I absolutely love the conceptualization of Morag as a living, breathing ecological disaster; echoes of the desolation of Smaug or the Worm of Lambton. Cheers Father Aaron! Edit: typo!

9:20 and I quote "We have a Christmas Tree bonfire, where we set fire to everyone... anyone who has a natural tree" Sarcasm: See, this is what happens when a Priest plays D&D. One day they're all just playing a fun game, and the next thing you know they're setting fire to everyone. Well... anyone who has a natural tree. Priest: Her tree is made of wood. Do you know what this means? It means she's a witch, and what do we do with WITCHES? Parishioners: We BURN WITCHES! 🧙♀🧹🔥 And THIS is how "The Satanic Panic" actually started 😱😈

@@TheDungeonMinister Father Aaron Bob Hastings again. I just rewatched the video and had a question .. you always said that you would not kill the PCs because they are your family. I wonder, would you have done it in the boss fight here? I just watched the latest video by the Alexandrian , it was about player immunity , does that still hold with you Cheers Bob
@TheDungeonMinister8 ай бұрын
@@bobhastings6464 Death immunity ended a while ago. I still don't purposely or even randomly throw things at the party that are simply too much - if I roll a random encounter and it comes up three Purple Worms...no. Not doing it. Modules were sold with advice for what levels it would be appropriate for. I essentially write for their level and party composition to be challenging but not impossible. And I will say, "You know you only have five hit points, right?" But if they ignore me (as some of my FLGS players do) that's on them. So if Fauxfire, after getting hit, had elected to leap on the dragon with her sword drawn...well...she'd be a goner. And Touchberry was in actual danger when he charged Morag with 7 or 8hp. They're just playing smart, using tactics and plans, and always willing to withdraw if necessary.

oh man this dragon mini rules!!! That was a really harrowing battle! The talk of "one of our characters really might die here" is always a curious moment, especially when its in a situation where the death would be fitting or heroic or legendary. Part of you almost wants it to happen, to see someone pass into legend, but then also you don't! You like playing them. I had this recently. My mercenary ranger, a 30-years war analog army brat all but raised in siegeworks with sapping tools in her hands, on the run trying to save some dumb newbie adventurers. We're holding off the magitech automatons, spells and bolts flying past us. Acrobatics rolls to get from roof to roof, tied together in case one of us falls. I fail once, twice, and third time I look at the dice, look up, and say that I think its possible Adeline might die here. She didn't, the fighter hauled my butt up and kept me alive, but to look at a character death is always a really fascinating experience. Its a fun thing abut fiction, is that it lets us live in moments we can't otherwise experience. Not everybody has a moment where they have to choose bodily harm to rescue someone, or a sudden burst of insane bravery at just the right moment. Fiction lets us feel a tiny taste of what it might feel like. D&D is a great game. Touchberry has the right idea about how to handle a dragon IMO!

Thanks! It is an awesome mini...though almost doesn't qualify as mini! Yes, the opportunity to explore ideas, feelings, etc. is a great side-effect of the game.

Great episode as always. The professional speaker never disappoints. I do have one question though, did the players keep taking cold damage from Morag, you know, from being so close to her? If so, you did not mention it during the battle. Just wondering, not harping or complaining. It seemed like the battle did not take that many rounds.
@TheDungeonMinister8 ай бұрын
Right you are! I've actually already recorded the next episode, and I do mention that. They take damage, but if course it's less time then slogging there on horseback. So they each take a further 3hp, which is what I decided being in her immediate presence would do. Fauxfire gets down to 2hp! And thanks!
