One reviewer described the "Mr. Creosote" sketch as "resembling a medieval morality play on the evils of gluttony." Also: An old friend of mine had a fishtank containing a lionfish. Lionfish only eat live food, so every few days he would put a guppy in. Upon seeing it, the lionfish would freeze motionless - then suddenly, it would be six inches further ahead and the guppy would have vanished. We named the lionfish "Mr. Creosote."

Since you like this sort of thing, here’s an interesting anecdote that was related to me by a friend of mine who met Eric Idle. My friend got to be a roadie for a show Eric Idle was doing and at one point, Idle decided to have lunch with all the roadies and he asked them who their favorite Python was and then he’d tell them a story about whoever they chose. Someone said that Terry Jones was their favorite Python and Idle told a story about a time he and Jones went to an orchestra performance together. Apparently, the conductor suddenly fell ill and couldn’t conduct the show, so the staff at the music hall asked if by any chance there was a qualified conductor in the audience. Terry Jones happened to be a qualified conductor and agreed to conduct the show. Funny thing is, by the end of the show, he was completely naked. He did his job conducting the show, but all the while, he was gradually removing his clothes. It was the best orchestra performance Idle had ever attended.

The only reason people have a problem with this movie is that they feel it is too different from all the other Python stuff. But then, that means there's a problem with people's _expectations,_ not with the film itself. If you go into a movie with preconceived notions, that's on you, not the movie. Another victim of this was The Muppets, not to be confused with Jim Henson's original The Muppet Show. In The Muppets, they decided to do a "The Office" type show, but with muppets. The idea was actually about six years too late,_ not early, It wasn't perfect, & mixing live humans in relationships with them didn't always work. (Why would anyone _think_ any human would be attracted to Fozzy Bear)? But where it worked, it _really_ worked, & having the muppets deal in real life relationships was handled brilliantly in most cases. Too many people said "these aren't _MY_ Muppets." True that. But that's just it. They went in there with blinders on & chose _NOT_ to see what was, for what reason? Preconceived notions are useless.

All the fish would like to thank you for watching this movie. This is my favorite Monty Python movie. They took all the stops out, so as to offend everyone at one time or another. It did drag on a bit in places, such as the "Every Sperm is Sacred" song. Yeah, how were all those little kids singing that? Did you not see the skit towards the end with the naked women running in the sports helmets? I can't believe there's a censored version floating around the internet with that scene taken out. The Mr. Creosote throwing up in the restaurant and then blowing up was the gross part you were being warned about, but I found that funny ("It's just a wafer thin mint."). There is a lot of philosophy in it about the meaning of life (other than people need to wear more hats), so you'll need to watch it again, and maybe again. I must have watching it 40 or 50 times back in the 90s. I haven't been the same since.

This movie is a lot like their TV show. Loose thread through the whole thing. Just silly skits. Love it. "The Crimson Permanent Assurance" is Terry Gilliam taking a small idea and going overboard to make his own movie. Almost. They just gave it it's own space and left him alone. At the premier of Life of Brian, as thy were being hailed as conquering heroes, a producer approached John Cleese and said to him, "You know, if you boys made a third film right away, you could retire and never have to work again." Fun Fact:- Graham Chapman studied medicine and was a qualified doctor. And may even have known how to to use the machine that went ping. Oh and Palin And Jones

IIRC Graham was the Production Doctor for Life of Brian. Saved loads of money as they only had to hire a local pharmacist.

My grandmother got the worst sunburn she ever had on an overcast day in either Galveston or Corpus Christi, Texas. Beware the cloudy days.

Matt Frewer was also an occasional character on Eureka, playing a slightly mad Aussie animal expert. His accent was terrible but fabulous.

Please look up John Cleese giving the eulogy at Graham Chapman's funeral. It's brilliant.

Now you have to watch the show Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969 - 1974), I know you've already seen bits of it, but literally no one on youtube has reacted to full episodes of the series, and I want someone to...

What makes Meaning of Life different from Holy Grail and Life of Brian is that it follows the sketch formula much like in Flying Circus while Grail and Brian had their own distinct storylines. Here are a couple of fun facts. The actress who plays the teacher's wife is best known for playing Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The scene with Mr Creosote was actually filmed in a warehouse with no air conditioning. The fake vomit was also dairy based and went bad during filming so due to the set having no air conditioning, the extras ended up sick from how bad the smell was and you can see some of them actually vomiting after Mr Creosote explodes.
