In fact, the Groke was most terrifying to many Finnish children. Not any other character so much that it would be worth mentioning. Moomins were based as heck, and didn't really shy off of talking about real matters that kids would face and talk about every day anyway. This is something I really appreciate about this show. The 80's and 90's were a different time to be alive. Kids were considered more capable to handle stuff.

Fun fact: when the episode where the Groke first appears was first showed in Finland, the colors were a lot darker than in the original Japanese version, possibly because the film was damaged. This made the scene even scarier than it was intended to be. No wonder a lot of Finns remember the Groke as the scariest part of the show. Though I've also heard that some people were more scared of the Antlion or the Lady of the Cold. Personally, I was terrified of the scene where Moomin hides inside the Hobgoblin's Hat and is transformed into a monster. There was a lot of scary stuff in that show.

I used to have horrible nightmares about running away from the groke, the dreams would always end when it caught and froze me to death. I'm now 30 and the Groke still invades my dreams at times, terrifying the living shit out of me, but I still really love Moomins.

What? This is normal here in Finland. I was six or seven when my hunter man father told me how to use a gun. He teached me how to clean and build it and use it safely.😊 It’s better to teach and show safety than be sorry later.

we benefit because there are so few hunters and gun families. in some parts of u.s. the exact argument for open gun laws is that they can teach every 3 year old to use a gun responsibly. its bound to happen some % of them will use the gun for something bad later.

They become far less interesting and exotic when they're just a tool you know your way around. The other end the 16 to 25 years old that make up the bulk of our violent crime on the other hand typically come from poverty and hopeless conditions, aren't taught to handle weapons, and have little reason to follow the morals that society operates on. They get preyed on by criminals who don't want to get caught doing dirty and dangerous work with promises of riches and bitches.

Not so much that sand trap ant-lion thingy, but the Groke. Legend says, Finnish TV thought it was too scary, so they made the scene darker so the kids could not see the Groke as much. Well, making the scene darker forced the kids to concentrate and get even closer to TV screens, making the sight of the terrifying Groke even more memorable. I still remember being alone at home and seeing that scene…😨👍🏻😃

Her relationship with her female partner had been public knowledge for a considerably long time by then. I have also read her biography. She was madly in love with her male partner, but the relationship didn't go anywhere for he was, apparently, ace. This man became her inspiration for the Moomin character Snufkin. She herself identified as Moomintroll, and Moomintroll's obsession about Snufkin is a symbol of her love towards this man.
