said about it becoming more like AHS on the whole. No worries about when you post a less favourable opinion of something that others like, too. I think it's refreshing to embrace differing opinions and there's no shame in it; it'd be a pretty boring world if we all felt the same way about things we watched! Appreciate your content. And my wife and I are sighthound lovers (we had a sweet greyhound and now a whippet). I like In Fear. I saw it randomly when it was new and didnt think that much about it at the time… but a few years later I relized I keept thinking about “that random movie where they are stuck in the car trying to find their way out of the coutryside”. …realized ghe whole stuck-in-a-place struck some sort of chord in me as it’s a reoccuring theme in many of my own nightmares. Some sort of archetype that works for me I guess.

So, I'm one of the people who LOVED History of the Occult and I feel like I need to spoil it to explain why.... So SPOILER . . . . . . I went into the movie clocking all the references to Rosemary's Baby and things like that, and as we were going along I felt like the whole thing was going to be a kind of Argentinian retelling of something like that, that the antichrist would be revealed or something. But as you mentioned I started noticing weird things like the people in the house being filmed in a more grainy 35 mm film type of quality, while the tv studio was like super hi-def digital but black and white. And then when the red light started to creep in to reveal that there was color lurking under some hidden layer of the world it was another kind of clue, but I thought well this is tied to the witch cult. Third big moment and one of the major keys to my read of the movie was when they were all blindfolded and the one guy saw the laser, looked a bit like the HAL laser from 2001, which in 1988 they could have seen so not terribly out of place, but the fact it was a laser that actually disintegrated him... And then when the big actual reveal comes and Natalia has an iPhone and Adrian Marcato reveals the truth and everything switches to like 4k vibrant hypercolor in the present day... That's when I realized what the reference actually was. History of the Occult is a secret tribute to the Philip K Dick novel VALIS. VALIS was a semi-autobigraphical sci-fi novel where the main character, who is a direct stand-in for the author, discovers that there is a conspiracy about reality and that everyone is living in a simulation and that we're all actually in a stasis moment where time has fractured around the moment of the crucifixion of Jesus. The trigger for his revelation was this pink laser beam that awakened him. And the amazing thing about this is that Philip K Dick actually believed this and that his experience of seeing the pink laser was based on an actual moment in his life that changed him forever. There's a whole compendium of his personal notes and analysis of this pulled together by novelist Jonathan Lethem and Pamela Jackson called The Exegesis of Philip K Dick that goes over all of this. VALIS is one of Dick's most famous works, and it's one that has never really successfully been put to film. So to see the director/writer Cristian Ponce do this homage to VALIS was actually mind-blowing for me and probably a lot of the other people who gave this movie a super high rating. Going back over the film you can really see all of the tiny details that in hindsight lay everything out. I just loved the skill of it and how it all led back to the big reveal. I never saw this coming in a million years. I never would have guessed that this movie that I thought was going to be a Rosemary's Baby tribute would actually wind up being a tribute to one of my favorite novels ever written. So that's my take on it and I hope that maybe explains a bit why some folks, like myself, are really loving this film.

So I have a question about a movie I remember watching as a child. I remember a movie where a man captures women and keeps them in dog crates in his (I think unfurnished) attack and scalps them. There may be a party going on downstairs during one of the scalping scenes. When I looked this up I found maniac (2012) and it’s definitely not that but it may be maniac (1980) but I’m not sure, I remember it being an early 2000s movie. Thank you!

Ha what you said about Black Mirror was so on the nose, that's actually what they were doing, there are several straight up horror episodes. They were making a show/spin off called Red Mirror that was just horror, but the pandy put an end to that. Some of these were scripts written for the Red Mirror brand. You'll see some of the episodes, I remember the last one in particular, have the Red Mirror productions or something. That's to the best of my knowledge anyway. I didn't read too deeply. Did not know In Fear is an Irish film, it is often up on the Channel 4 player, but struck me as a bit boring so didn't watch it. Love these round ups

Yeah Black Mirror definitely let me down for it to be gone for soooo long. Beyond the Sea would have been a good episode of I didn’t already know how it would end. I found it quite obvious once he started acting jealous that it would end that way so he could feel his pain. So that kind of messed it up for me. Loch Henry was definitely my favorite episode even if it wasn’t black mirror-esque

I just saw it last night!!! Didn’t expect to i only got to because Gromit went in for surgery. I loved it! I thought it was so well casted and the changes made so much sense for a live action version. I liked they blocked it almost exactly the same as the cartoon at times!

Thank you! a lot of people seem to love Malum, but I found it weak compared to last shift. They did way to much with the reimagining, also considering the budget was bigger the demon looked terrible. Also the cult leader in last shift was terrifying, the face make up was bad ass, but they replaced that awesome character with a guy that wears a turtleneck and looks bland as hell…that made me so mad
