Saw them at Pine Knob in Clarkston Michigan. They have a 10:30 pm curfew. After 10:30, it’s a $1,000 a minute fine. Montrose was the encore after the Wabos. They played 6-7 songs. Sammy paid around $30,000 to have Montrose play for Detroit again. It was awesome! Thank you Sammy Hagar! This was a life long desire to see Montrose and Sammy made it happen!

Sammy and Ronnie work so well together. To bad they feel there is no enough room to write, record, and tour under the Montrose band name.. I miss Ronnie now that he passed on April 2, 2012. I miss you man. ;(

There are lots of players who are flashier (and I like them too!) but while I can listen to Holdsworth or Vai, etc. for 10 or 15 minutes, I can listen to Ronnie Montrose for 2 or 3 hours. I had the pleasure of shuttling him around Boston for a day, back around 1990 and he was just a regular, nice guy. No BS, just real nice. Great guy, great player, great music.

Totally fantastic.I agree, Ronnie Montrose's music was the REAL ROCK DEAL. The sense of urgency and drive that Ronnie's playing and writing invoked in the listener was a BLAST of the New through Rock. Here was the first modern American Hard Rock album. "Montrose" will last for as long as America does, and young listeners will gravitate towards it's honesty and clarity of playing.Ronnie's more contemporary music is just as good, with melodies ranging from sublime, to scary and then gorgeous.BRAVO

aside from Ronnie's "Hilarious" comment @ 0:14 sec. (LMAO!!!!!....."Mine's Not!") this intro gave me chills... reminded me how soul shaking that first album was. watch Ronnie as he assumes the rock god pose' that he owns, just before launching into this 'oh-so-familiar' bone crunching 70's rock riff. let's not forget 'who this guy was". the band "Montrose... WAS, the American Led Zeppelin. and Mr. Ronnie was a true pioneer and architect of a then 'burgeoning' and 'still somewhat unexplored' hard rock guitar territory. That band was LEGEND

Hey, I was there, too ... and they played the following - Space Station #5, Rock Candy, I Got the Fire, Connection, Bad Motor Scooter, and, of course, Rock the Nation. What a great gig! Ronnie actually did a small club solo tour supporting his all-acoustic album a few months later. Got a chance to talk with him after the gig - a great guy, and really appreciative of the fans who stayed with him through the years. So sad to hear about all of the demons he had to deal with.

ROCK THE NATION, their standard opening song...I have to agree with shirtgod... the original first MONTROSE album is a classic that is a must for anybody who wants to know what 70's rock was all about. I was fortunate to see Montrose (w/Sammy) at Winterland (SFO) - saw both post-breakup too but them together was the best - ALSO agree wrt Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush) .. both of these acts were overshadowed by the disco era at that time. Thank you GONZOTV for this video.

One of my all-time favorite ensembles. I've only been able to see Ronnie with the original Edgar Winter Group in '76 with Mountain(Leslie West), and in Germany doing solo: "Town Without Pity" (F'in Awsome Rendition), Then Hagar with Van Hagar in '83 with Scorpions and Metalica. Well-spent tickets.

It was mind-blowing and very important we made the $12 round trip up from Anaheim. Check into the Holiday inn 500 feet down from the Regency Ballroom and walk down managed to get into the venue 6 hours before the concert started! We were there for all the preliminary for the pre-concert sound checks of every band or the pre-concert dinner for the three or four hour concert and for the hour post-concert supper we got out of there about 1 in the morning and we were absolutely exhausted drained I can imagine what the musicians felt like it was one for the ages in many ways 8 years later I still haven't come down from that Ronnie tribute so much love in that room and so much great music gamma and Montrose reuniting with Marc Bonilla and Joe Satriani playing guitar respectively Neil Sean was pretty good too

I was 15 yrs when this self titled Montrose debut LP was released in 73. I borrowed it from my oldest bros record collection & brought it to a friends house party. When it finally got spinning on the table it was a hit! Everyone started grooving to the rocking beat & guitar riffs from Ronnie. I became an instant hit also as friends & acquaintances asked who scored this cool LP! I never told them it belonged to my bro as I was enjoying the camaraderie & fame. I still play it today but, much louder now that I could afford a decent hifi system with multiple amps & really good speakers. Sorry bro but it was my 15mins of fame lol

I give props to Sammy he tried to get the band back together. He realized how tight the music was from the first Montrose album, but the dreaded egos and infighting ensued causing the permanent split. Why is it we see this type of internal clashing causing the ultimate break ups of bands that were destined to change the music scene happen so often? Alas we do have the original Montrose collab to fall back on. Iconic heavy rock that would have rivaled Led Zep American style. RIP Ronnie Montrose
