Just some long rambling thoughts after a year of having a 2019 Moonboard at home, before resetting it to the 2016 setup.

Hi Alan, fantastic recap. I also built my own moonboard at the beginning of the pandemic but the 2016 instead of the 2019 version and got consistent with V8. Life has been busy again once everything opened back up so I'm not quite at the level currently. With another kid coming in 2 months, I'm debating if it would be worthwhile switching to a 2019 layout. Like you, I've completed most of the benchmarks at my level and felt some boredom setting in. You mentioned in your video that you might switch to the 2016. Have you done so yet? If so, would you mind sharing your thoughts on the differences between the two layouts? Thanks!

I kept the 19 setup for a year, switched to 2016 for a year, and now back to the 2019 for the last 8 months. I would say for me it is worth it to have both setups since I get bored easily. The 2019 feels like it trains a different kind of strength and movement, since gripping the slippery woods becomes the biggest challenge instead of pure power. So I feel like I'm working my grip strength much more than I was on the 16.

this is a really quality video. Do you find having a wall to the side of your board being a problem worth avoiding? Also would you recommend committing to multiple hold sets of your board just to have the variety? It's been 3 years since I've really had access to a moonboard, but my experience was very similar to yours as you've described it.

The wall and supports are problematic less than 5% of the time, but when they are, it's pretty annoying. If I had the space having at least a foot of room would make a huge difference. I've enjoyed being able to change it up with different hold sets.

I'll be keeping them in storage until next summer when I'll most likely switch back to the 2019 Setup.

First MoonBoard V7 after only a couple of months? What gym grades were you climbing at when you first built it? I built a MoonBoard about 5 months ago and am only just getting close to ticking my first V6.
@AlanHauser Жыл бұрын
I was climbing around v8-9 in the gym and outside at the time.

@@AlanHauser that makes sense. I was around V6 in the gym. I just ticked your Over Easy benchmark last night actually. That last move threw me off several times in prior sessions 🤣

@@dmacleod89 nice! One of my strengths is close right hand lockoffs so I think i set it with that in mind. I appreciate the moonboard for forcing me to try other people's problems outside my comfort zone.

Cool video! How often did you train on the Moonboard / for how long per session, and did you sustain any injuries from climbing on it?
@AlanHauser3 жыл бұрын
I first started with 3 times a week, about an hour and a half per session, but I moved down to 2 sessions a week, still an hour and a half- I felt like it was better power training that way, going more for max effort. Each session would have between 10 to 20 attempts. No injuries. Always made sure to warm up well before hitting the board.
