I was in 8th grade at a Catholic School when Life Of Brian was released. The school and church were so upset about this film we were all called into an assembly where we were told that by no means we were to see this offensive film. Before this assembly I had never heard of the film, and as it was rated "R" would likely never have seen it at age 13 anyway. - That friday we were released from school early and usually we would take in a film a the local movie theater. We all purchased our tickets for "Breaking Away" a PG film about a bicycle rider- and immediately snuck into the the other theater showing Life Of Brian! So glad we did. My first ever Rated R film and it was a classic. BIG thanks to Sister Margaret and Father Mayer!

@Fangs19787 жыл бұрын
I couldn't disagree more. You only need to be aware of the existence of suicide squads in general to get the final joke and since it's Monty Python it doesn't have to make "sense". In fact having it come out of left field made the final joke a lot more effective and having the Otto scene in would have given it away. I'm all for taking the piss out of Zionism, but the Otto scene was a bit drawn out, and "oh look a Jewish Nazi" isn't enough of a joke to justify a scene that long IMO.
@wavesofwoodenlegs7 жыл бұрын

Great to see as outtakes. I'm glad they took them out, because I think they would have been boring as part of the movie. The shepherds go on for too long. I don't get the joke of Pilate's wife. Cleese does a great weird dance, but basically he's done that before. (Silly walks.) And the Otto scene would have taken away the suicidal squad surprise in the crucifixion scene.
@coralarch7 жыл бұрын
I believe the Otto scene was chopped due to the Jews who own the rights objecting to not only his helmet insignia, but to references of lebensraum in Palestine and ethnic cleansing in Samaria. Personally, I love the shepherds, yapping on about sheep and missing all the angelic action!

But I wonder how they did to make the fight start again after "Let's fight our common enemy". I mean, did they shoot new footage or were they able to put it together by using footage they had and just adding some lines of dialogue? ("Right, where were we" etc...)
