Same with Lucas - he tolerated criticism from fans and critics, knowing that they either didn't know what they were talking about, or were impossible to please, but he didn't attack them for their opinions. Probably because he made something of value that he was happy with (just like Tolkien) and people like Kennedy and Hidalgo etc (and whoever is running their twitter) will never understand that mindset of creating something from nothing and being proud of it. It's why they make so much mediocre crap and attack fans over it.

It suggests they KNOW full well what responding with a 5.9 million follower account will result in for the people they go after. And all because of a very reasonable request. It just shows whoever they hired for that post does not care in the least about the companies reputation or customer base. What they care about, is people who agree with them. And that will inevitably make them lose money. The business should care about that, but with Disney, you have to wonder if there is anyone left who does.

@Arvenico2 жыл бұрын
I have ALWAYS hated this argument "There are more of us", whether it's used in Rise of Skywalker or in the real world. It's all nice and dandy while it's used by a society standing up against racism, it's all ncie and dandy while "there are more" people who champion democracy and peace and equality than there are fascists, warmongers and racists, but what would happen if the balance ever tilted? What happened in the past when "there were more" people who supported dictatorship, war and/or racial discrimination? It doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum it is being used by. "There are more of us" is such a non-argument, regardless of WHO uses it, precisely because it could be used by ANYONE who happens to be fortunate enough to hold the majority to justify ANYTHING. I could imagine "There are more of us" being shouted during a protest AGAINST the Civil Rights Movement in the US in the 1960s or during a Nazi rally in the 1930s in Germany just as well as I can imagine it being used today to protest for exactly the opposite end of the political spectrum. It is essentially just another way of saying "Might makes right" because you justify your political position not by its moral merits, but by mob rule. Racism isn't wrong because "there are more of us" who SAY that it is wrong, but because it is just MORALLY WRONG to discriminate against someone over something so biologically inconsequential as skin colour or ethnic background, something that nobody has any influence over anyway and that in no way makes a person worth more or less. Democracy isn't right because "there are more of us" voting for democratic parties than there are people voting for populist or anti-democratic parties. It's morally right because it is the least bad and least unfair system of government we have and because it is the only system that can guarantee the full measure of Human Rights (which incidentally aren't right because "there are more" members of the UN who say that it is right than there are countries who dismiss them, they are objectively, morally right because human history has shown us what happens when these rights are ignored). Fascism wasn't suddenly right (ironically, no pun intended) in Germany after 1933 because "there were more" people who either supported or at least did not fight against the Nazi regime than there were Germans who resisted - it was still objectively morally wrong. Full stop. Period. So even in a democracy (or ESPECIALLY in a democracy), which works by majority rule, we should be VERY careful with justifying our values and morality by the mere fortuitous circumstance that "there are more of us". Because if we do that, if THAT is our justification, then so help us if there ever happens to be "more of THEM".

A few years ago, I was working with this girl who loved Harry Potter. During one particularly animated conversation about this, I said "I don't like Potter". Her genuine response was "what did you say about ME?" My initial thought was... well, nothing. But then it hit me. There is a conflation between that which is good and that which is entertaining. If a show/movie/book entertained someone, then it must be good, right? Well, no. Something can be badly made but still be enjoyable (a la almost any "guilt pleasure" you may have), while something can be well made but you didn't find engaging (you've probably already thought of several). It is the height of arrogance to say that one only enjoys that which is of the highest quality and (reductio...) that it must be of the highest quality if they enjoyed it. Once these folks realize they can enjoy crap and the discourse will be in a far better place.
@Avarn3882 жыл бұрын
@allgonne Good points but I think it goes further beyond. One is that these folks see their media as sacred cows and really that’s a bad route to take. It can blind you to realities and in turn can cause cult mentality to take hold. It’s why I tell folks it’s ok to be fans but recognize and evaluate whenever someone brings up a problem. I say evaluate because obviously not all criticisms are valid. Especially if they are based on wrong information. A good example to demonstrate this self awareness is that there’s a book series I love called Cradle. I thought it was excellent and I particularly enjoyed book nine. Until someone told me it was bad and gave some very valid reasons why. And while I could have lashed out after thinking about their criticisms I actually saw where they were coming from. It’s not enough for me to say I fully dislike the book( or the series) but I can’t put it in high regard compared to the other books in the series especially Book 10: my personal favorite. In short, it’s about willing to have a conversation with others and accepting that not everything you like is good and that you can still like content but recognize opposing, valid arguments. In other words, self awareness.

They asked me why I hated the show so much to which I gave thought out responses in which I pointed out the various flaws like black hole size plot holes within the story, the tokenization of characters, how Grant Gustin looked more like a poor mans Andrew Garfield/ Spiderman and not the flash along with many other story and canonical issues. People got really defensive/belligerent and told me that no matter what I said I would not ruin the show for them. The funny part though was by this time a bunch of people entered the conversation, pretty much called me a troll and eventually for civilities sake the conversation thread was closed. Before that happened though I was also accused of being a miserable soul who lived in a basement apartment (despite my informing them I lived in a two story two bed town home in southern CA. Lucasfilm (under Disney) however has a bigger problem than just trying to cancel the 40+ years fandom... Now even the "normies" (just like me) have stopped consuming their content (products)!

You’re one of my favs on this subject, as you just simply cut down to the meat of the matter, with no bs? Big tip of the hat to your editor though, who quite honestly should be employed by Lucasfilm, as they’re x10 more competent that these clowns at Disney? Well done lad!

It’s been the strategy of Disney to blame fanbases when the product underperforms. I was there when they attacked Tron fans when Tron Legacy didn’t live up to their expectations, or when they attack comic fans when John Carter flopped.

It's the first time I've seen these tweets (Mainly because I avoid that site more than a rabied stray dog) but I'm in disbelief how low Disney is going with this. You're a corporation, you shouldn't have options. Just make product so we can get excited about next product.

Remember back in the day when all this bullcrap didnt exist and movies were just made story based. Give us a good STORY. Thats all we want. A good story. I dont CARE about representation...i dont want some irrelevant character jumping up n down saying look at me...im gay...or this color or that. Nobody cares! Give me a good story.

They seem to have forgotten that they are in customer service. If you treat your customers badly they stop buying your shit then you don't make money anymore. Sure they have a hell of a lot of customers right now, but if they keep doing things like this they will lose more and more customers. No company that relies on customers can survive without them.

The best decision Lucasfilm made was to discard all Expanded Universe and brand it Legends. Now we can easily distinguish the old Star Wars we grew up with from this ego-driven bigoted cash-grabbing Disney SW.

Disney's stock is crashing...because they have far too many people at the high end of the company framing everything in a political mindset of performative 'activism', rather than an entertainment for profit, customer-driven mindset. If you turn up at a cinema wanting to watch a good movie that makes you forget about the real world for a while, and then get bombarded with real-world political messaging, you walk out, and you tell your friends not to bother.

Each disney film earned less than the previous one. ryan johnson's triology has been put on the back burner for who knows how long. Their tv shows are struggling to receive positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. There are, in fact, not more of them. That's a lie that they're telling themselves and that lie isn't going to live forever.

One day I was walking my dogs and I overheard a middle school boy standing in a group of boys saying "you smell like gay Asian ass." I thought this was such a great line. So real. So something that a boy would say. And most of all, this was something I never would have thought of on my own. It had character. I put the line in a short screen play. Shortly after that, I gave the screenplay to a young gay LA actor to read. He told me I had to remove that line. I asked him why. He said because it might offend a few people. And all I could think of was "so?" I think this anecdote exemplifies the entire situation with screenplays, rants, comments etc.

That cover looked just...boring. Theres almost no detail on those characters, their uniform, no tags, or patches, or scuffs. Basically there is zero personality in the design other than 'FEMALE, UNNATURAL HAIR COLOUR. FEMALE, BROWN." And that is the cover, that is what is meant to sell you on it.

Wow... Look how far Star Wars has fallen. This used to be our entertainment from our childhoods but now since a massive corporation has taken over it just to make money, they don't care who they talk to. Star Wars was a successful product. Now it's crap, shit even... They are making the OG characters pathetic and their new characters are the ones they want to make more famous. Take Star Wars when it was still under George Lucas. It was entertaining for all fans, now it's divided between the old fans who loved the Original and the prequels and even the Expanded Universe (EU now called Legends). And the other halve push different political agendas more than the UN. What does the colour of your skin, your sexual preferences, or you bloody gender got to do with Star Wars.... Absolutely fuck all. This is a galaxy full of different alien species that all are treated equally. They know they are losing fans from all walks of life, so they try to bring in classic EU characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn to make things better.
