They could have made a show where we followed what Obi and Vader were doing without them ever physically meeting and it could have been great. Vaders struggles early on as a new Sith, his suit, his guilt and anger eating him alive. Obi watching over Luke, dealing with his emotiins after the fall of the Jedi, meeting with Qui Gon. We could have seen the moment Obi learned Anakin survived. Of course thru flashbacks you still could have had them together without messing with canon. All in the name of "DIVERSITY". *** "DIVERSITY"... A child Reva defeated Anakin Skywalker when she was in Kindergarten and just easily escaped his killing spree of the Younglings because she was the first Fully inclusive Black Character in the Star Wars universe, (Black, Gay Lesbian, Female). Even though the biggest character in the entire franchise (James Earl Jones, Darth Vader), is Black. Along with Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu, Finn, and a host of other make-up'd characters. *** "DIVERSITY"...And Adult Reva Survives being stabbed through the Heart with a LightSaber. Again, because she is the first fully inclusive Black Gay Female Character. WTF? How do you get run through the heart with a light saber and appear in the very next scene acting like it's just a scratch? It's so bad it's not even Laughable. It just make you want to through something through the TV. *** "DIVERSITY"... Leia is now 1000x more Powerful and Important than Luke ever was in the Star Wars Universe, because she's female, even though it's been established hundreds of times over that she refused to be trained. Because... Wait for it. simply because She's a girl... Even though Anakin was literally the Chosen one. And Luke faced down Darth Vader multiple times. Including going 2 on 1 against Vader and the Emperor. And was the only one who walked out alive. *** "DIVERSITY"... Child Luke looks like he eats School Paste and Crayons, while Leia is Strapping a Gun on her hip at the ripe old age of 10. *** "DIVERSITY"... the Biggest hero in the entire Clone Wars (Obi Wan Kenobi) is a Complete Pussy and can't do anything, even though he faced off against every major threat the emperor threw at the Jedi including count Dooku twice, and general grievous twice. And he ended up killing Grievous even while his own troops were trying to kill him because of order 66. But in this series, the female spy inside the empire Tala Durith, can defeat entire garrisons of Storm troopers with just a Blaster on her hip, she stopped Darth Vader and all of the Inquisitors at the same time along with hundreds of Storm Troopers with only a single shot. While Obi Wan was running around looking like Jack Sparrow or a Benny Hill Character. *** "DIVERSITY"... For some unknown reason, the fist fully inclusive Black Gay Female Reva not only knew about Leia, but also knew about Luke. So after they went after the 2 as children, why did Darth Vader Stop going after them if they were what brought Obi Wan out of Hiding in the First Place? And how did she she know about the kids when not a single other person in the universe knew. Simple. she's a fully inclusive Character, (Black Gay Female with the Power to Defeat the most powerful Sith Lord in History, the chosen one, when she was just a baby). The Entire series is just so stupid and makes no sense. Especially when the lightsabers start bouncing off of people in the final fight. suddenly they won't cut through anything anymore. They just bounce off of human flesh. But they cut through blast doors 2 episodes earlier. Why doesn't Disney Fire Kathleen Kennedy. I just don't get it. She's purposely destroying the most valuable franchise that ever existed. There's no way any of these decisions are being made by someone who wants Star Wars to Succeed. They're trying to destroy it.

I have to be honest: the idea of Obi Wan getting disillusioned over time, living a sad life after his failure had some real potential that was already explored in some of the SW video games (Jedi Knight II and Kyle Katarn come to mind - Katarn had to "re-learn" his way around the force as well). It gave Obi Wan something that mere fallible humans can connect to. Although I am 100% sure that wasn't what Disney had in mind - they probably rather wanted to show a useless "old white man" as part of THE MESSAGE. Also, the idea of him rediscovering his connection to the force wasn't that bad. And Vader totally owning him during the first duel could be attributed to a sheer horror Obi Wan felt when he saw what Anakin had become and how he failed on Mustafar by not killing him during ROTS. As for the second duel: we all know what Master Kenobi is capable of. He beat Anakin once and I doubt there were many folks around being able to help Vader to further hone his lightsaber skills. But canically speaking, anything else but a total stalemate (kinda like Yoda and Palpatine in ROTS) simply makes no sense. The way Disney played it, he had Vader dead to rights and should have given him the Count Dooku treatment. By not doing so, the writers barely kept the Canon and also furthered the deconstruction of the "useless old white man", just like they did with Luke Skywalker in TLJ. The force is female guys. Live with it. 🤣🤡

It shows the amateur sophomoric minds of the writers and directors, and apparently anyone around them, totally vois of knowledge that would make the "war" in Star Wars believable. One of the greatest lines of Empire Strikes Back is when a junior officer informs the star destroyer commander of rebel ships entering their assigned sector. And he says arrogantly and confidently, "Good, our first catch of the day." He says it like they have repeated this same operation victoriously many times before. It means the writers had some understanding of naval and aerial warfare and strategy. It means they understood the behavior of combat veteran military officers.

Why didn’t Vader kill Reva after she tried to kill him? He didn’t even try to imprison her. Why does Reva plan to kill Luke? To get revenge on Vader? What? By killing the son he doesn’t care about and doesn’t even know exists? Why does the ‘young’ Anakin look so old? Say what you like about Star Trek Picard, but at least they did a more convincing de-ageing on John DeLancie. Why are the light sabres so heavily over-lit? Why does Leia not remember being rescued by Obi Wan in A New Hope, especially as she hears Luke refer to him as Ben? Why is it that when Vader’s helmet gets split, it looks like the helmet is built all in one piece when Vader’s isn’t in one piece? How does Kenobi get across the galaxy so quickly in order to save Luke? Why did they not use The Imperial March until right at the end, and when they did use it it seemed to sound clunky and inferior to the movie version of the tune? How did they manage to make the Emperor look like he’s not being played by Ian McDiarmid, even though he is being played by Ian McDiarmid? Why does Obi Wan decide, from episode 2, that the best way to avoid being discovered as a Jedi is to wear robes that look almost exactly like Jedi robes? Why did they bother to even make this show? Doing prequels is a dangerous thing. It’s too easy to accidentally cause continuity issues and plot holes. Lucas did the same thing with the prequel movies, but at least they were still fun so we could forgive him. Messing with beloved character is also a mistake. Mandalorian worked. Rogue One worked. The main reason is because they focused on new characters with no audience preconceptions of how they should be presented. But mess with our favourites from the past? It's because he is a Jedi through and through, the entire plot of the series up until the point of that battle is Obi-Wan guilt tripping on his way to the dark side. He isn't feeling guilty that he couldn't kill Anakin Skywalker, in fact he believed he did. But his guilt goes deeper into that of failing his master Quigon in terms of training the chosen one. And then ending up causing the fall of the Republic and the Jedi Order indirectly through his failure. He cannot kill Anakin because he is a Jedi, the Jedi he should be unlike Anakin who kills Doku. Even the moment of supposedly killing Darth Maul, the phrasing used by the Jedi were destroyed, not killed, the sith entity was destroyed, but not killed. On the minds of the Jedi Order it makes no difference. But to the Jedi killing is taking the life of another when mercy is an option. Darth Vader is both making it clear that he killed Anakin, not Obi-Wan, which gives Obi-Wan some peace, but ultimately that Anakins legacy lives on on his children is the main point there. When Obi-Wan leaves Darth Vader again, he does it because his objective was never to kill anyone, but to confront his darkness. He could not kill Darth Vader and still accomplish this. He is a Jedi and killing Anakin is not the Jedi way. When Master Windu ordered Anakin to kill Darth Sidious, it was not Master Windu's Jedi side which was talking but his dark side. He was a special case of dark and light, unlike the Grey Jedi, his resolve was not subject to the will of the force, but his ideology. Anakin broke over this command and his desire to save Padme. It all triggered when he killed Doku, "I am not the Jedi I am supposed to be." But Obi-Wan Kenobi was, he couldn't have killed Doku. That is the point. He couldn't kill Darth Vader even if it was why he had come. Unless it happened in a defense strike. Like the highground leg dismemberment, but he didn't strike a killing blow. Or as Batman would have put it, "I am not going to kill you, but that doesn't mean that I have to save you!" So obviously you don't get the very basic concept of the Jedi's no killing policy. War is not why they are there. It's the very problem Yoda has with the clones. In fact the entire point of the chosen one and episode 6 is that the reason why Anakin is the chosen one is that he destroyed the sith master, and on turn kept Like from killing anyone, and instead caused his own death by throwing Palpatine into his death while being electrocuted. And as such brought balance to the force, with his death, asking Luke to NOT save him, because he already did. Yada yada. Return of the Jedi is a dual meaning, as you know. But the point was that it was achieved by no Jedi killing Sith. The point of bye Darth is two things 1: to establish why Obi-Wan calls him 'Darth' on a new hope. And 2: To acknowledge that Darth Vader is not Anakin Skywalker, and that Darth Vader Killed Anakin Skywalker... From a certain point of view. Basically there is no way Any match between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dart Vader would ever end up with Obi-Wan Kenobi killing Darth Vader in cold blood or for convenience of getting rid of a Sith. The entire point has always been that Luke or Leia can fulfill the prophecy. And defeat the sith, by other means than the light saber. Obi-Wan Kenobi clearly believe that him killing Darth Vader will accomplish nothing. Except his own ruin. Therein lies a bit of the arrogance the Jedi are accused of. From the Jedi's point of view, not killing Darth Vader is not a mistake, their perspective goes beyond the act of killing the Sith. As Obi Wan Kenobi puts it, "your desire to win blinds you", "untill you overcome it, a padawan you still will be". It's clearly not a matter about winning vs the Sith at all cost for the Jedi, the method of accomplishment is important for the metric of success. So we as an audience think o the greater good, but that is not the way of the Jedi.

@@zacelyokai9137 I 100% disagree with your sentiment, The entire point of the OT was to destroy the empire, or rather prevent being destroyed by the empire, and pave the way for democracy. This is a goal for the rebellion, but not the heroes journey Luke Skywalker sets out on. It's ultimately a story of growing up, and becoming an adult. Choices, and consequences. The entire title of the return of the Jedi, is exactly to that of the return of Anakin Skywalker, and that's why the meeting with Obi-Wan Kenobi is more substantial than kill or be killed. The entire point of the confrontation is a battle of idealism, not a battle of absolute good and evil. In my mind you appear to have missed this pivotal plot point, and arrive at a different conclusion. I could have forgiven it a bit more if they were trying to tell her story only for her to die in the end. I think that would have made more sense. How can Disney get Star Wars so wrong, it practically writes itself. You have the setting, the characters, the lore and the canon. There's no problem introducing new character/lore/settings provided that they make sense i.e fits the pre established material or at the very least is thoroughly explained in relation to pre established canon like knights of the old republic. Otherwise you just wind up with plot holes, contrivances for contrivances sakes and all you wind up doing is breaking immersion. I always thought of star wars as a tapestry with each thread being a continuation and complementing the next. Don't know what happened in the last decade to change all this whether its some new fangled story telling style or placing themes over coherence but its not working for me anymore. Don't get me there having been some real gems like mando, rogue one, the clone wars animated series at its iterations like rebels and the bad batch but the duds are just to much. I feel there just to much of a disconnect between me and these new creators and I'm beginning to see the same trends in other franchises under the mouse's umbrella, pretty bleak. But smart writing could have seen Kenobi trying to Robin Hood his way through a series, mis-directing and evading the inquisitors, (perhaps even Vader, again if the key jangling is needed of just an appearance), taking dodgy jobs in space ports & cantinas to get info on the inquisitors mission and whereabouts (its a whole planet, after all), communing with Qui-Gon for advice/guidance, or even Yoda, to know how to allow Qui-Gon to cross over (hell there's a whole episodes worth of story potential just in that). The true redemption arc would be a willing submission to justice, some expression of remorse, and then change demonstrated over time. Obi-Wan Kenobi: A canon-breaking Disney+ Star Wars cash grabbing "story" Starring the laziest written villain, stereotypical angry black woman, who don't need no man, making plans that are either complete reaches in logic, or are just pulled straight out of her ass, that gets "redeemed" by the end of the story. A story where a youngling survived Operation Knight fall, got stabbed by Lord Vader, become an Imperial Inquisitor, sneak attacked the Grand Inquisitor, a former Jedi Temple Guard who's species is known for their hypersensitive hearing, and at minimum, had the rank of a Jedi Knight. After hilariously losing to Darth Vader, getting stabbed AGAIN, she finds the idiotic holo-message of Bail mentioning Owen and "The Children", possibly knowing who they truly are, despite only a handful of people even knowing. Reeeva heading to Tattooine to kill Luke for some fucking reason, Beru not making any goddamn sense, shenanigans ensue, resulting in 3rd Sista standing over an innocent child who did dick-all in this show, wanting to kill him apparently to avenge her slain family, even though, she seemed to be A-okay working with the people who keep their corpses like taxidermy trophies. But all is forgiven, because she "SaVeD" Luke, via not killing him. Darth Reva then cried to Obi-Wan, viewing herself as a failure and no better than Darth Vader, then Kenobi spat in the face of anyone with an iota of moral fiber and an IQ above negative one hundred by saying she didn't fail her family, and she's nothing like Darth Vader. The whole Leia-knowing-Obi-wan-Kenobi plot hole is only slapped with a sticker saying "No one must know, or it could endanger us both". To those who say Star Wars is dead, you're wrong. Star Wars was brutally raped and killed, resurrected with Sith Alchemy, beaten within an inch of it's undead life, and mutilated beyond recognition. Kathleen Kennedy can go fuck herself with Rey and Reva's lightsaber for all I care. HOW TO WRITE DISNEY STAR WARS in a nutshell: (1) Take a Great classic character; (2) Worsen them (like reduce their skills/greatness and/or accomplishments); (3) Reassign their Greatness to a new character (who should also be even Greater); (4) Use same plot points as original movies with the New & Greater characters. And, of course, the New Character must be female/intersectional, because, you know, the force is female or whatever. Examples: Rey kills Palpatine, not Annakin/Luke; Reva teaches Vader how to track the Millennium Falcon; Reva can easily change from the dark side, unlike Vader; Kid Leia inspires Obi Wan how to commune with Qui Gon (I saw that coming in the first episode), Yoda doesn't teach him; the list goes ON AND ON. The worse thing is simply that these New Characters are poorly written into scripts filled with mind-numbing plot holes. A simple way to think of it: When watching Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars, Remember the "BUT FOR RULE." It goes like this: "But for [NEW CHARACTER], [OLD CHARACTER] would have failed." Perhaps "THE RULE OF BUT FOR" is a better name in the context of Star Wars.

I've since found out it was basically ripped off from Rebels, but I haven't actually watched that, so originally I thought it was a stroke of genius with the way they mixed Hayden's voice with the AI James Earl Jones voice. If you ignore most of everything else in the series and imagine that scenario as one where that was when Obi Wan actually found out Vader was Anakin, it really would have elevated that scene to a whole new level. There were a couple of other awesome scenes from that fight as well, but it was all hamstrung by the insanely bad writing leading up to that confrontation. Why do people feel the need to pay Disney to be fed a diet of watery shit when the alternative is (in the internet and express-delivery age, no less) the entire world's history of entertainment... Why Disney, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, BBC? Why sit passively waiting to be fed garbage, when its barely any effort to just open your eyes to the world...

I think the main mistake with 2049 was basing the story around a replicant instead of harrison ford, by making a character with no flaws or personality it was cool without any emotion, I think it would have been cool to start the film with harrison in exile with his dog then being called back into the city like Logan, it would have been higher stakes with his old age in a more advanced world, instead we get blade runner crystal skull where hes never quite in his movie and never quite passes the mantle so it just kind of makes you miss what it was.

I could go on about numerous other plot holes, such as: "Obi Wan we can't fly you and Leia to Alderaan as we only have this one ship to get the refugees out of here." Ship turns out to have a shuttle, which in turn has its own shuttle (all FTL capable and all able to avoid a star destroyer). Not to mention that said star destroyer crew don't think to blockade the ONE launch bay. 😆 Yes, the good guys always need a way out - but it's got to be able to suspend disbelief.

Disney** first off, not starwars, to any genuine fan of lucasfilm and starwars, it’s called Lucasfilm, not Disneyfilm, Disney went off the tracks when they bought George’s baby and that’s that. The biggest mistake George ever made was letting Disney make a dumpster fire out of his masterpiece. Same with Pirates, should’ve stopped at 3 or even 2. Greed and politics don’t belong in any cinema project.

You know, I could forgive the violation in continuity if they just presented a coherent and well portrayed story. If they wanted to make Reva a central part of the story, they should have put her and Obi-Wan together through most of the episodes. She could have been escorting him to Vader while both were pursued by bounty hunters or some such. Then have a scene where Obi-Wan saves her, which starts to change her heart. This would create a real audience connection to her because of our love for Obi-Wan. In the end, It’s Reva who faces off against Vader (to preserve the continuity) so that Obi-Wan can escape. Reva (Obi-Wan’s now redeeming-semi-padawan) manages to survive because of Obi-Wan’s influence. Boom, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Big fan of your rants and news reports. Keep it up!

Nice story and I agree, continuity is important but a good, well thought out plot, quality actors and a desire to uphold the IP's legacy is more important. Something that Disney can do but chose not to.

You know, a small stakes, Nancy Drew type adventure could actually work for establishing how Leia developed into the competent, strong willed leader/rebel we meet in a new hope. Maybe she learns of the evil of the empire and her adoptive fathers role in aiding the resistance. Maybe Bale wanted to keep her out of it, but she is a Skywalker, of course she's going to want in. I'm fine with making her a less reluctant hero than Luke. She grew up as Royalty and Bail is a wise and benevolent leader who would have instilled the value of public service in her. But no, let's make her an insufferable little know it all that was perfect and born to lead from birth.🤦♂️

That's the best thing to do. I decided a while ago that all this Disney Star Wars junk was just that - junk. It's not from George Lucas and it's also not from anyone who gives a damn about Star Wars. Therefore it isn't really the same Star Wars that we grew up loving. It's just a giant cash grab by a humongous, soulless corporation that makes the Empire look like some pretty okay dudes. They'll never make me lose my love for Star Wars because I see through what they're doing and so do a lot of other fans who aren't willing to accept trash and say, "Thank you, can I have some more, Mr. Mouse?"
