Just a quick note of caution. For those DIYers doing this job, if you elect to change the fuel hoses, submersible fuel hoses are not the same spec as conventional ones. Please ensure you are using the right type! Have a great weekend Del.

I worked on gasoline and jet fuel tanker trucks back in the day. I saw pictures of what can go really wrong really quick in that line of work. Props to you Del on stressing safety on what seems like a simple routine job. Working safely keeps it a simple and routine job. Really impressed with the filter set up on the Triumph. Great tutorial as always Del. Many thanks to you and Miss Penny. God bless and be well always. ❤👍👍

Can I stress "Drain all the fuel first" everyone. Tried thinking I could with some gas inside. Spilled a good bit and ended up draining it all over me. Also I found lots of grit inside the tank and cleaned it with carb cleaner after. Replaced the fuel filter quite easily and the metal screen. Dolby's garage is entertaining and a great learning experience at the same time. Happy to like all his videos.

While I was checking cam shims at 12000 miles, wont be so close to fuel filter for awhile, change it I did, am a big believer of fitting any genuine filter on my Triumph 865 bonnie, cost dosnt come into it, all went well, am glad I did the filter as the rubber seal was cracking in more than one place, it would have leaked I had no doubt there. A month went past, old fuel filter still laid on my work bench got better of me, did it need changing after all??? Cutting it apart, I am glad I changed it, the filter wasnt full of mig, but it was a very dark brown in colour......I changed it again at 20000 as I had petrol tank off, it was spotless when I cut it open, no sign of brown mig What so ever.

OT but… do the fuel pumps ‘buzz’ at all on the Bonneville range? I’m not sure if my abs pump or fuel pump is creating this noise? 🤔 Another fine video, thanks (it could prove handy for me)! 👍🏻

It is interesting how easy it looks on the video :) I have some mechanical skills, been working a bit on cars and their engines and boat engines buy I always find any 'small and easy' job on a bike being a fiddly one. No, not difficult but awkward and delicate as well. But still, I like doing those on my bike every time :) Thank you for another quality 'How to' guide.

I was amazed at how much grit was inside that filter area. Do you think that`s just come from debris every time you open the tank cap allowing in FOD, or is the FOD in the fuel itself?.

Hi! Love your videos, i have done my chain and sprockets, bleeding brakes... And more things thanks to you! The best on KZbin! I have a question, my kawasaki versys after a ride starts making some noise from the tank, It releases pressure from the petrol gasses generate, It whistles strong for a good 4 seconds, It can do It several times. As soon as i open the tank It sucks or releases Air/gas. I have checked two hoses on the left of the tank that lead to the ground and they aren't obstructed at all. I cant see where is the problem!

It's good that you reminded us all about draining the tank and being careful, as you can never be too careful around gasoline. Even someone as knowledgeable as Jay Leno can have bad things happen with that stuff. We got lucky that a fellow gas monkey is still with us. Thank goodness that Jay wasn't hurt even more than he was, and let's hope for a speedy recovery.

In days of old, when four-star sold & two quid filled the tank, it was just that, an empty vessel, from which your milage drank; no inner filters, no pumps on board, just a hole up near it's bum, into which a brass thing screwed, & was called a 'tap' by some. This rattling mess, meant to address, fuel leakage from above, was always loose & dribbled juice, upon your probing glove. 'Got enough petrol? . . . 'Smells like it - onward!' . . . Ah, progress eh? - where motoring now smells of fabric softener, Lynx, or that 'flowery' Pledge you found in the kitchen. Have a great w/e : )xx

Can you hand tighten back up or do you recommend to buy a torque wrench to get it to 10nm
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 Жыл бұрын
It's not the amount of torque that is critical here.. yes, anyone can tighten to 10Nnm.. but can you be sure to get them all exactly the same...for instance, if some are only 9, and others are maybe 12.. then that imbalance will mildly distort the plate, and under pressure it will leak fuel... it's critical that they must all be exactly the same !

Makes me wanna buy a Scrambler, Kawasaki has a filter built into the pump housing that can not be replaced, it gets dirty at 3,000 miles and the bikes starts sputtering at low rpm, the pump cost $600 USD. SO you must invent ways to clean the high pressure built in filter.😢 I use an oscillating tool as an ultrasonic cleaner, 20,000 OPM cleans the filter very well every 3,000 miles or else😢😢😢😢😢.
