As an 86 owner, I would recommend removing the noise generator, it was one of the first things I did and now it sounds clean. Especially because after installing a catback exhaust, it sounded terrible having fake sound being pumped into the cabin.

It's quite expensive still because it's not very old, and 200hp in a ~1200kg car might be too much for some beginner drivers. But, as a second car or something it'd be good

I got a '15 Kia Cerato 6spd manual hatchback as my first car and 148hp felt fast for a little bit to me, now it's just high revving fun and sounds really nice with a pod filter. It's helped me learn to rev match as well :))

There's a guy on KZbin who recently converted the Toyota version of the BRZ to electric, 6 speed with a Nissan Leaf motor. Maybe Moog could make it faster and with more skids going that route.

I live in a community of car people there are a lot of people who daily thease things because they "look cool and are fun". When i ask them how fast the zero to sixty is they dont like to answer and sadly a prius will beat it. In the end they can do some nice skids because its not meant for speed. Its meant for drifting.

Yeah, right-hand drive BRZ is much easier to supercharge because of the steering rack on the right. There's not as much space around the engine as in the LHD model.

So I've owned an 18 brz for 2 years and 45,000 miles. The facelift cars solve a lot of problems, a great place to start looking for acceleration in a pre facelift car is swapping the 4.1 diff for the new 4.3. For staying NA; itbs, headers, and tune fix a lot of the acceleration problems, the real problem isn't really the amount of power but the torque dip and how it feels to your butt dyno. Filling in mid range torque really changes the dynamic of the car because you finally get linear power where before it just feels like perpetual turbo lag but with no boost payoff, which is why i think everyone seems determined to FI these cars. In reality they're fun on a track, I took mine to VIR and even though that is a power track I still had fun, granted it's hard to have a bad day on track. However the real use case for these cars are to be able to drive in a spirited manner on the streets and not really be a danger to everyone else. I drove a 335i before the brz and it was fun but i could hit 80mph in 2nd gear in less than 6 seconds from a start, plus how isolated the car felt, no backroad was really fun because I felt like I couldn't push the car plus inside of it I couldn't feel the speed at all. 80 felt like 30. For pure road application, and especially as a daily driver or only car, the brz fills every need except for mid-range torque. Even in terms of space, I moved with the brz and it fit almost everything except for furniture of course.

Had my '17 for almost 3 years now. Best car I've owned. Header and tune fixes the torque dip and sound. More exhaust changes only improve it. If you want raw acceleration, you bought the wrong car (buy a bike). An absolute delight to drive and daily.

I love this explanation because it may be what I'm missing with my current 2020 WRX and my last car, a 2006 S4. I drive some fun curvy roads but in order to really use the car to even 8/10th I'm well over the speed limit and I just can't do that. I have an MR2 Turbo I'm working on right now and I'm hoping that fills that void but otherwise I may find myself looking for one of these or even a miata.

Some really solid supercharger kits out there. only reason I didn't go BRZ+ supercharger is I could get a GT350 for roughly what I'd put into a BRZ to get it where I wanted it. Mustang got the styling, big mclargehuge tires, power, brakes, etc all pre-installed and working correctly. Moog can't run down to the corner Ford dealer for one so.....

I have there stage 1 kit on mine 287hp @ 5psi. stage 2 will see 340hp @ 8 psi with just a clutch, fuel pump, boost controller and Injectors. Subaru's position is that it is easy for the aftermarket to add power but hard for them to change fundamental things about the car (weight, rigidity, cog): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZW9lIttfcaqns0 Seems like a pretty solid position to me. I bought one in '13 and haven't looked back, as a starting base for a car it is a really solid one, particularly if you enjoy hitting the track on a reasonable budget.

tbh I call bs on this. It would of been very cheap for them to build the engine so that it could readily handle boost, but they didn't. I'll agree with the hard to change aspects, but these cars aren't that easy or cheap to make a decent amount of extra power with.

Nice one, also props for not going turbo! The TRD sound changer set will simply limit the amount of induction noise reaching the cabin by putting a physical barrier of different sizes (the "silent" is completely blocked). Now you just need to get the P-Plater BRZ starter kit, which includes the cheapest UEL headers you can find, Open Flash Tablet canned tune, Valenti Tail Lights (third hand+at least two leds burnt), Invidia N1 Catback (possibly with rust), Wish hot air intake, katana shift knob, gutter-rashed XXR or Rota wheels, Ebay window louvers and rain guards. If you are rich, you can also get a partially cracked Rocket Bunny replica front bumper. Oh, and don't forget to tell everyone you're about to go turbocharged when you get your tax return! Cheers

An an 86 owner that has done it all short of a Built block, i purchased my FR-S and did everything you could possibly do on a budget to make it "Fast" Intake, Exhaust, Tune, Tires, E85. I always felt like at the end of the day it needed more power, not a ton more but just enough. Fast forward to just last year when I attached a turbo kit to it, which utilized an Equal Length header configuration and a 3in exhuast setuppaired with a Percicion 5431e turbo. I was able to push it at 10psi which netted me about 270+WHP on the stock block! 300-350HP seems to be the perfect place where this platform truly shines and can be a proper handling machine with a good amount of power. You get that drama from the spool, the beautiful sounds of induction and good amount of torque to keep those wheels spinning not only in 1st but in 2nd and 3rd gear as well. Moog I hear you on keeping to the purity of the 86 platform with it being NA but i can attest that on these machines once you introduce boost... you will change your mind completly on the platform :)

There is a take off from the airbox that runs into the foot well. The TRD plastic things basically change the note of the sound in the cabin that makes more noise from 7000 rpm. My Mum bought one and chopped it in 8 weeks later.

I've had mine for 3 years.... Yes it's slow, and underwhelming. And with full bolt-on's. It's where it should have been. But the thing has lots of character, handles great, does skid. As you replace parts, upgrade them. And most any engine fits under the hood for $ expect 3-6k drinking depending on needs

I used to own one (2014 FT86) as my first car and indeed, it is easily lose its traction even with traction control "ON". Try on second gear after a hump and dump the pedal halfway during rain. You will notice the wheels spin off losing traction (and I was using factory supplied Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres). Also, I drove it on a windy road and the car already feels fun to drive on stock. Sadly had to trade it off with 2012 WRX sedan as a family sports car. I wish I could turn the time back and enjoy it as long as I can. Glad that you guys shown the excitement on this car and tried skids. Mad skids. :)

One of my friends and her husband have one, stock, and my wife and I drove it, 3 years ago, when we flew down from Pennsylvania, US, to visit them for a week in Sydney. Best way to describe it, is pretty much how Moog describes it. Nice ride, doesn't do anything in a spectacular manner, but a better than average run about.

Yes I have wanted more 86 love as an avid viewer! As an owner of a 2016 BRZ, you will love it Moog. Mine goes sideways at a local track, and rarely gets driven on the road. Also, I purchased mine new with 3 miles on the odometer, and immediately voided my warranties by modifying it and tracking it. Brakes, coilovers, injectors, fuel pump, full exhaust w/headers, intake, wheels, tires, and new tune to give it a little more oomph out of the NA engine. It will never win any drag races, but that isn't what the car is designed for. Can't wait to see what you guys do with this. Keep up the great videos guys!

The sound changer goes on a tube, which comes off the intake into the cabin. It basically has 3 different ones with three different levels of dampening. The red one is the loudest of course
