4:40 The “winter melon” is actually the name of the melon, it’s known as dong gua (冬瓜) in Mandarin. Despite its name, it doesn’t have anything to do with winter. It may be quite different from other melons you’re familiar with; winter melon isn’t sweet like typical melons but has a mild, subtle flavor, and it’s not usually eaten raw. It’s often cooked in soups and stews, especially in Chinese cuisine. And, the “winter melon tea(冬瓜茶)” is a traditional Taiwanese beverage made from this fruit. Taiwanese brew it with brown sugar over a long period, creating a sweet and refreshing drink, especially suitable for drinking in the summer. If you’re still in Taiwan, I highly recommend giving it a try. You can easily find it at most Taiwanese beverage shops or even in convenience stores.
