This is sometimes known as a suggestion cluster. Something is reported and suddenly several other reports emerge. The other reports emerged after the first woman got her bill paid. While it is true that several stores can get deliveries from the same truck...the first occurrence should have resulted in dozens of complaints that week from that location or particular pump....however it didn't.

I’m a fuel hauler. There’s no way to prove this because Costco goes through so much gas, that all of the bad gas was depleted from the underground tanks by the time it got checked out. It was likely an issue at the refinery or the fuel hauler themselves cross contaminated the load with diesel or another product.

They don’t care whose mistake it was for the bad gasoline since pursuing the matter will obviously cost them money and the bad P.R so much easier to throw money at the handful of customers. I’m sure behind the scenes they’re talking with their fuel supplier to make sure such a thing doesn’t happen again with their future shipments. Their C.E.O cannot publicly acknowledge their fuel to be contaminated and those below him cannot override his authority by speaking up, not if they’re still wanting to be employed there.

My understanding is that all gasoline basically comes from the same storage terminals, and buying a specific brand only changes the additive package that is added to the gasoline before delivery to the stations. In other words, your strategy wouldn’t work, and you merely have anecdotal evidence to back up your experience (as would anyone else). Mind you, I am not saying you are wrong to stick with what has worked for you; I have always only used Mobile 1 oil (although I just switched to Pennzoil). But I do think overall you probably wouldn’t have an issue because both gas and oil are pretty regulated and tested for quality.

Beyond that, I do not know if anyone can definitely say the major name brands are actually better. We each only have our own anecdotal experience. In that vein, in 40 years of driving, to my knowledge I have never bought a tank that caused engine trouble.

I don't trust costco as much as I used to. I bought 70K warranty tires and after getting a flat I was told by a pro I need to replace all 4. I called costco while waiting for the tow truck and they dissuaded me from coming leading me to believe I would get very little credit and it's not worth it. After being towed and getting replacements at Pep Boys, I called a different Costco only to learn at that point that I would have at least got something worth going. I don't plan on using Costco tires anymore after this experience. I feel scammed for buying their expensive tires that led me to believe I would be taken care of for 70K worth of miles.

The only time you should need to replace all 4 tires is with in all wheel drive car. If your one tire had a basic flat i.e. nail, then it could be repaired ( $30 to $50 ) If the tire was unrepaireable say a massive puncture or sidewall damage then yes 4 new tires might be required. I don't know the terms of your warrenty but it might be worth a message to thier corporate office.

Nail in side wall from construction on the street in front of the Brookhaven plaza…So naturally I drove there to get it replaced forgetting I needed to be a member… it was an emergency. I pulled up to the tire center explained my situation. They told me they could not help me without a membership. I went inside and purchased the membership. Came back they took my truck in And they did not have a tool to remove the spare. They told me it was going to be $230 for a new tire Because the old tire had a nail in it on the sidewall . I said replace the tire then. Only to find out they didn’t have a compatible tire in stock …late in the evening on a Friday. The guy who tried to help me that day was really helpful. He told me to come back the next day and we could take the tire off. I could take it somewhere else get a used tire and then he can mount it. Or I would have to wait until Monday so they can order the tire from another store. I came back on Saturday. They wouldn’t take the truck into the bay so I can get the tire off. I came back on Sunday. They wouldn’t put the truck into the bay so I can get the tire off. They had taken my truck and parked it on an incline in the parking lot. Several feet away. The guy who originally helped me was not there. When I explained what he had offered that they told me that they were not allowed to place a tire on from another company… So I asked if it was possible if we could borrow one of their truck jacks so we could change the tire ourselves I have a off-road truck a regular jack won’t work. They suggested that I go to Napa auto parts and buy a truck Jack for 400. Which is ridiculous. we ended up having to go to Lowe’s. Get concrete cinderblocks jack the truck up in the parking lot. Attempt to change the tire ourselves. Of course did not work. The truck fell off the jack several times. And embedded itself into the concrete . The tire center employees are walking by watching the struggle never once offered help. Eventually employee came out and began to laugh and take pictures and post to the Internet. The struggle that we were having to replace the tire. I went and told the manager your employees are out here making fun of our horrible situation and posting to social media about it. All of a sudden he’s not the manager anymore. Long story short, they wouldn’t help us change the tire. Even after buying a membership They made fun of our situation and they provided horrible customer service. Complained to the assistant manager and the general manager. The only thing they had to say was our apologies we will look into it. I called corporate the next day and all they said was our apologies will look into it… Needless to say, they have horrible customer service. I’m not surprised about them selling bad gas. This particular store has a horrible reputation. The management and corporate is even worse.

It looks more like her car need a good intake cleaning (probably carbon deposits have accumulated) and maybe some spark replacements. Not due to bad gasoline. But due to bad maintenance. I only use Costco for years, never had a problem. It is probably misfire due to lack of maintenance in the engine

I work on cars, every single time a car has bad gas in it is because their spouse or family member poured old gas from a fuel container that's been sitting in their garage for months it goes bad very quickly.

How could be possible that they are selling bad gas if 99% of people who use their gas don't have a problem? Stop trying to make noise and use the logic. Yes, sue them. A class action suit got 2 places around me shut down and the remaining gas stations redid their tanks. Now we have no problems and Sheetz is always running a sale. They had it at $1.77 a gallon on every grade for an entire month recently. Who buys gas at Costco ? Our local Costco shut down because nobody went there. 😂

@@99sentcoins The two stores near me is shoulder to shoulder shoppers. They are open from 9am to 8:30pm. Store is constantly being cleaned but they have trouble keeping up. All tills are being manned by 2 employees on each, on scanning the other placing it back in your cart. Probably over 100 employees working at each location. Also the gas is 20-30 cents cheaper, with a lineup of cars. Doesn't matter that they got around 30 gas pumps.

@@Azsunes Yeah, that sounds legit. It is the total opposite here. They had 10 pumps, maybe 6 worked. 5 employees, which is better than Dollar Generals 2 employees currently. I live in a city and these stores are horrible. Even CVS is a dive. We all go through the drive thru when we must go there. If you go inside, wear a respirator not a mask, cuz that place stinks badly. Walmarts not bad, they let you walk out with anything you want for free.

@@99sentcoinsI am not sure you are talking about the same Costco. Costco is a massive warehouse retailer with membership fees. They sell bulk items sort of like Sam’s Club. They also typically have a large gas station attached. There is no way that what you described was a Costco. You seam to be living either in the country or the boonies somewhere and perhaps you are referring to a some other small mom and pop shop. Lol, Costco wont open a store unless they know they are going to have constant non-stop traffic.

Very dumb response from a CEO of a major retailer before actually testing the gas. Costco buys their gasoline from local refineries. So, if a batch of gas is bad, they need to track it down to a particular refinery.

gas floats ontop of water, all thats needed is to stick the tank with water paste on the stick. it turns pink showing the level of water on the bottom of the tank. the pumps suck from an inlet thats several inches higher than the bottom of the tank. now there also should be monitors that show similar. I formerly ran 2 different gas stations.

It's possible that water may have gotten into the tank from a seal leak in the car gas nozzle. Since it didn't appear to happen to everyone who filled up at that Costco, I suspect something went wrong with those cars. Hard to find proof in this case, but it's possible that Costco is not lying and neither are the customers.

I got gas from Shell in Dahlonega. My car's check engine light started flashing two days in a row. Mechanic said it was probably bad gas, but that their engine guys are backed up until next week. They wanted me to leave my car there, but I knew there was no way I could go without my car for a week because I need it to go to work. I wonder if it's not just specific to Costco in Atlanta. I follow my owner's manual for maintenance religiously. After 12 years, it's never had a problem until now.

It may take a few days for the misfires to show up depending on how bad the gas is. The lines at Coscto are so long the bad gas will be sold by the time an inspector shows up. I had 3 incidents of misfires recently and 99% of my gas comes from Costco. Also it only happened to my smaller engines. My V6 seems to be able to burn the bad gas.

Gas and water do not mix and will separate pretty quickly. Most likely, they did not put the gas cap on or the cap seal is bad and let water in.

I totally agree with these people I have been putting gas only at Costco south Florida by west Palm beach area 2022 all the way to 2023 all this time I had to replace fuel injectors, oxygen sensor also tuneup, my vehicle is 2016 I had feeling about something is wrong with the gas in my previous vehicles I used to go to two different gas stations. Damn, I started to fuel my car at that exact location for the past two weeks. Yesterday, when I started up my car the car was shaken and engine-light blinked. I thought it must be something went wrong due to the low temp, until I saw the news. I highly suggest do not fuel your car at that location( Brookhaven Atlanta) don’t risk your car being damaged by this stupid reason. My car is Mercedes GLE 350, I saw a lot of luxury car around there, if it is true, lol Costco will in trouble.

This is true this happened to me at a different place but i identified bad fuel myself and went to gas station and got nowhere with the clerk he denied everything so i immediately called the number on the pumps told them what happened and which pump number and time and they sent someone from 3hrs away to inspect it and yes there tank was full of water. If your vehicle ran fine before and you got fresh gas and 3 to 5 minutes later it runs funny you better suspect you got bad gas

Maybe they bought gasoline when the gas tanker was filling the station with new gasoline. This filling of new gasoline can stir up sediment from the bottom and clog your car’s fuel filters.
