@@latoyaforever I will simply give you this little advice and perhaps remove it later. My wife's mother is EXACTLY like yours. You see, the Bible verses she's quoting is design to manipulate and guilt you; those are classic moves of narcissists period! the friend is the same kind of bird too, or a copycat that even learn a new accent,telling you that you are like her. Believe it or not, these folks have studied you well, and they are winning. Pray for them, but do not entertain them, love them from afar. Anyone that disturb your peace over and over again is not worthy of your presence. My wife is an em path who attract these covert narcissist who uses bible verses whenever convenient, confused, she never knew why nothing worked for her, why she was so depressed, but when she dumped everyone of those contacts, everything started working out. Reactive abuse is when the other shames you for reacting to their mistreatment. Parents need to remember that the impact of their actions or inaction matter more than their intentions and the only acceptable apology is changed behavior. Boundaries are very important when you’re a parentified child. I am so sorry your mother is using family member to triangulate you and further manipulate and betray you. Sending lots of love your way!

Therapist here… healthy boundaries are necessary. Please feel free to talk to your therapist about the boundaries you set in your life, in terms of how you want to be treated (what feels right to you), and how you can respect your own boundaries with ALL significant others in your life (it feels bad when we shift our boundaries for certain people because then we are then breaking our own boundaries to allow behaviours that we’ve already determined aren’t healthy for us). Boundaries are love. Love for ourselves and also helping others understand that we can love each other in a healthy way. This is the standard. And if they can’t meet us there, we must love from a distance ❤. You got this ❤ Many blessings
@nyemer
@nyemer 6 күн бұрын
This is perfect and quite literally what my therapist told me years ago and it truly saved my life! I’ve always been a people pleaser to some degree being the older sister and doing everything for everyone including my mother. To be fair my mother and i’s relationship is nowhere like this, but I needed to set boundaries and understand it’s not personal or restricting and instead it gives more freedom for people to explore their relationships because at least now you truly understand this persons relational architecture. I’ve resigned myself to the belief that this is the only way you can actually begin to move toward a peaceful life. As far as the Bible scriptures Latoya, I’m a Christian and I felt compelled to tell you that all a Christian is is a follower of Christ and someone who try’s to model their life after him. Should we reference scripture and share with others? Yes but by no means do we use scripture to beat people over the heads. Christ didn’t do any of that in the Bible but instead approached everyone with love and compassion. Everyone conversation doesn’t have to be “thank the Lord for this lip gloss, or the Lord knew my chicken sandwich was etc…” we can recognize when God shows up and thank God all through our days without making a show of it, and I actually think it’s important we are intentional about not making a show out of it because it can lead to us glorifying ourselves or using that as a thing to make others glorify us subtly even if we aren’t intentionally doing it all . Please don’t let your mother or anyone chase you from your faith by giving such poor examples of it. Manipulation is hard to see when you have no boundaries. I wish you the best, but this advice from this therapist will help. Dear therapist above , thank you for all you, and thank you for this comment of a gem. We need more of you in this world 🤍

@@latoyaforever Don’t allow your mother to push you to anger. We have control over how we react to others, and it's important to let go of that anger. Otherwise, it may create a cycle that could affect your children in the future. Even if you're not directly facing the issue, they might be. You are a loving and beautiful mother and partner, full of love and positivity-and I love and enjoy your vlogs for that! Show your children, most importantly, that you can forgive and move forward, no matter how your mother treats you. Be strong and seek God's presence because His peace surpasses all understanding. When you truly forgive, you won’t feel this anger and frustration anymore. In time, your mother will stop her behavior once she realizes that you've moved on and are no longer reacting to her nonsense. The message you received was truthful, but it was hard to accept because of the anger you feel toward your mother. Once you forgive her, that message will make much more sense to you. Also, it may have been a mistake to share that voice note with others. Some things are best kept private.

You have to set very strong boundaries, and when they cross them, let them face the consequences of their actions. I grew up with a narcissist and my mom never protected me the way a parent should. Now as an adult I know right from wrong and when someone hurts me, I’m able to protect myself by either removing myself from their life or letting them get very little access to me. It’s not an easy journey but honestly I went to therapy for understanding and it HELPS! I now have relationships with both my mom and aunt (the narcissist) and I avoid them when I can tell they trying to get me into a corner. Will pray for you Toya! 🙏🏾 you got this.

First i just want to say how much i love seeing this new loved on Latoya… ❤Coming from a Jamaican household i can sympathize with you when it comes on to your mother. It wasn’t until i got into therapy myself that it hit me that your own mother can be jealous of you and what you accomplish without even knowing. Having a baby at sixteen being a child yourself is so hard so i don’t want to take that away from her but her learning to be a mother to you shouldn’t be so hurtful. The truth of the matter is hurt people hurt people. Her taking her hurt and frustration out on you was something she has always done and who are you now not allowing her to do so. Anyways i pray for your healing and your growth as you navigate your journey into motherhood i pray that your inner child gets all the love you need from your babies. ❤❤❤❤

I can absolutely relate! My mom was a young mom as well & what you were saying was literally my life. She never takes accountability & throws God into it or she becomes the victim. What worked for me, after I started therapy I started putting her on what I call "time out". I no longer argue, i cut it short & she wont hear or see me or my son until she get some act right. I'm protecting my peace & if you cant respect me you cant be around me period. Family or not, my peace is everything. Of course Id love that perfect mother daughter relationship but Ive also gained what i call "other mothers" which are women Ive met in my life that give me what Im missing with my mom. I love her but sometimes I gotta love her from a distance. & my mom is an evangelist so baby I know. Ive experienced Christians using the word as a weapon when things dont go how they want it to go. Absolutely not, God has not given me the spirit of fear either so pls move around with that!

Thank you for sharing. I’m trying to figure out what “time out” looks like in my situation. Im not arguing with her anymore, I’m not playing her game anymore, im over the toxicity.

Yep, same thing I did. No more arguing & falling into her toxic lil games. My mom still tries to bait me & I simply tell her, Nope I will not & end communication b/c you gone learn how to talk to me or don't talk at all. You gone realize I'm an adult with my own children & you can't keep pulling that "I'm your mom" card with me. Yeaaaa no. I'll be praying for you, your peace & your mental b/c I definitely know how it is & how it can take such a toll mentality. & Thank you for sharing as well ❤@latoyaforever

As a pastor this is my honest response re your mom. Cutting her off is hard but forgiveness is a must. Forgiveness tho does not mean reconciliation. Even family we have to live from a far sometimes. Talk when necessary, help where you can check up etc but guard your heart and not open up to the point where you’ll be hurt over and over again. Caribbean moms don’t know how to apologize and admit they are wrong. Guard your heart because you have a family to care for especially a young baby and they need the best you. Nothing or no one should have that power to your peace of mind. This has been on going

I loved the video. When slick put that tarp in the car window I fell out laughing 😂. It may not be pretty but slick made it work! also you can forgive people without letting them have total access to you. You set the boundaries.

Latoya please do not let your mother and her friends attempt at trying to spiritually abuse you affect your personal relationship with God, he would never send someone that says foul things and mask it as coming from the scriptures, THEY are in the wrong,leave all of their bitterness, envy, and hatefulness with God, let him carry that burden for you and move forward with your on life, cut them off if you have to. ❤

Chileeee I would have to sage myself after listening to those voice messages. The problem with dealing with a toxic parent is that they tell their support system what they want them to know and not the whole truth about their behavior. It’s so exhausting but you’re not alone girl. Love and light ❤️

Thank you for being vulnerable with us, it takes a lot of courage and strength. Concerning your mum my advice is pray for her, forgive her but it’s up to you whether you want her in your life. Put healthy emotional boundaries that’ll protect you from being hurt and disappointed ❤

I haven’t talked to my mother for months for the exact reasons you stated it’s okay to love someone from a distance. That pain is something that they will never understand no matter how you try to explain it, deal with it, and give unlimited changes. After a while there are not many chances to give… you are loved Toya 💖

Latoya, I am so sorry that you are going through this. If you need to cut ties with your mother, do so. While she is your mother, if she doesn't respect you as her daughter or honor your boundaries, it creates a cycle of toxicity that only leads to more trauma. You have a wonderful family and a successful career to protect. It seems your mother may have narcissistic tendencies which for the most part won’t change 😢 and you shouldn't allow yourself to be caught in an endless cycle with someone who refuses to address their own deep-rooted issues and gaslight you for their own wrong doing. It’s a never ending game.

Remove her from your life right now. Literally ghost her. She will learn then and come around with a different tone when she sees you cut her off for a few years. I did this with my mom. I stopped talking to her for 8 years. Shes the same way. And let me tell you, she felt that, and she seen that I meant business. I know it will hurt but girl, let her go! And circle back when you know its the right time. If she continues again with the same bs, lock her off again for another few years.

It’s so refreshing to know am not the only one going through this. I been back and forth with narcissist behaviors with my parents for years, I dusted everything under the rug never answered never gave my real feelings cause when I would even slight I was told am your mom your rude, something happened a few months ago she left me uncalled for messages on my phone it was nasty and ugly, I blocked her one time and I never unblocked her until recently it took me 8 months. Even now am I barely answer, only if in the mood. It didn’t make sense to go back and forth cause I don’t want to hear nothing to make feel am wrong.
