There was also a case where two guys had tuned their moped by constructing a cardboard tank around it. While the police were amused, they also noted how dangerous that could be in traffic. Sadly, "the tank" had to go. As for me, I remember going to "pesäpalloharkat" (Finnish baseball training/exercise) where the police was observing the road. I got past them with no issues (my moped went like 52km/h when ridden downhill by a fat man) but at least three of my teammates had to walk home that night. One of them even boasted driving around 80-100km/h to their radar (with the speed limit being 40-50km in populated areas, mind you.) He might have gotten some respect from the other players, but his parents might have had a different kind of conversation with him.

Here is an easy solution to the question of should the speedlimit be increased. Yes. But if enough people complain about the Jonnet, then the Finnish military will have its artillery exercises in the town where most complaints were filed. Mopojonnet are the target. 1.) Finnish artillery will get training on hitting fast moving targets. 2.) Jonnet can feel the excitement they need as a 155mm shell explodes next to them. 3.) World gets rid of few Jonnes. Win-win-win.

I never had a moped, but my dad had one of the '78 Honda mopeds when he was 15. It was brand new at the time he got it. After 3 months, he had left it in the hot finnish summer weather while the engine was on. He went inside his parents summer cottage to get a Jaffa. 5 minutes later, he smelled burning plastic and gas, went outside and the moped was engulfed. Apparently, he was temporarely using a plastic gas tank while the original one was being fixed by his neighbor, who was a welder. The hot summer sun had melted the plastic canister, and the plastic dripped inside the tank, starting a flame. My grandpa (his father) thought it was the funniest strikes of karma ever, but my grandma was apparently fuming. The moped cost my dad around 1700 euros, coverted from marks.

People used to change out the cylinder for a 74cc and other components, the thing could reach 120kph with that setup, it was STUPID fast, dangerous and absurd. That was back in the 90s, with modern components I have seen people make that bike manage to get 160 kph If you ever seen one on the street with a metal pipe on the middle soldered to the chassis, the thing probably does the 0 to 100 faster than your car

In sweden we have the moped culture but also the EPA culture. Epa or A-traktor is a car that is considered to be a tractor due to it's speed limit of 30km/h but many people drive significantly faster than that. You're allowed to get the epa drivings licsence when you're 15 years old. People put very loud speakers in their cars and annoys everyone and everything. They also make the car itself louder and drifting is a very important part of the epa culture

You'll lose license for driving one that exceeds 45, but don't go over 65, and get a fine. Get caught one tuned to go faster, and you'll have to pay taxes for unlicensed light motorcycle, which cost a LOT in Finland, and get much bigger fine for driving morocycle without license. I must say driving with moped with max speed about 95-100 kmh in 15 was more thrilling experience on the road than anything later on :D
@konna77142 жыл бұрын

@jhutt80022 жыл бұрын
@@konna7714 How so? Moped that goes faster than 65 kmh, or has bigger than 50 cc block is lawfully light motorcycle. That's clear, and then if you drive a vehicle on the road without paying applicable tax, tax can be collected recursively. That applies to vans having extra seats (making them not a van by taxation) to using untaxed fuel on diesel car to driving vehicle currently out-of-road by owners admission (hence tax-free). There's plenty of people who had to pay taxes for their mopeds, because of this. So either that is still the case or law has changed since (how, I would be interested?)
