I miss those days when all you would see is mainly EMD's SD40-2's, SD45/SD45T-2, SD50's & 60's, SD9's, GP38-2's, GP40's/GP50's and so on. Even the Switches and Slugs, coupled together and MUing with the rest of the units in a lashup such as SW10, SW1200's, SW1500's, MP1500AC's and so on. High-Hoods and Cabless B-units as well.

These old work horses have so much left to give. So great to see them on the point at track speed on massive manifests. God bless the voice of the 645-V20!

Not bad locos. When first built they were geared for high speed freight service, then regeared for heavy freight service at lower speeds. When you consider, though, that its performance is identical to an SD40-2 while using more fuel than an SD40-2 it's no wonder why the SD40s stuck around longer than the SD45.

Wow, what a great sound! Are these SD45´s still in service in 2017?
@trainknut5 жыл бұрын
I've been searching around various rosters and sites, and so far as I can tell only a small handful of the SD45s are still around... they've been gradually leasing and then scrapping most of their older units since 2007 or thereabouts. 382 is still around, and I know this because it's listed for sale on the MRL site, as for the other two, I honestly couldn't tell you, but it doesn't look good.

How can the first wagon behind the locos fit inside the loading gauge?
@davidwhiting17613 жыл бұрын
The US loading gauge is pretty generous compared to European loading gauges. As loads gradually got taller tunnel floors were lowered and notches were cut into the tunnel entrances to accommodate taller loads.

Never heard a K5LLA on an SD45 either, more likely on an SD70, but it’s EMD so, 🤷🏾♂️
