Liked your video. When you installed the reverse band linkage, I backed the video up three times. Thought it was an optical illusion. I bet you won't be the last one to do that. I am about to rebuild a 46re for my pickup. I have the old transmission that was in the truck when I got it, 8 years ago. It was completely dead. No forward or reverse. I tore it down last week for inspection and was surprised to find most of it is in excellent shape. Looks like it lost hydraulic pressure to the clutches. They were completely burned up. Looked as if they were on fire. A few days after tearing it down I decided to reassemble it so no parts would be lost and spent 20 minutes fighting with it due to flipping a planetary hub upside down. I finally figured it out. Felt like a dumb a##. Not the first time and I bet it won't be the last.

I couldn't believe I did that...especially since I JUST talked about the orientation...Murphy strikes again! I almost did the same thing with the planetary when I rebuilt the A904...I really hate transmissions 🤣

How do you know when you lose hydraulic pressure
@rayowens435511 ай бұрын
@Bseries_Vans i am no expert. In my case, the clutches were severely burt up and there was a small scratch where the seal rides on the inside of one of the drums. I believe there is a way to measure the pressure by hooking a gage up to the trans. I would have to revisit the manual to verify.

I bought two transmissions one 46rh without lockup and I got one with lockup for my 95 ram cr-61 is the torque converter you need for the non lockup you can get one build and shipped under 200$ from Chicago transmissions
@MoonBuiltGarage Жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't remember what I paid for my torque converter...I just know I had a hell of a time finding one for a non-lockup 46rh. Most of what I was finding were for lock-up units

Just got mine built and shipped from total transmission Chicago came out to 150$ with no core 125$ for cr61 non lockup 25$ for the shipping I’m so happy with how my transmission came out I watched youre video like 6 times there’s very little resources on this transmission I put a jr shift kit in mine and love it shifts great with new setup.

For this video I think I was finishing an overhaul/inspection. New clutches/steels and seals....or this was the front pump seal....don't remember, I did a few videos around the 46rh transmission

I actually use this one amzn.to/3MQ6HD9 It is for the A727, which internally is exactly the same, only this one doesn't have anything regarding the overdrive section

I was hoping nobody caught that lol....I actually caught it after I had it seated....I had to pull it back apart to put the o-ring in 🤬

I'm kind of curious as to why you didn't use assembly goo to rebuild. Its lubricates but is tacky and holds things in place. It also completely disintegrates when it's touched by transmission or oil fluid. Transmission fluid is very liquid so it will not stay where you put it and could result in dry running the transmission especially if you assembly it then let it sit for some time. Just something i was curious about. I've rebuilt several transmissions. I soak my clutches plates and all the washers and bearings for longer than 24 hours once i get all the parts. I did do a video on KZbin for the first one I did. It was a jeep. The dealer told me the transmission needed rebuilt. I had them take it out. I went and got it then put the transmission on my kitchen table and rebuilt it there. I have always used assembly goo so i have never heard of it being done without it. I think you did a great video other than not mentioning what size the lock nut is for the bands which it looked like the wrench was a 3/4 in the video.
@MoonBuiltGarage Жыл бұрын
Honestly, the only reason I didn't use assembly goo is...I didn't have any. IT makes life a bit easier since it is tacky, but it's not required
@poemranger Жыл бұрын
@@MoonBuiltGarage I can understand that not having any. Assembly goo is good for lots of stuff so I use it quite a bit in other projects and things. I didn’t look to see if u got it in ur truck or how it drove. I was just curious. I thought maybe because of the transmission jig so the transmission is verticals things have less chance of sliding because of the weight of the next item to go on top.
@MoonBuiltGarage Жыл бұрын
The trans is running great. That jig made assembly soooo much easier, not fighting the weight of the internals as much
@poemranger Жыл бұрын
@@MoonBuiltGarage that’s why I thought u skipped the assembly goo the only reason is to hold the lil parts in place. The a518 were working on us in my brothers truck. I’m not totally taking it apart. I’m going to change a couple pieces in the valve body and adjust the bands while it’s still in the truck. I did order some crows feet just after watching ur video to adjust the bands. It’s a great video and I’m so happy ur truck is driving good. Nothing better than a successful repair!
@WyattZirb2 жыл бұрын
What do you use to keep your transmission vertical like that? I’m getting ready to rebuild my A518 in my 1990 Ramcharger and haven’t done any transmission work yet. (Your video confirmed my theory of working on it myself!) I’m trying to get together a list of tools I need

Not going to move long without that overdrive piston seal , lol. How is the transmission holding up ? I know there are a lot of specs to get the clearances proper , working on building a decent one now and the service manual is crazy in depth .

Man i gota dumb question but i gota ask. Im putting together the tf3 kit (full manual valve body) but my question is what makes a reverse manual valve body? Is it the gate on the shifter? Or is completely diff valve body? Is there kits to make what i have a reverse? Just a little confused here. Thanks in advance brother
