I was confused about the logs for a second too, but they were rolling down from the truck that tipped over at the top of the hill, since the road just went back and forth along the mountainside.

Enjoyed the episode. Watched it knowing nothing of the character, haven't seen any teasers and trailers. It's pretty rare to see a main character having Dissociative Identity Disorder. Don't know if it's truly the case, but I was happy to see the "if you want to learn more about mental health issues..." card in the credits, right at the end.

Yes, that was nice to see :)

You are correct! In the comics it’s confirmed that Marc has Dissociative Identity Disorder. He’s also got like 4 identities in the comics depending on the run but Steven Grant is the one that traditionally manifested earliest (sometime in Marc’s childhood)

As a long-time fan of Moon Knight (since the 70s), I'm still amazed to see that this character has been brought to life on the screen. Young comic book fans today have no idea whatsoever what it was like growing up in the 70s/80s, wishing that someone--anyone--would make a high-quality "superhero" show. Back then, you had the corny Spiderman and Captain America movies, the Hulk tv show, and those cheesy Hulk movies--but that was about it, apart from decidedly "cringey" things, like The Greatest American Hero or Condorman (on that episode of Fantasy Island). Later, there were shows like Manimal, Sable, Knight Rider, etc., but no one could do a real superhero show any kind of justice. Young comic book fans today just have no idea how good they have it. This show is pretty good, in its production quality and choice of actors. Oscar Isaac does a great job. As a Moon Knight fan, though, I'm still not 100% sold on it. The "warping" of Steven Grant into to some kind of sycophantic "yes man" with a British accent (instead of the Bruce Wayne archetype) is an ... odd choice, but I can see how it would work for an audience not familiar with the character. Not sure why the voice of Khonshu is a surly old man, instead of the commanding voice of an Egyptian god; that's a little "off", to me. I guess I expected more Settra the Imperishable (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q16Ylp2fhKd8Z9E) and less Generic Old Dude. The costume looks badass, though. I just hope they play up the "mercenary" role a bit more, and don't just rely on the supernatural stuff; that would be very easy to overdo. I haven't seen and truncheons, staves, etc. in the previews, so it seems this version of Moon Knight might be less Batman/Daredevil, and more more Ghost Rider ... which may not be a bad thing. We'll just have to wait and see.

i love this show, love the way its shot and i love that when Steven does have blackouts (Mark takes over) that you can actually deduce what happened, for example the fish, when Steven lost two days his fish died because he wasn't there to feed it, so Mark went to the store and tried to buy another fish with only one fin, only to be told 'like i said yesterday, they've all got..'. Mark totally tried to buy another one finned fish so Steven wouldn't notice his has died xD

There's some interesting background about Ammit, the goddess Arthur is an avatar for. In the comics, she's just kind of a minor guardian of the afterlife, but in Egyptian mythology, her role is more well-defined. She's an underling of Anubis; after Anubis weighs a person's heart against a feather from the goddess of truth, if they are worthy, they continue to the afterlife, but if they are unworthy, their heart is fed to Ammit. It seems like the show is going with the idea that she got tired of waiting for Anubis to throw her scraps of the dead, so she's taken over the job of judging people while they're still alive so she can eat more. It's an interesting concept, and I wonder if we're going to get to see how Anubis reacts to having his job stolen by an inferior goddess. By the way, the writing on the buildings/van was German, and I believe what Arthur said to make them bow was ancient Egyptian.

So far they seem like they have a good grip on the disorder his character is supposed to have. When he "switches" with Mark, he loses time, and doesn't remember anything that happens. We the audience so far have only seen what Steven sees, which helps to really empathize how discombobulated he normally is when he starts fronting again. We don't know what Mark is getting up to either, so we're just as confused as Steven is. The restaurant scene I think also did an incredible job of showing one of the many repercussions of having a disorder like that. When you lose time and yourself, you lose dates, items, tasks, etc. As a couple friends who are diagnosed have described, when you eventually switch back to yourself (the host, in this case), it is quite often that you have no concept of what happened while you were riding backseat, or how long you were out. Scary stuff, and they seem to be handling it delicately and with an appropriate amount of sympathy and care.

I totally understand that you got to react to it alone, work comes first in Life... but send Kat greetings. 😉 Oscar Isaac is showing what a great Actor he really is in this Show... awesome performance. Oh... and the Goldfish thingy... at first we got to see it in the Tank, the Goldfish just got one Finn, like NEMO in Finding NEMO the animated Movie - and because he missed to give him food, he died and Mark bought a new one, with normal two Finns 😅 Looking forward for the next Episodes and your Reactions... greetings from Germany! 👋

Yeah he thinks he’s only a sleepwalker and a lot of sleepwalkers don’t function correctly while on the move. If he was truly one of those types of sleepwalkers, he’d probably just ineffectually try to get out of bed in a daze. Comedian Mike Birbiglia tells some amazing stories of weird things he’s done while sleepwalking; blathering convos with people and falling out of windows. But Steven doesn’t realize that he’s actually got dissociative identity disorder and Marc is fully functional when he takes over and can easily take off the restraints, avoid the sand and put the tape back on the door.

People have complained about not seeing Marc beat the people up, but I think the show is better that way. Yeah, they could show us Marc punching a guy or whatever. But part of what makes something scary is the unknown. And doing things while being unaware is what someone with DID would go through.
