Alpha strikes are interesting. It's kind of a way to build your list and kind of a tactic in the moment. The last tournament I went to, 4/5 games my Rogal Dorn wound up the massive target, with the opponent attacking very aggressively to take it down, and it would go down. That done with though, my army usually had enormous ability to hit back and gut the enemy damage dealers. It was like the Dorn was ablative wounds for my entire army, which was enormously efficient.

15:00 This is what also makes Eldar and Tau great at alpha striking. They both have a lot of maneuverable units that can strike at the holes that have been punched.

The guard 2000 pt alpha strike list: 3x basilisks, 3x manticores, 3x Earthshakers, 6x Scout Sentinels, Stracken, 40x catachans, 2x preachers, Enginseer w/Servitors.

Get yourself 4 tauroxes so your Catachans can 6" scout + 12" move + 3" move order + 1d6" advance + 3" disembark in the first turn. 25-30" movement with your infantry squads in the first turn is insane.

My best alpha strike was when I spent all of my CP on my first turn, and Killed a chaos knight in one shot with a demolisher cannon. It was in 9th edition, 1000 pts game. I used vengeance for cadia, load fire reload, and hail of fire. It was epic

Great video....This made me realize scout sentinels could do a fairly interesting tactic to disrupt turn 1 positioning by the enemy (not really an alpha strike....but an annoying one). Scout and move move move 3 sentinels to take a hail mary suite of lascannons / hunter killer missiles at a tank; maybe charge into a unit that helps create an effective move block (meanwhile get those jungle fighters on the objectives)....save 2 cp and bring those sentinels back when the enemy does eventually eliminate them. Are you buying it as an interesting play if you win the roll-off or not worth it to have 3 scout sentinels in a squad?

Great video mate I'm new to the new 40k played in the 90s was always drawn to Guard. I don't like the name change I've started collecting and 3d Printing but struggling with the new concepted you make it much more interesting. It would be good if you could do a vid on the very basics on starting not armies but setting up a game

I play Orks and GSC. Both are very aggressive, but I always come in with the mindset of "I'm going to try to kill as much as I can while scoring as much as I can and hopefully I do enough that as my army starts to fold like paper I can still manage tk squeeze out a victory" It's less about finishing the game early and it's more about hitting hard enough that I'm still there for the game late

Personal favorite alpha strike is the "Pile of Bodies" alpha strike. Designed to not necessarily kill anything in particular, but instead to take the biggest, chunkiest thing and get it right up in your opponent's face and use it to keep them pinned in their DZ. My opponents like it better, cause I'm not trying to deny them the ability to play by picking up their models, and giving them something nice and chewy to sink their teeth into, meanwhile it's a strategy to give me an early lead on points and board control, so it's not like I'm just punting the game to give them a good time. In and 9th, i loved using 30 Incursors and a Lord of Deceit character, allowing me to throw 30 bodies at my opponent right off the bat, with a redeploy to reposition them if i didn't get 1st turn. In 10th now I'm trying to make it work with Scout Sentinels. 540pts, but it's 63 T7/3+sv wounds that your enemy needs to chew through before they can move out to the midboard. If they take out some stuff with 18 anti-tank shots and 27 anti-infantry melee attacks between them, all the better.

I got alpha struck Saturday, orks over ran my mech guard and the command structure had to pull away for an orbital bombardment, destroying the factory we were defending but also defeating the orks
