Have you covered caulking butt joints on old lap siding? This is the most challenging for me, currently I’m caulking 2005 Hardie lap siding but the butt ends are never level to each other. How does one manage these types of issues? Also, after it dries the joint is concave, is that an issue, can one top it off with more caulk or is that a no no? Thanks, I’ve learned a lot from you!

Since the caulking is between aluminium window frame and wooden sill to fill the gap between, wouldn’t the caulk turn into yellow colour after a while since the aluminium frames wont be painted painted?

My guess is that if the caulking is properly primed and painted that won't be an issue
