@@percymacdonald6657 yeh. They count as being equipped by the vehicle. So a take aim order from a tank commander or the lord Solar will affect the weapon.

I like the idea of running Catachans in them and as many torrent weapons as possible. Let's you make aggressive moves in to the middle of the board and strongly discourages anything from moving too close, lest you bless it with fire.

The command vehicle ability is at least useful turn 1 to be able to use the officer inside with their 10 man squad to order something outside the tank before they zoom off. I think catachans with straken in a chimera and some scout sentinels could make for an interesting skirmishing flank

Assuming that your interpretation of the Master Vox and Command Vehicle stacking it correct, you could put a Platoon Command squad with a special weapon and heavy weapon, to take advantage of that firing deck two, and issue an order (or two with master tactician) to be a nice mobile forward command bunker.

sadly as per the rules commentary "Units embarked within a Transport do not count as being on the battlefield" and only the officer MODEL can benefit from the rule while all other models in the unit are treated as off the battlefield therefor the master vox wargear wouldn't work guard rules are janky af :(

2 words: Ogryn. Battlewagon. Rush into the enemy, get the heavy flamers firing, bind their shooty stuff in meele and when the Chimera goes boom then the enemy has to deal with 3 ogryns in rapid fire and charge range

I have an Armoured Mech Company complete with 2 full strength Armoured Fist Platoons totaling 12 Chimeras all with either autocannons or twin Heavy Bs and most with hull flamers as well. sadly, they won't get out of the barracks much now.

The new Lasgun array is fantastic. I've played a couple games recently where it did some serious damage and coupled with double flamer is was putting out some serious hate. Dumped my Bulgryn out in front of it and just rolled through the middle of the field. Didn't think much of the Chimera until then and now it's one of my absolute favorite tools.

I'd actually raise a point of note regarding the chimera as a pillbox Techpriests. You can bring them independent of the unit aboard and disembark them when the unit gets on the point, while the squad aboard stays in the chimera and uses the firing ports. This means that you can ensure OC on the objective even if the chimera gets blasted away, and the techpriest helps with that as well by potentially giving it a 4++ while becoming a mean punchy character if the chimera he's watchdogging dies. Maybe include a servitor retinue? Alternatively, maybe a comissar attached to a regular squad. I don't remember if their ability hard counters the auto-battleshock of a unit disembarking from a wrecked chimera.

The master vox does not work because the vox caster isn't on the table. The vox caster does not give you the benefit if the model carrying the vox dies, same kinda thing

I like to put a squad of catachan's with two flamers in, especially if facing something like orcs or nids. They can scout to race toward the objective, and when the enemy swarms in return, they can fire overwatch with 4 flamers.

The reason the Chimera is so cheap is that it only has Imperial Guardsmen to transport. Every other transport in the game is moving something a lot more dangerous about. The other thing that comes to mind is that they don't have a split squads rule, so I don't think you can get a double-sized squad of 20 Guardsmen and split them between two Chimeras. This means that, besides the points cost, you're somewhat limiting your overall body count by putting a 10-man battleline unit into one. Those caveats aside, bearing in mind what you've previously said about 10th trending towards being a very mechanised edition, and Chimeras seem like a good way to add some cheap extra armour to overwhelm the opponent's anti-tank capability.

before watching this clip i want to ''chime'' in and mention that chimeras are imo one of the better light tanks now as well cos you can firedeck2 them with 2 2x teams of rapier laser destroyers for 2x 30 points thanks to them being regiment and their quad lascannons counting as 1 gun (but wait, there is more: they are even artillery so sustained hits1 from regimental attachees on top). so for 145 points you get tanks with 4 twin linked lascannons, 2 heavy bolters, a heavy stubber, a hk and the lasgun array. and when the chassis dies you still can exit the rapiers and keep firing.

So firing your special weapon and heavy weapon outside the chimera using Firing Deck 2, along with the lasgun arrays 6 shots, a Chimera might as well be allowing the entire squad of infantry it's carrying to shoot out

I think what makes sense isnt always what the Rules as Written portray. It says that MODEL can issue an order, not unit. I unfortunately think that RaW means they cannot use the Master Vox.

I agree with the idea it is useful as a mobile pillbox. I’m planning on using 2 Chimeras with all the dakka and then either lascannon or heavy bloter squads in it. I think blobs of 20 Krieg would be better to move onto objectives though because once the Chimera is destroyed 10 guardsmen isn’t enough to hold a point.

those 20 krieg will get basted much more reliably before they footslog 6" a turn though, the extra movement and durability are invaluable for objective play also guardsman are some of the best oc to point ratio in the game so contesting opponents objective shouldn't be an issue if you can get there, while the armored fist squad provides much needed durability to attempt to hold onto it through your opponents turn so you can secure it

Can't use a Master Vox for embarked command squad, as that's a wargear ability, abilities for embarked units can not be used. See Rules Commentary Embarked Units... The Mobile Command Vehicle only states the office model can issue an order, doesn't say anything about his or his units abilities.

The weird thing with the Mobile Command Vehicle ability is that an Officer in a Chimera can give Orders to units outside the vehicle but can’t issue Orders to the unit in the vehicle with the Officer since the unit is not on the table. For that reason I would also say the Master Vox while in a Chimera wouldn’t work as the unit is not on the table, it’s the same as if the guy with the Master Vox gets killed.

Personally in 10th, I think the chimera and taurox are tied. Chimeras are hands down the better choice for for clearing GEQs, is more survivable, and has command ability for orders. But the taurox is faster which makes it better at doing its base job of transporting infantry. Taurox has 4 S9 AP-1 D3 shots that reroll wounds so it’s hands down better against MEQs and vehicles. So it’s a tie imho, just depends on what you want.

taurox only has 2 twinlinked shots and a stormbolter so much less dakka it can be an interesting tech piece with the advance and disembark but the less wounds, toughness, and no firing deck/command ability make it quite a bit worse imho

Again, it depends on the role. You’re not getting much utility out firing deck for infantry squads, CSTs or Catachans, and if you’re loading it with a HWS to make a gun truck I think you’re probably misusing it. The taurox will be able to more efficiently tackle several different kinds of targets than a chimera. And 4 S9 shots rerolling wounds is a very good thing. Not to mention, they’re 20pts cheaper.

@@johnpjones1775 2 special/1 and a heavy weapon is nothing to be laughed to the point that it almost already equals the entirety of the tauroxes firepower... and the chimera has 4 other high rate of fire weapons on top of that as well as a HKM and again you only get 2 twin linked autocannon shots not 4, it's only a single twin autocannon that only has ap 1 at the end of the day so it's quite swingy despite reliably wounding I'd argue that a tougher package with FAR more dakka and a bit less utility is well worth 20 points

So you’re going to waste points and objective capturing to turn a chimera into a gun truck? You’ll be utilizing firing deck for maybe 2 shooting phases, if you use a chimera as an actual transport. But no, a plasma and a melta being added doesn’t really improve the firepower that much. It’s a lot of dakka but it doesn’t effectively engage or counter the same targets as the taurox. And you’re right, I’m still getting used to the new twin linked rules.

Chimera Multilaser should be 3 Attacks, Rapid Fire 3. Same stats otherwise. While still lacking AP, at least it will have a maximum potential damage of 6 (to match the others). It will still be kind of meh, but have some potential for shooting up hordes (in comparison to the Heavy Bolter).

cant use master Vox as the master Vox doesn't exist for the purpose of rules while embarked. the officer cant issue orders except that the chimera says they can. Rules as written and intended, as if your running a Master Vox then your officer is in the backfield with the mortars, if in the chimera your with the mobile infantry. Also, the chimera is heavy armoured, no way that vox makes it past the armour, its why it has its own radio.

servitor squad comes with 2 heavy weapons right? put them in the hatch with say meltacannons and then drive up on an objective and have the techpriest jump out to fix the chim could be kinda cool no? i was kinda turned off by the priest elsewhere, but this could put him right into the thick of it, while being close to vehicles and he gets that buff if it ends up dying...the servitor bs skill will take some managing but seems pretty nasty (and you still have a lot of room left in the chimera)

I bought 3 Chimera's last edition because I was looking for transport options, and my god the Chimera is good. I'm used to the rhino where yeah it keeps your troops safe but other than that its garbage, but if the Chimera wasn't a Dedicated Transport I probably would still field them without troops because there good armor, and last edition they were cheaper than a rhino... something I had said at the time was "The Chimera is just spitting on the Rhino"

For the weapons team in a chimera combo its just better to take a hydra or 3 sentinels every single time. Way cheaper, more attacks, same or greater durability, better abilities.

I’ve always loved the chimera and think it’s even better this edition so transports stay on the menu boys. It’s still doing what it always has , even better. I’d also say that chimera multi laser could improve , at least I hope so as many of mine have multi laser as it was the only turret option for a long time. So let’s hope they get awesome.

just not true... 10 oc2 troops with an oc 2 vehicle is all you need to contest any objective easily as long as you can get them there alive you can even retain control on your turn reliably if you keep them embarked and wipe resistance off the objective, your opponent has to destroy the transport and your squad to prevent this (except if they charge you in some circumstances) 13" effective move in a durable transport vs 2 6" blast vulnerable footslogging squads is a massive difference and they can still make use of the best weapons in the squad on the way there

because they aren't... blobs are highly overrated and are massive blast fodder chimeras provide much needed speed and protection for your objective holders while also allowing you to still make use of the 2 best weapons in the squad

Oh dear! Even the Chimera works?! 😂 Some context first: I only play 1000 points matches.. I spammed Artillery with sentinells.. killer! I spammed karskin supported by a shadowsword supported by Master Soil- killer! I spammed sentinells, crushed into melee and brought squads back each time a squad died.. killer! I spammed Kriegs insane infantry supported by Kriegs commander and the great psykers - killer! If I now spam the chimera - guess what!? 😂😂😂😂
