Yeah, except the Romans are just credited for literally everything because they conquered Gaul and Britain. If conventional academia could, and it weren't for hard archeological evidence, the Romans would also be credited for inventing metallurgy, the Viking longship, the recurve bow, the chariot and the taming of horses 🙄. That was the Scythians, as we now know. Also for another example, it was actually the Gauls who invented the famous Roman shields and the horseshoe and many other things we credit Romans for. The Gauls were master smiths and craftsmen.

I used ot think comedians of today and youtubers were funny. And they are by no means they arent, but they are no where near Monty Python. 80% of their scenes are thought provoking, theyre not just there for shits and giggles, and thts why honestly, their movies are funnier the 2nd or 3rd time. I think though if Conan, Chapelle and Norm Mcdonald got together that would be a great troupe.

The film's themes of religious satire were controversial at the time of its release, drawing accusations of blasphemy and protests from some religious groups. Thirty-nine local authorities in the United Kingdom imposed either an outright ban or an X (18 years) certificate. Some countries, including Ireland and Norway, banned its showing, and in a few of these, such as Italy, bans lasted over a decade. The filmmakers used the notoriety to promote the film, with posters in Sweden reading, "So funny it was banned in Norway!"

I don't think he's a troll! I always see this as: That guy isn't that sharp, and he is trying to answer Reg's question. It's a rhetorical question, of course so Reg is put out. This whole thing always cracks me up because I AM Reg, more or less! But really it's the wrong question. It's not what the Romans have given you or taken from you, if you just don't like being conquered, if you just don't like their attitude. Ted Rall had a cartoon book about this kind of thing in Afghanistan: ( After We Kill You, We Will Welcome You Back as Honored Guests: Unembedded in Afghanistan ), as I recall in one strip an Afghan fighter is basically saying that they don't really have anything against the Russians as such, but they just can not stand to be occupied and will fight to the death against it... but they would love to have you VISIT. Something like that.

Just For Your Information. This comedy skit was taken straight out of the Talmud. (Tractate Shabbat and a similar story in Tractate Avodah Zara). Although the Talmud does indeed have an answer to the question of "What did the Romans ever do for us?". The (Great) Rabbi Yehuda, Rabbi Yossi and Rabbi Shimon were sitting and learning, and Yehuda, son of the Convert was sitting near them eavesdropping on their discussion. The story begins with an introduction: At the end of days when G-d will judge all the peoples of the world according to how they have treated the Jews, what will the (cruel) Romans have to say in their own defence? Rabbi Yehuda commenced by observing "How fine are the works of the Romans in the land. They have made streets, built bridges and erected public baths". Rabbi Yossi (looked at him) and remained silent. Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai answered though and said "All that they have made, they have made for themselves in order to continue the occupation! They built market-places to buy and sell slaves and harlets, baths to rejuvenate and spoil themselves, bridges to levy tolls and other taxes upon us". Now Yehuda, son of the Convert went and related their discussion to others and it reached the ears of the Roman government. They decreed: "Yehuda, who exalted us shall be exalted, Yossi who was silent shall be exiled from the Land Of Israel. Shimon who censured us, let him be taken out and executed. Hearing this decree, they fled and hid in a cave where the Romans did not find them. A miracle occurred and a carob tree grew and a water well sprang up for them. There they sat and learnt Torah all day for 12 years....

Interesting how the comment section is filled with both leftist and rightists identifying the other side with these characters. In reality, of course, this is not commentary on modern politics. It's almost taken straight out of a conversation in the Talmud. This is comedy from before the social media age, so it's not your brand of tribalist, partisan satire.. no matter how much you want it to be.

The Monty Python troupe were smart bastards. They were educated at Oxford and Cambridge and did a lot of research for Life of Brian. They said it was like heaven filming in North Africa and going back to a hotel with a pool, compared to the gruelling filming of Holy Grail in cold and rainy Scotland, where they would rush back to the hotel to shower before the hot water ran out. For instance, Pontius Pilate's palace was specifically designed by Terry Gilliam to look like a Roman palace built over a Jewish temple, such was the attention to detail.
