I think you handled the Game 5 pregame perfectly well. Gave a polite heads up to your list, but didn't overly push it to the detriment of your team. You avoided the "gotcha, I have indirect fire!" and avoided hamstringing your team by throwing the game.

In Staken's fight with the Hive Tyrant: Tyranid's turn, the Gargoyles charge and so have Fights First, Straken has Fights First; it is the Tyranid's turn, so would Straken not fight before any of them, being that the first swings go to the player who's turn is it not?@@MordianGlory These videos are the best kind. i love listening to your stories while doing hobby. And regarding your question on informing my opponent: I usually go through lists before such a decission. If you dont forget to tell about your indirect and other secondary relevant abilities that is all your opponent should need.

I think fixed is generally the wrong call for Nids. Your strong suit is secondaries and a well built list is good at scoring most of them. You don’t want to limit your secondary scoring - you aim to smash secondaries to open up a lead and make up for lack of lethality.

The Grenades wargear stratagem can cause mortal wounds for 1 CP. You roll six die six and every dice that rolled 4+ is a mortal wound. This is a counter for C'Tan as you can use any unit or character with grenade capability in it's data card. Also, the grenade tossing range in the war gear stratagem is 8 inches and it happens in the shooting phase. This is a useful Scion weapon for heavy vehicles and other hard targets like C'Tan.

Pretty sure Mordian knows what Grenades are and no it's not a counter to C'Tan. If you could do it like 5 times at once (like Death Guard used to be able to kinda(well 4 times, but you get the idea)) THEN it's a counter. Now it's only chip damage on C'Tans. They are just underpriced for how durable they are. It's also not particularly great on Scions cause most of the time you don't really wanna spend points on Rapid Ingress and instead just drop and start blasting. So you won't be in range to use Grenades. It's much more useful on regular Guard Infantry.

issue is 1/round. You are talking about on average 17.5 mortal wounds per game. It would have helped potentially, but its not "a counter"

@@janehrahan5116 Average 15 per game (assuming you can Grenade every shooting phase). Out of 6 dice you roll a 4+ an average of 3 times (so 3 Mortals on average). Multiply by x 5 (rounds) to get 15. 17.5 is the average result of 5d6. I'm sure it was just a small mistake and yeah I agree. It can certainly help chip some wounds off. It does an average of 2 wounds to a C'tan due to its 5+++, so even if you Grenade one C'tan for 5 rounds that won't kill it on average (cause AFAIK C'tan have more than 10 wounds).

For the Nid game, I think you did the right thing. Giving him a heads up was the right thing to do and, if it was a solo tournament, I might have pushed the point. The fact that you had a team relying on you is the reason why I wouldn't have doubled down on telling him to drop those objectives.

I dont believe you can stack the standard an medipack on the same dude, check the asterisk; 1 Tempestus Scion equipped with a hot-shot lasgun can be equipped with 1 regimental standard.** 1 Tempestus Scion’s hot-shot lasgun can be replaced with one of the following: 1 hot-shot laspistol and 1 medi-pack 1 hot-shot lasgun, 1 hot-shot laspistol and 1 medi-pack** * You cannot select the same weapon from this list more than once per unit. ** That model’s hot-shot lasgun cannot be replaced. Once you pick either the medipack or the standard you cannot replace its lasgun anymore, and if you are planning on arguing the statement for the regimental standard does NOT state anything about "replacing", i would argue it is still implied that its a complete overwrite of its equipment, as it lists the lasgun he already would have had in addition to the standard, along with the fact if you ran this "algorithm" in the other direction where you pick the standard first and the medipack second, it wouldnt be possible rules as written. Arguing it works because of the wording seems silly and it clearly isnt intended for you to pick both, as both of the "loadouts" include the double asterisk of not allowing replacement, and every loadout outside of the standard's one (which is likely due to it being first in the list) being equipped by wording is at "replacing" the lasgun seems like intentionally ignoring the clear intention for you own benefit. If thats what you wanna do then fine, but in my opinion the existence of the double asterisk lockout phrase demonstrates the intention quite clearly and would classify this as a "that guy" rule reading just to squeeze out and extra heavy weapon into the squad while gaining all the benefits of the other wargear.

STRAKEN IS SUCH A BEAST!!! I fought a casual 1000pt game today against the Ork menace, Straken an a blob of 20 catachans charged the centre, move blocking and turn 2 charged straight into a Deff Dread and a group of 10 boys, Straken leaps ontop of the Deff Dread and plunges his blade straight through the viewing slit and merks the first Deff Dread only to have his group charged by a 2nd Deff Dread and a weirdboy. The 20 catachans and the Ork boys merk each-other down to the last Ork, until its just one catachan, Straken and the stomping, smoke billowing mechanical beast taking limbs off left right and centre. Straken then single handedly takes out the 2nd Deff Dread in a billowing explosion that wipes out the last jungle fighter to then hold the objective and win me the game. One man army! all while not even losign a single wound, not a scratch on him. Actual legend.

Our problem in the Guard is that we don't have a concentrated melta unit that has innate re-rolls like these do. Maybe the Hydra? I'm curious to know your thoughts because Hypercrpyt C'tan deep striking within 3" seems to be a hard counter for traditional Guard lists.

Melts are actuality kind of annoying for Ctan, since thier damage halving happens before applying the damage bonus. Yeah, it is tough to wound, and they have that invulnerable, but a melta can still potentially hit them for 5 (6 becomes 3 then adds +2)

Even just wearing a camera on a strap around the neck and taking a literal second to snapshot after he moves each unit count vastly increase the presentation of these video with no extra investment, which are already entertaining, but can be confusing at times to figure out exactly what he's describing.

Honestly, because I think it makes the tournament very unenjoyable for Mordian. He's there as a player as well (And not only a content creator) and constantly having to take Photos not only takes you out of the game (and possibly conversations you may have with your opponent), but may end up being annoying for them (in addition to likely being annoying to Mordian himself). I know I would be if it happened to frequently, because your opponent has to constantly take a second away from the game (and trust me... this would sum up and be really annoying real quick). Would I prefer it purely for aesthetics? Absolutely. But I also understand why Mordian doesn't do it. Because it detracts from the tournament itself and makes it a worse time for everyone involved.

Very sporting to mention the basilisk regarding secondaries in game 5, you didn't need to say anything, and I think a hint is perfectly sporting... you don't need to go and say you can just flat deny him points from turn 1... if you give your opponent a hint and chance to think it through, then that is plenty sporting enough. If you then went and did your thing, well, the ball was in their court.. In addition if you didn't say anything and did your thing, I imagine they would be pretty annoyed, but that's on them not you, If you have 2 Basilisks in your army with massive guns, they probably know you can indirect fire without you saying anything...

On the "controversy" of this episode. If the rules of the tournament specified that you select missions before revealing lists, I would not have told him at all. If it specifies you reveal lists before selecting missions I would have done as you did. Pressuring an opponent into doing what you think is correct is wrong, its their army they are allowed to make their own decisions, but they deserve all information that the tournament says they should have to make said decision.

I was wondering why no one is running this combo. If you read it again, it's because the unit needs to stay stationary for it to work. So it can't be used on Deep Striking Scions unfortunately. The only edge case I can think of that might be useful is in an infantry spam list to have on a Castellan with a bunch of Mortars sitting on objective duty. The Mortars would proc lethal and sustained hits on 5's. It's alright I guess.

IMO, in regards to the fixed objectives game, it's already going above and beyond to tell your opponent there's a problem with their strategy and why. If you have to actually spell out what's going to happen in the game beyond that you're actively playing the game for them. They'll also learn a lot more from actually playing out the situation rather than just being told what will likely happen.

I think you did the good call on game 5, considering it's competitive and a team event at that, where your decisions not only affect you. I'm not saying you have to be a dick, but you already warned him, and he kept going forward. If it was a normal 1vs1 and you wanted to face your opponent at full strength because you want to improve, it only affects you, you want to be nice, etc. I would say insist, but I don't think you were hiding information nor trying to surprise him in any way shape or form so it doesn't seem rude or anything like that to me.

I don't think the necron player smashed you. You're having fun with a subpar list and are kinda shooting yourself in the foot. He went for the big cheese (kinda tired of seeing those C'thaans that are supposed to be almost mythological in every necron game) and won the battle but lost the war. Astra Militarum prevailed. Uh, kasrkin cannot use their warrior elite ability to be under orders when coming in from strat reserves, they are not on the table at command phase and thus cannot use an ability at all. Don't lie to people man.

Key Documents, Rules Commentary, then under Reserves Units it states: “Any unit that starts the battle in a location other than the battlefield, and is not embarked within a Transport that starts the battle on the battlefield, is considered to be a Reserves unit. When a Reserves unit is set up on the battlefield, it counts as having made a Normal move that phase. Any Reserves units that have not been set up on the battlefield by the end of the battle count as destroyed. Units can still use rules and abilities while in Reserves.”
