My parents received one for their wedding in 1947. I've been caring for it since 1990. I've propagated many for my family. Right now one of them is blooming. I think they are awesome plants. 5:28

I have a tree in my kitchen that I have had for about ten years, when my friend moved she threw it out for the trash I told her I will take it, I really did not want it but could not bear to see it trashed while still alive, it is very neglected, I thought it was a dumb cane but I did not see one like it on your video so maybe it is not, when it gets as tall as the ceiling I just cut it off, I have not been successful with rooting the top piece, you have inspired me to give it a little love now and then, maybe I can get it looking better, great video
@moodyblooms4 жыл бұрын
I am the same way! It is so hard to see perfectly good plants tossed out. Are you letting the cutting callus over before placing in water or soil? Maybe that will help with the success rate.

If it is more than 50% of the leaf definitely remove it. You can trim just the brown edges if you prefer. But, you need to figure out what is causing the issue first.

I replanted my dumb cane plant in all-purpose soil for indoor and outdoor. Is this ok?
@moodyblooms Жыл бұрын
If you get a standard potting soil it may pack too tightly and drown out the roots. I always add in perlite and/or coarse sand to add aeration. Like many houseplants, dieffenbachia plants need a soil that retain some water but also one that drains well. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching.

Thank you so much for this video. Over the past couple of months since purchase, a few of the leaves on mine have turned yellow and come away. It now looks sparse and a bit silly. Should I cut it all the way back and let it start over? I'll be careful not to over water and I think I need to add more to my soil as it seems to be just plain compost. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
@moodyblooms Жыл бұрын
Yellow leaves can be an over watering or an under watering issue. The plant is definitely unhappy, so you need to figure out what the cause may be. You can definitely cut off the top and propagate.
@carleanr40512 жыл бұрын

My plant is four feet tall. The top leaves are always brown and crusty. The rest of the plant is fine. Any ideas? Thank you.
@moodyblooms11 ай бұрын
Brown tips could be caused by uneven watering. Keep your watering practices a little more regular and never let your plant sit in water. Leaves that are curled with brown edges could be caused by excessive fertilizer application.

I have tried to save my dieffenbachia tropic by cutting off the yellow leaves but now the stem of that leaf is turning yellow and I’m worried it’s going to effect the main trunk. What can I do to save it?
@moodyblooms11 ай бұрын
Yellow leaves can be from a number of issues. Most of the time (not always) it is an overwatering issue.
