The Veteran Guardsman kit's directions for putting models together is super goofy - for example, one of the dudes you can build has options be EITHER a vox caster or a plasma gunner. So my guess is that the rules teams is basing the wargear options off of the directions of the kit.

​@@convelfenris5786 most mono kill team boxes cannot build the entire roster with just 1 box. There is nearly always 1 gunner option or so that you might miss. Not that its matters that much most of the time.

Yeah, agree with you on the "how many specials" question. Its plainly meant to be 4, functionally the same as the Cadians, but the messiness of the datasheets does justify the confusion. I dont understand how they could have messed it up so badly. ;)

Index lets them take 6 for a 20 man, the only difference for the codex is the melta gun is in the same slot with plasma/vox, and it being 2 models for the second group

​ @januszorlowski3562 Nope. The vox doesn't have a double asterisk so isn't included in the additional 2 options per 10 rule. So for 10 man you could take grenade from the top bullet point (1/2 satisfies top bullet point), then a vox and plasma from the bottom bullet point (2/2 satisfies bottom bullet point). Then check the ** options (satisfies 2/2 options with **). Therefore grenade + vox + plasma satisfies all rules. For a 20 man it's just like selecting another 10. So for the next 10 you can just take plasma and melta, no vox. Final loadout: 2 plasma, 1 melta, 1 grenade, 1 vox. Lastly as Matttt pointed out, you might as well take 2 medics. The * * * rule only exists to say that the vox guy can't also be a medic at the same time. All the confusing asterisk soup is all just a horribly written attempt to say: "2 unique specials per 10 man, and providing that these are not BOTH plasma and melta, then you can also add a vox."

I see it as now. 4 special weapons = 20 man. Vox/plasma/melta= 2 for 20. But GW should say something about this. If confused just take all lasguns like real guard players and die charging everything. 😂 Thanks for everything Mordian ❤

Highly accurate, high casualty, and focusing on rushing the objective despite the costs. Its sounds very thematic, and I like that. anything too big for the infantry gets the artillery., which is guarded by the machine guns and las cannons. anyone feeling bold enough to hide gets the lance.

currently the app allows you to take four special weapons, max of two of any type, plus 2 plasma guns if you swap out the vox casters in a 20 man squad. Now if you are looking to make them more durable and killy I suggest a krieg command squad, a psyker, and either Nork Deaddog or orgyn bodyguard (attached to the command squad). This combo will cost you 395pts minimum but makes one heck of tar pit that your opponent is just going to hate. specially with the krieg special ability effecting the command squad, body guard, and psyket.

@paul-xj5iz the app hasn’t been updated to reflect the codex and is still using the Index datasheet so can’t be used in conjunction with the Krieg command squad which is only in the codex.

Double Grenade, Double Plasma, Vox would be my go to for more long range + the cp refund. I'd chose melta and plasma if I put a 10man squad in a chimera, though.

@@KingHazardno you can take two vox. The triple* simply means the model can only take that option. So it can’t double up on wargear. If it was only one per unit then you couldn’t take to medipack which is explicitly pointed out as an option

I like to think of it as the ballistic skill is the threshold and the hit is the actual die roll. When I think of it in those terms it made way more sense to me.

6:20 your 10 man unit can take 2 special weapons. Your 20 man unit can take 4 special weapons. If you want to take a vox caster, one of your special weapons will have to come from flamer/grenadelauncher/longlas.

This is how I read it as well. Although I do see where the 8 special weapon crowd is coming from. I feel this should have been only one list instead of two. 8 special weapons in a 20 man squad would be bonkers. They might as well send off Cadians and Catachans into the sunset as well if they did that. It's also complete bollocks that your choice of adding a vox-caster depends on the guns you take. Are the microwaves of the melta interfering with the vox signal when you're wearing gas masks?

Im taking two plasma and two grenade launchers (24" range) and then another squad with 2 flamers and two melta guns (12" range) the close up face smash squads have the short range guns and the squad directly behind them has the longer ranged stuff.

In the second loadout you mentioned 2 vox AND 2 medi, but thought I saw the text in you vid with 3*** saying you can only take 1 per 10. Can you clarify?

GW made the krieg squad options so that you can play them as a kill team, and you can field your kill team in 40k. It's convoluted and annoying, but I do understand the logic.

My Kriegers are all a mess loadout-wise. I assembled them with Kill Team in mind so I could have one of every option to swap out between, but the friends who forced me to play Kill Team are now no longer my friends. Guess I'm off to buy more next payday to try and fix things for regular 40k.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am only able to build ONE Melta or Plasma guy in a 10 man box. So building 2 from 1 box is not possible without some adjustments. Having 4…forget about it. Not gonna happen :D Back back to my concern. I can’t build 4 plasma/melta guys in 20 from 2 boxes. Pls help.

the problem is with plasma melta combo that it can't be build from the new box. since it uses the same arm for both options. I am running plasma + grenade launchers since you can actually build that

I think for other armies, you're right that it can get a little nuts. But for guard, there's a few things to keep it in check. First, even with a 20 brick of kriegers in cover, if they get focus fired or charged by a halfway competent melee threat, they all die. You're not getting the medikit or grim demeanor bonus in this case. Second, for the few times that your unit survives and is below half strength, they will have to pass a battleshock test. If they fail, they can't be ordered. Third, getting a couple guys back when you're below half strength is fine. If you have so few models remaining, it means you are choosing to keep your medikit guys and removing your special weapons. That's silly, the last couple guys in your squad should be your special weapons. So the medikit guys at that point are just nice to have but not necessary. The biggest bonus is that they'll let you revive a plasma gunner that failed a hazardous roll and they fire again. TLDR: The best part of the rules combo - hitting on 2+ and +1 to wound, happens so infrequently that you'll be lucky that it procs more than once a game. Medikits don't do much at all to help the combo.

With the wargear, it's not that hard to figure out? You can only take 2 medi-pack and vox-caster with lasgun. For the flamer, grenade launcher and long-las, you can take 1 in a ten man squad, or two in a 20 man squad. For the melta & plasma, you can take 2 in a 10 man squad, or 4 in a 20 man squad. So, 1 of each, in a 10 unit, and 2 of each in a 20 unit. Or, hell, with the way it's phrased, you can take up to 4 plasma or melta.

My assumption is that they will keep it true to what the box can build and the rules from the Idex. 1 metla, 1 plasma, 1 grenade launcher, 1 medi pack per 10 dude. I fully expect there to be a rather quick FAQ/ Errata to clarify all this for better or worse. However until they do my 6 Special weapon 20 man blobs I built from the index are going to remain as is.

I've been studying this sheet quite a bit. And I belive that you can not take 2 plasma and 2 melta. You can pick 2 from the first list . And 2 from the second list. Also the Vox takes a special weapon slot

Why did they not just make the whole left part with the special weapons just say: You can only pick 2 per 10 models from this list, you cannot take the same weapon more than once unless you have 20 models, then you made take up to 2 of the same. Then single * on the vox that says "You may not take vox and the medic key together" Or something like that, might be smooth brain but seems way easier that way. Not sure why they'd break the specials into 2 blocks like that. It's like they OUT of their way to make it more convoluted...1 per squid, regardless of the # of models"

No. According to the kit you can only take 1 special wepion per 10 because the box only comes with 1 arm for all the options and we can only go off what is in the box

The official wh40k battle forge app currently does allow, at least, 5 special weapons with 2x10 man squads. What am I missing? 1st stipulation ruleset “For every 10 models, up to 2 DK troopers can have their lasgun replaced with one of the following: flamer, grenade launcher, melta gun, sniper.” 2nd stipulation ruleset:”For every 10 models in the unit, 1 DK trooper’s lasgun can be replaced with one of the follwing: 1 lasgun and vox-caster (lasgun cannot be replaced); 1 plasma gun” The app calls out and marks all errors when creating a list in real time. It allows me to field 1x10 with flamer, sniper, vox, 7 lasguns and 1x10 with grenade launcher, melta, plasma, 6 lasguns without any errors and a green check mark. That is 20 guys and 5 with special weapons, right? Maybe not 8, but more than 4 🤷🏻‍♂️ any clarification to my ignorance is appreciated. Great video! Thanks for the info!!

I think the vox does not count as a special weapon for the purpose of the special weapons rule since the special weapons replace the lasguns and the vox caster keep his. So 1 guy per squad can take a vox and 4 guys can swap their lasguns for Special weapons.

for me looking at it the two star comment is what counts, it states every option is twice only unless at 20 men strong, then 4 can be taken, so thats saying that you can take 4 plasma in a 20 squad, the section with it states you can take two plasma for ever 10, so 10+10 is 20. 2+2 is 4, so by looking at both sections you should be able to take 8, 4 of one option, 4 of another.

Look at the ***. You can have either vox caster OR medpack (because you can have more than 1 medpack). So ** means you can have a total of 4 special weapons.

@Cadia541st ya same. If you follow the Large square ⬛ Bullet points. It says for every 10 take 2 of these guns** (if there's 20 then take 4 because there's two sets of 10). And there's two large bullet points that you follow separately. Simple as.

You look past the single * at the top of the list: you can't take 2 plasma guns or 2 melta guns in a 10 man squad. In a 10 man squad, each weapon needs to be different. You can duplicate in a 20 man squad. The ** is where it gets hairy. I can see why people would take 8 special weapons. You could read the text as for every 10 models in the unit, you can take 2 special weapons from the first list, and you can take 2 special weapons from the second list. So basically you would take 2 plasmaguns, 2 meltaguns, 2 grenade launchers and maybe 2 flamers. I strongly feel that's not what they intend, as both other options only have access to 4 special weapons in a 20-man unit without getting compensated by either cheaper units or better special rules.

What’s about 20 DkoK guys with a 6 man Command squad and a Bullgryn Bodyguard? 27 Models with 34 wounds and T6! Awesome. Everyone missing the marshal, but T6 is bigger than the FNP

You won't be T6 since bodyguard gained Character keyword. They are still good! But keep in mind essentially you'll remove models until there's a single GEQ (Krieger of the og 20 man squad) and the Ogryns Bodyguard and Commander. Once the last guardsman dies the squad becomes a separate unit with its starting strength. The Ogryn bodyguard FNP is good for precision. But they aren't really defensive in the normal sense, your best bet is to have them just be the punch back while you remove Guardsman from the back. They have raw Straken like attacks (no rerolls or anything)

The Ogryn is a character but it still integrates into the command squad, it's not a leader. Being a character stops it from taking hits for the bodyguard unit though. Once the last bodyguard unit dies, the ogryn is still part of the command squad and thus the command squad will be T6.

Miss my tough infantry. Being able to regenerate d3+1 is okay, but I’d rather have a 5+ FNP and regenerate d3. I would have appreciated a 5+ FNP to mortals and devs from the command squad just to show they don’t go down easy. The 6+++ is a joke.

I read as 4 special weapons per 10. Otherwise why not just state 2 out of this list of 4 weapons? I think it’s 4 but they don’t want people spamming the better weapons. Kabalites get 4 special weapons per 10…it’s nothing new.

You have to decide between the first and 2nd selection marked with „*“. You can only take one of them. Then you are allowed to take 2 per 10 man with no duplicates stated in „**“ in a 10 man squad, but 2 of the same kind in 20. I had to read it 20 times because I hoped for more. I have already built snipers and Granate launcher guys which I need to cut off again. Kinda annoying tbh.

Vox counts as a special weapon choice to replace your pick from plasma and melta. The triple asterisk says you can't have more than one vox and one medic per 10-man squad. It's terribly worded, and honestly I think many people will be confused until the app update comes out.

@@AnonD38 No, you can have both. It says a MODEL can only take one of these options, not a UNIT. The *** only means you can only include 1 of each in a 10-man squad to prevent every single rifleman to run around with a voxcaster and a medipack.

The * does indeed say you can’t have more than one of each in a 10 man squad, or 2 of each in a 20 man squad. So a 10 man squad can have one voxcaster and one medipack, and a 20 man squad can have 2voxcasters and 2 medipacks.

I’m going to have to partly disagree there is definitely a place for the long laz +1 for heavy +1 take aim makes it 2+ BS with precision and -2 ac 2D that kills a marine Sgt or special weapon on average. Not something to be taken lightly.

For those who are confused, this is what the special weapon options allows: You may have up to 2 special weapons per 10 men. You cannot repeat the same special weapon, with the exception of a 20 man squad where you can have two of the same special weapon per squad. Strangely, vox caster counts against the total of 2 (or 4 if 20 man) special weapons you have - ONLY WHEN considering Plasma and Melts Guns. So you can have two grenade launchers and two plasma guns you're fine, you can use two vox casters too. But if you have 1 melts and 1 plasma in a 10 man squad you cannot have a vox caster. Likewise, if you have 2 plasma and a melta in a 20 man squad, you can still take a vox caster and a long las, but you could NOT take two vox casters instead.

Ok my previous commet wrong sorry... Yes it is 8 by reading that. Each paragraph is it own rule. So the first lets you take 4 options (due to the **no more than 2 of each or 4 of each if 20man) so say 2 grenader and 2 flamer Second paragraoh lets you do the same but say 2 melta and 2 plasma. Or even 4 plasma

Mordian. I think you need to read the data sheet again properly. It’s 4 weapons per 10 man. All of which have to be different. You cannot take more than 2 of any weapon in a 20 man. The kit doesn’t allow it.

My good sir, it seems like you have forgotten one of your own armies in your first statement (0:20). I know that Yarrik is by chance a corpse on the planet of Armageddon, but to be sure you choose instead of krieg, Armageddon steel legion. I would feel that if you preferred krieg gasmasks you would have them. Yet you choose the Armageddon style of gasmasks. You sir are an excellent example of the contrary of your previous statement.

For me if im using a command squad i will be going cadians to res my dead plasmagunners. if im NOT doing command squads ill do DKOK for the same reason as the res models is on the infantry and not the command squad.
