Dr. Deuk, I’m binge watching these videos on your channel in awe of both your empathy, expertise, and subtle humor. I hope to become like you after I graduate college and get on my way to medical school, except to go into psychiatry! Thank you for being a great spine surgeon for your patients and an inspiration to those watching the channel!

Artificial discs and other artificial things are a horrible idea especially when laser is now available to replace all “artificial” treatment Glad you are well. We are fusing a patient this Thursday because their artificial disc has popped out

I’ve been fine since 2006 and haven’t had 1 issue. Best thing I ever did. Friends and coworkers with similar injuries that had fusions and can hardly walk. And now need more surgery because the disc above deteriorating. I’ve also had multiple other treatments to repair the disc before surgery, all of them did nothing.

There are times where a disk replacement is necessary, whether it be an artificial disk or a cage (fusion). Artificial disks have been around for over 4 decades now and the research & studies on ADR compared to Fusion indicate a superior implant, lessening the risk of adjacent segment disease by a factor of 3. I'd take an ADR to a fusion any day. At worst, fusion can always be a backup but once fused its game over.

But, why is it that after spending a day and half in the emergency room 12 days of hospital rehab, Two months of physical therapy, I'm still have pain? weak legs? I am so lost. It's a big surgery with risks to match. Conservative options need to be exhausted before considering it. But it can be excellent in some cases.
@brittjuergens26609 ай бұрын
Don’t make your decision solely based on this guys videos. These are sales videos. Think about it. Artificial discs can be incredibly successful, just as endo surgical options can as well. Instead of making decisions based on KZbin videos, find a good surgeon that will do every conservative option available for you before considering fusion or artificial disc. But when you need a fusion and there are no other options, you’re gonna need it.
@July-A725 күн бұрын
@@brittjuergens2660take a step back. Before you go to fusion, see if disk replacement can work. Before disks, see if endoscopic laser treatment can fix. Before that, explore conservative non invasive physical therapies .

We need to take away life altering decisions away from insurance companies and have a panel of the most experienced surgeons say what is covered because they know what works , seems insane to me that some individuals working for the insurance companies are the deciding factors in people’s lives , laser needs to be covered by Medicare , it would save money long term when patients get better, recovery = no more expensive treatments that aren’t working

I live in DC metro area. My spine surgeon is Dr Cory Wallach at the Anderson Orthopedic Clinic. Have you heard of this group? I’ve had 2 fusions at L3/L4 and L4/L5. Just had an MRI showing L1/L2 and L5/S1 to be herniated. I’m in terrible pain. I don’t know what to do? Do you think your laser procedure could help? I’m 67, a lifelong , full time martial artist with a full time school for 35 years. I can’t even stand for 2 classes because my pain is so bad. I can send my MRI for you to examine. Please get back to me. Dr Wallach will do fusions, but I’m so tired of surgeries. (I’ve also had a hip replacement and both knees replaced, and my big toe rebuilt-another story). Do you think fusions are my only choice? This is complicated, I know, but I’m willing to try anything to relieve my pain and continue to practice and teach my art, Taekwondo-Do.
