More flex from a HILUX ? with Colorado leaves

Im going over a leaf spring swap from the standard Hilux leaf pack to a standard Holden Colorado leaf pack.
This swap may be worth it but requires some extra tweaking to really get it working, it's definitely not as simple as just bolting in different leaf springs.
As you can see from the video my setup needs some further modification which i will be working on in the next video so keep an eye out.

Awesome vid mate. If your after a cheap pair of shocks to suit them rg springs, the 4" commando patrol shocks eBay job ones work a treat

Cut all the retainers off except for the forward most one (don’t cut them all off) also did you press up the main load leaf ? Giving it an extra 100mm of height before installation makes it droop down a lot easier and should effect ride height.

NT 001 Hi, just using a press to slowly increase the ‘arch’ main load leaf. Cold pressing is the term I believe. Just using some blocks and a work shop press. It can always be done by a suspension shop if you were uncertain

NT 001 it is to improve droop by a lot. Ride height will go up but only a small amount

Hey mate don’t quote me on this but as far as I know 2” lifted springs are just stiffer/ longer curve but still have same eye to eye measurement. If that is correct they should fit but you’d need to confirm that !

Have you got the 190mm shackles in your hilux yet? I’m in nz and would like to see the angle of the shackle with the truck sitting on the ground

Nah I don’t, I just have the regular 2” extended shackles. I will eventually do the 190mm but it will require some more modification to work like a different leaf pack and I’ll have to reroute the handbrake line so I’ve been putting it off a bit

thanks for the indepth vid looking at rg vs parabolic for next mod. how high are those ramps cos even stock should flex more than that

Bob Bob they are probably about 250-300mm, stock would definitely go up one alright but on opposite sides it wouldn’t

@@RyvalCreative yah went back and checked and my ramps are only 230mm. when my lux was stock it would cross up easy on my ramps now its lifted and has an ali tray it lifts a back tyre about 10mm unless i use the sway bar sliders or put 100kg in the back. lifting ifs gives u clearance but tends to reduce flex unless u spend big $$$

They are about 100mm longer than standard hilux leaves from memory and you need 2” lifted springs for it to work well

Caleb Gordon hey mate thanks for watching haven’t put new ones in the rear yet because my current ones are still hanging in there. Would love to put some kings in there but don’t know if I can cop the price tag might go fox instead and no I didn’t have to extend the handbrake cable it has a bit of slack in it still, you can also pull it away from where they mount it to the car for a bit more slack if required

Hey i used roadsafe + 2" shackles but if you want it to work even better get some even longer shackles from phat bars or superior engineering and it will give you a batter shackle angle for more flex. I believe 190mm is the best option.

@@RyvalCreative would you say the standard rg leafs with the roadsafe 2 inch shackles which are 160mm pin to pin would give you an approximate lift of 1 inch in the rear as the standard rg leaves and 210mm pin to pin shackles give a 2 inch lift? Also does the centre pin on your shackles hit on the chassis on full compression

Hey mate I’ve never actually measured when it was standard so can’t say for sure but yes I would approximate it to be a 1” lift. It depends on what weight is on them as well to how much lift you end up with. Also the centre pin will touch on full compression, another reason it’s not an ideal combo.

Just to clarify the pin wouldn’t hit hard enough to cause any damage it just barely touches on full compression

They are standard Colorado Springs, I should have got 2” lifted ones though. I have 2” extended shocks and 2” extended shackles but 190mm shackles would work even better

I’m not too sure on length of RC Colorado Leaves but RG definitely work, you need 2” lift ones to get the benefit of the extra downtravel
