The whole thing with Rachel Zegler is she is complaining about "suffering", but all her gripes are non-issues. Like, she said her worst audition was people ordering food while she is singing. Like, lady, these people have had to listen and watch and judge however many people there for auditioning and haven't even had a break or time to eat. I think at this point Disney should rename the movie The Evil Queen and Snow White. It takes a look through The Evil Queen's POV. The Queen doesn't look at what she does as Evil. So I was the commenter who left the lengthy comment about the costume 😅. I have a masters degree in fashion and I was pissed at the costumes because I've done assignments analysing disney princess's costumes since they were so iconic. They defined the personal style choice of millions of kids and adults around the world even though they were animated movies. So i was pretty disappointed by how lackluster the costumes were in the remake versions because the costumes also enhance the whole fairytale movie experience and makes the viewers more immersed in the story. That's why costume design departments work hard to make it more realistic. They just missed the whole point and I was just disappointed 😅

It’s important for us to appreciate the extent of this failure, to know how many people had to miss the mark and how many chances they had to save this movie. Take Zegler out of the equation completely (think they already did) and you still have a flaming pile of dog crap - why? Because it’s DISNEY. How many decent movies have Disney released lately, how many good stories have they told lately? They literally ruin everything they touch, even if they get lucky now and then as the broken clock of the once-great movie industry. The industry itself is in trouble, and it’s not just because of Disney’s poor decisions. Zegler is just a byproduct of that.

Actually when Snow White was written, fair meant fair skin. It was considered beautiful because rich women didn't spend much time outdoors so they were rich and didn't have a tan. Women who had brown of dusky skin weren't considered beautiful no matter how beautiful they actually were.

Actually, when Snow White was written, it was written in German, so the word „fair“ wasn‘t used in any sense at all. The mirrow in the original asks „who is the most beautiful in this whole country?“. („Wer ist die Schönste im ganzen Land?“)

I am no expert, but I would not be surprised, if in those times the only meaning was beautifull. I have a feeling that the onther meaning is more recent, like for example how „cool“ was always the opposite of hot but today can be used as meaning something like great, too.

When "Titanic" was released in 1997, it cost 200 million to make and was the MOST expensive movie to be made then. But it made over 2b in box office receipts. Snow White's budget is already over 200m now but look at what was produced so far. My expectations are not high because Disney has lost it's magic for a while now.

From the fairy tale, and English of the time, "fair" does not mean "equitable, impartial, equal, objective, unbiased, etc." as it does now. It meant "pretty, lighter skinned, good-looking, peaceful". None of which describe Rachel Zegler.

It's also just weird to see that woman be called Snow White. Snow White was named after the colour of her fair skin. Could have been for possible marriage partners to be tipped off they'll have a looker. Because political marriages where important but so where the beauty standards and social ranking. Even before the reshoots it looked cheap. Even with just the leak, Snow white's dress NEVER changed. And the outfit of seven Magical creatures just look like a mess. if it were up to true show biz carnies like the WWE who understands entertainment and human psychology, they would do a heel turn, since people starts to root against snow white, just make her the villain and build up the Evil Queen as a "cool heel" who is misunderstood. That just might save this classic franchise. Since they could just keep reshooting, the best they could hope for is the body switch comedy, otherwise, it's unsalvageable.

I’m with you on most things, but at 6:00 when Rachel is asked what her worst auditioning experience is, and she responds with what she considers HER worst auditioning experience, I don’t understand how you can judge that by saying “welp, I don’t think that was bad and i know people have it worse” like??? She never said people don’t experience worse, she gave HER WORST EXPERIENCE. If you’re not a fan of her that’s fine, but acting like every move she makes or every sentence that’s ever come out of her mouth is problematic seems like bullying. And it’s just not necessary.

Nahh so it’s not that no one’s more pure than the evil queen before Snow, it’s “fair” in all aspects of the meaning. So basically the Queen is very fair, but only so much past the surface. Snow White, now “of age” is not only the fairest on the outside, but has a whole league above the Queen by being fair on the inside.

After looking at all the changes and everything this production has undergone, I think they should've gone with Neil Gaiman's version of Snow White. Everything would've worked out. Gal Gadot would've been the fair and kind queen. Zegler would've been the vicious bloodsucker. The seven diversity hires would've been the wild folk who fell victim to her. And the prince would've been a weirdo. Why didn't they think of that?
