The fact that the subtitle gag from the opening credits works 10 times better in 2022 than it did in 1975 is always hilarious to me.

Surprisingly archaeologists have found remnants of ancient grenades used even before when this film was set made of thick pottery and even patterned to better shrapnel. The last castle in the film is a castle on an island in Scotland that someone actually still lives in.

You're one of the few reactors I've seen that get how to approach watching this movie. Just let your brain go and enjoy the rollercoaster. Most reactors try to make some kind of linear sense about what is happening and end up totally gobsmacked an hour into the movie because they assume the film is going to follow the rules most movies follow and it never does. Asking why anything happens in this movie just turns your brain into a pretzel. Just accept that whatever happened did and move on to the next scene while laughing hysterically.

I also like that the swallow thing is also in the scene with the witch when they are bringing her in, there's a quick clip of a guy attaching a coconut to a swallow. The random bits of continuity this movie has is great
@QuisletEsq2 жыл бұрын
You got all the jokes. Although there are some you get only after multiple viewings. For example did you see Bedevere when he is first shown is try to see if a dove could carry a coconut? Plus in the opening credits, the moose got replaced by llamas in the final bit.
@gokaury2 жыл бұрын
That ending is what is known as a literal "cop-out ending." The Pythons couldn't figure out how to end the movie, and they didn't have the budget nor the extras for a large scale battle against the French. So they did the only thing they could do and that was the cop-out ending seen in the final cut of the film.
@amberaegard2 жыл бұрын
They didn't have budget for horses so that's why the coconuts are a thing lol

Very good reaction ! Seems you had a lot of fun so the next step is naturally their movie "Life of Brian" which is also extraodinary. And for more Python related stuff there is also their 3rd movie "The meaning of Life" and their groundbreaking TV series on the BBC "Monty Python's Flying Circus". I'd also recommend watching the "Fawlty Towers" TV show which is incredible comedy, pretty sure you will enjoy it :)

"Is this genius?" You've taken your first step into a larger world... You should see every other Monty Python movie, and then you should see every movie directed by Python alums Terry Gilliam (especially "Time Bandits" "Brazil" "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" "12 Monkeys" and "The Fisher King") and Terry Jones ("Erik The Viking") "A Fish Called Wanda" is a fantastic ensemble comedy featuring Python alums and some of Hollywoods hottest comedy stars at the time, who reunited for another great movie called "Fierce Creatures"

This movie has soooo much historical facts in it played for laughs. My favorite is that they scream “run away” because this period is before the French invaded, so the French word “retreat” hadn’t entered the English vocabulary yet.

In fact, the word "genius" does get mentioned with the Pythons from time to time. Their style of humor even became part of the language, "pythonesque". It's known for its savagery and imagination, and one of their innovations was to intercut sketches with weird animations (by American Terry Gilliam) in order to avoid having to end bits with big punchlines. This movie is the first extension of their sketch-based comedy series which ran for several seasons on the BBC. Most of us non-Brits miss some of the British stuff here and there. Castle Anthrax is home to "eight score" girls, which is 160 total. The witch says "it's a fair cop" when she's weighed against the duck, which is the equivalent to "you caught me red-handed".
@robbob53022 жыл бұрын
Oh. I thought she said "That was a fair prop", but sarcastically.
@ink-cow2 жыл бұрын
@@robbob5302 Yeah, the phrase pops up in their TV series from time to time too. It's supposed to be a sort of ridiculous cliche for a genteel British criminal to say when being arrested. You can find the phrase explained on different websites, even "fair cop" listed on Urban Dictionary.

Fatty Arbuckle broke the fourth wall in a silent short in 1917. Groucho Marx did in in a few Marx Brothers films in the 30's. And she said 8 score girls, which would be 160.

In case nobody already explained the logic with the witch and the duck, I do believe that, being in the Middle Ages, people thought weight determined whether or not something would float in water. And since both wood and ducks are known for floating in water, the villagers assumed that they weighed the same. The rest is already explained during that scene. Basically, people (or at least in this movie) had a very flawed sense of logic.

Perfect Monty Python where you can just get sucked into something where you don't have to think about anything and just let yourself go. 5. "What ya gonna do? Bleed on me." 🤣 6. Quick bit: "Blow it out your ass"! 7. The budget didn't allow real horses. 8. The only horse in the film is ridden by the guy that killed the historian. 9. The ending is a "Cop out"

Much of our modern humour is based on/referencing Monty Python. Funny thing is: no one wanted to help fund the film. They had to ask George Harrison from the Beatles for the 2M needed to produce it.

Most people take a while to acclimatize to Python. It looks like you just relaxed and let it do its thing. Yes, these guys were the hugest of trolls. Their humor is completely absurd, surreal, and outright silly -- and yet, it's genius. Those of us who were lucky enough to have seen their TV show were already primed and this went down very well. One joke gets overlooked this the ending credits. That's right! There are none. They fired those people at the beginning of the movie. Genius.

Won’t see anything like it again? But there is more Monty Pythons to watch! Monty Python’s Life of Brian is certainly a masterpiece worth watching… If you’re more interested in their roots, but don’t feel up to watching their whole TV series, their movie “And Now For Something Completely Different” is like a bunch of their material remixed into a movie format… Monty Python’s Meaning of Life is a bit of a mixed bag, but maybe you’d enjoy it… If you’re aware of the broadway musical Spamalot, it was made by one of the people in this film and loosely based on this film itself. It’s a fun time if you can find a way to watch it.

First off great reaction! You totally got it, most people try to make sense of the movie, bad move. Monty Python are legendary in England and all their movies and TV shows have cult status. You need to watch their next film The Life of Brian its even better imo. They have a bigger budget and a fact is that George Harrison from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and others all funded these movies for Monty Python. You should also check out Fawlty Towers with John Cleese, an English sitcom which also has cult status and the best British TV comedy of all time. Do yourself a favour and watch The Life of Brian ASAP... You'll not regret it!!

Donnie Darko Napoleon Dynamite Princess Bride Any Quentin Tarantino movies Little Miss Sunshine John Wick series, along with the Matrix movies Fight Club Seven If you enjoy movies adapted from Steven King stories, try "Stand by me", Misery", Carrie (original), Pet Cemetery (Original) and the Shining. The earlier "Rocky" series is wonderful too. Reactions to the Harry Potter series and the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy will bring lots of traffic to your channel. Of course, there are still the MCU series, Indiana Jones series, etc.
