Wonderful video between Nick and his beautiful Coco. The song set the mood just right, happy but sad at the same time.

That song does work so well for this video. I'm glad Linda traded horses with Peter. Peter and Coco had a great chemistry.

I always thought this Coco was a liver chestnut Morgan horse from working western lines. The one they used in Hunter's Moon was a color called silver chocolate and looked to be to be of Rocky Mountain horse extraction, which contain Morgan breeding.

This Coco was his own personal horse, unfortunately he passed away while Peter was riding him, I loved this horse so much that I searched high and wide to find one as close in looks as I could. My Koko is a chocolate and flaxen Kentucky Mountain saddle horse, with the crooked blaze like Nicks. The Coco in part Two was a different horse, used to say farewell to the original Coco. You can tell the second Coco has a whiter mane and tail. Both are awesome horses !

+Greg Cameron, Coco was an awesome horse and Peter Breck was very close to him. Peter's wife Diane did confirm to me however that it was a rumor that circulated about Coco passing while Peter was riding him. The video I did before this one is called Nick and Coco, "Only Time" and the substitute for Coco is used in this from the episode Hunter's Moon at which point the original Coco was officially retired. Your Koko sounds awesome!

+Greg Cameron Since Diane Breck, Peter's wife told me this I am sure it is so. For some reason this story grew out of nowhere and even I thought it was true until Diane told me it wasn't. Coco retired at the beginning of Season 4 and that is why they wrote in the episode called Hunter's Moon to honor Coco's retirement. And Peter Breck was very close to this horse. He even asked Linda Evans, who had been assigned Coco early into the first season if she would trade horses with him. She agreed on the spot.

+In the Nick of Time i knew that linda had him first, and i also knew he was very close to Coco, you could just tell by how he treated him in different scenes, making a fussier his forelock and just paying attention that wasn't written into the scenes, and i knew he bought him in the first season. Coco was also in some movies before Pete bought him, he was in the HORSE SOLDIERS w John Wayne, one of the officers rode him, and he was ridden by Marietta Hartley in RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY with Randolph Scott and Joel Mc Crea, i just loved both Nick and Coco as a kid and Peter was a huge influence on my life. He always had a big heart and i loved how loud and stubborn he was but he always did the right thing. i also knew that they wrote Hunters Moon because Coco had either retired or died but wasn't sure which had happened. i had been in touch with Peter through his movie producer friend and sent him pics of my Koko, he replied that she was beautiful, and i happen to agree with him. i searched long and far to find the closest match to Coco that i could. I've had her for twenty years now and she is still full of spirit and energy that would make most horses worn out. She's a real pistol. you can check her out at the link i gave you previously. you've done a great job with the Nick of Time videos. i really appreciate it. I've had a lot of enjoyment from checking them out. They were both a huge influence on my life and i still love The Big Valley. sliding stop.smugmug.com

The way I heard that Peters Coco died while he was riding was from a column he did in Wildest Westerns, so it seemed like a direct quote from Peter, if you want to see my Koko you can go to slidingstop.smugmug.com. Just look at the Dreamwind Mariah section

The story I heard is that Breck loved Coco so much that he bought him towards the end of the show when the owners were going to sell the old horse to a rental stable (a terrible life); Coco died a few years later on Breck's place. Watching Nick ride Coco still makes me cringe as he was heavy-handed, pulling on the reins too hard. You'd think somebody on the set would have taught him to ride better as Coco's mouth was yanked open with every stop and/or turn, but this was often done in Westerns as it looked more "manly" though is painful for the horse. Compare how Heath and Jared rode Charger and Jingo--very good hands!
