In only one episode we have: • Love letters • Climbing a mountain for the first time, during a snow storm, knowing all the dangers that this action may result in, just to stay a little longer with your crush • A fricking wood sculpture made to show affection to your crush, as your crush is watching • A N G S T • Almost a love confession, that was being made during a situation of danger that could possibly resulting with death • Peace is made and yet another separation, caused by the fear of not being wanted from your crush, resulting in giving your crush the space they asked (so A LIFE LESSON) • Crush calls you back on the mountains because they miss you and you watch the FRICKING NORTHEN LIGHTS together while occasionally looking to each other. I seriously can't believe such intense episode exists in the Moominvalley series, it feels like a fever dream, yet here we are.

Platonic relationships can have sexual attraction mixed in, and romantic relationships can have no sexual attraction with it. Several people can speak from experience. And yes, I can praise my friend highly, but in different words and with some jokes and sarcasm. Because unlike what you think of me, I don’t take platonic relationships for granted in favor of romance. In fact, I value friendship over romance because of how overused and cliche romance has become in media. Friendship is a different type of love, but of course, it is NOT a LESSER one. And by the way, the people who work on Moominvalley have confirmed that Moomin and Snufkin can be interpreted as something other than friends, and the writer Tove Jansson was queer herself and had a female lifetime partner who she based Too-ticky off of (Too-ticky is a character that fans seem to compare a lot to Snufkin, and Snufkin’s design was based on one of Jansson’s past partners, and Moomin was based on Jansson herself), and Moomin in almost every adaptation of Moominvalley has been portrayed more similarly to a cliche damsel in distress yearning for her lover whenever he leaves instead of a child who misses his favorite classmate (“Going to see your PRECIOUS Snufkin? oH, i miSs hiM sO mUcH. You’re wetter than a fish’s flannel.” - Little My) and Moomin is more fond of Snufkin despite being Snorkmaiden’s boyfriend (he called her Snufkin by accident once, like the common trope of an unfaithful lover), and Moomin daydreams about Snufkin when he’s waiting for him (Little My throws an object at him in annoyance while he says “as the sun sets over Moominvalley, Snufkin and I will-“ SNUFKIN AND YOU WILL WHAT?), and Moomin decided to avoid his family’s traditional hibernation in favor of seeing Snufkin early, and there are rumors that Jansson originally wanted to make Snufkin and Moomin queer too but was discouraged by the stigma against queer people (I will research more about this, it hasn’t been confirmed yet), and that Moomin and Snufkin allegedly kissed in some type of play (again, not set in stone), and more. If even a certified romance hater could tolerate all of this, then maybe there’s something more going on that you can’t water down to “made up by delusional and romance-obsessed lunatics”. If you do these things to your friend, I have some news for you lmfao

Doesn’t mean it’s the same as sexual attraction. The author having a female lover or whatever intentions there may be does not negate the fact that there is no sexual attraction. The two don’t feel shy over each other’s appearance, they don’t see each other as a mate. Moomin not seeing moominmaiden as a mate doesn’t mean he sees snufkin as a mate. They’re friends who are very passionate about each other. Your life must be so sad if the only person you can be passionate about is a romantic partner. Problem… I’m watching Adventures of Moominvalley… but Im impatient and i want to watch this one NOOOW! Would it give me too many spoilers to also watch this one at the same time??

The two are completely separate adaptations. Some of the stories adapted are from the books so of course there are episodes that are similar but watching moominvalley won’t ruin your experience of the 90s cartoon at all! The characterizations and worlds are actually vastly different especially with what is and isn’t affordable and possible for the 3D animated one. You can definitely enjoy both shows at once without ruining one or the other. :)
