Moon Sport Cerberus Bike Taillight Review - feat. 150 Lumen + 3 COB LED Design + Round/Aero Posts

Named after the three-headed dog from Greek mythology, the Moon Sport Cerberus is a unique three COB LED bike taillight design. The multi-element Cerberus taillight retails for $46.99 and in this latest iteration has a 150 maximum lumen output. Power comes from an integrated 500mAh Li-Po battery that can be recharged in 2 hours with a modern USB Type-C charging port. There are also five different output modes to choose from, two steady modes and three flash options to cover daytime or nighttime riding. As with other Moon Sport products, the Cerberus output modes can also be fully customized with a Variable Lumen System (VLS) which allows the output of each mode to be adjusted independently. The other clever design feature of the Cerberus is the hinged mounting posts that allow the taillight to be mounted on round or aero seatposts without changing out any parts.
The Cerberus uses an industry standard rubber o-ring style mount that offers a quick and tool-free mounting or removal from the bike. With the taillight weighing only 36 grams, the rubber o-ring is more than enough to hold it securely in place. What’s clever about the Cerberus is the hinged plastic mounts on the base of the taillight instead of being molded directly on. This allows the Cerberus to be mounted on round as well as aero seatposts without any modifications or additional parts. The hinges also lie nearly flat which means the taillight can even be mounted on a flat rack or other locations as long as you can wrap the o-ring around. Moon Sport also includes two different sized o-rings to accommodate different diameter seatposts right out of the box.

With a three COB LED design, the Moon Sport Cerberus has a unique design that stands out on the bike. A center COB LED strip runs down the center of the taillight to provide rear visibility while two side COB LED stripes allow for improved side visibility. When illuminated, the COB LED strips provide a uniform glow that looks modern. The two side COB strips also have a Nike-like swoosh that follows the contour of the taillight. With its rectangular profile, the Cerberus sits flush and hides behind seatposts for an integrated appearance. Branding on the light is limited to a Moon Sport logo on one side and “Cerberus“ in a white modern font on the other side.

It has USB cable but only the Cerberus plug fits the light. I have a ton of cables in my desk drawer for things like Wahoo Roam and they all use the same plug type. So don’t lose the charging cable. 😅

I haven't had issues with the USB-C port- the Cerberus uses a generic cable design. Your issue might be that the port is a bit deeper than other lights so some cables may not fit completely inside it. I'm charging it right now with a cable from another product with a longer plug design without issues.

Thank you for covering the Type-C aspect of it. Does it charge with a Macbook USB-C charger? That is, does is support C2C cables or C2A only?

Great question. Forgot to show it on video, but USB C2C does not appear to work (the charging indicator does not turn on). Hopefully future variations add that capability.

2 Cerberus in less than 3 years, really great design and also really nice light until... decided to not charge. Shop replaced on the warranty and now the second light is the same. Complain why MOON, but any answer back. Probably I will choose other brand. Thanks

Sorry to hear that. We're still riding with the taillight (did a ~6.5 hour ride yesterday) and haven't had any issues. Charging ports are generally a weak point for taillights as they experience a lot of wear and tear. If you're looking for something else the Magicshine Seemee 180 or NiteRider Bullet 200 are also great options.

I would say that the Seemee 200 has better daytime visibility as the main LED is more focused. That helps the light be seen from further distances. If you're more focused on daytime visibility, you should also consider the Light & Motion Vya Switch as well as it is visible from very long distances.

I can't understand why this isn't a wedge shape in the opposite direction. It's deeper at the top which tilts it down on a post. Considering the post it already tilted in that same direction, having it deeper at the bottom would level the surface of the light perpendicular with level ground.. For a nice light like this, it seems like a strange design decision.

That's a good point, building an offset into the taillight housing would have improved the appearances and optics. With the taillight being all COB LEDs and not focused LEDs (like the Bontrager Flare RT) the angle is less important.
