Funny enough this episode is not the first chapter of the manga nor the first volume of the LN. This is straight up from Volume 4 of the Light novel that is not even yet adapted in the Manga. The series normally starts from his already being Isekaid and this episode is a callback to his normal world life from Nishino's perspective. I think It was a good choice from the Studio to do it like this though. Showing his normal world life first made a good starter

On one hand, yes, it's good to show how he was in previous life, but as standalone experience, it really doesn't fit the tone of the whole series. My friend almost gave up after episode 1 because to him it was "neither serious nor funny"

I'm still a bit conflicted about the title. I really liked what the web novel was translated as much better. It was: "To Be A Power In The Shadows", Which I feel explains what he wants a lot better.

The novel explained Cid was killed by a legit magical truck Because he was naked in a forest, banging his head against a tree, trying to unlock magical powers, then he felt a source of magic and ran towards it, finding himself head on on the truck's way So he was reborn knowing how to feel magic Cid Kagenou = Batman + Final Boss + Waifu Army

I like to suggest a new anime series for you to react to and it's called Akiba Maid War. If you love Lyco Reco, this anime is the maid cafe version of it and it's more brutal. Maid cafe girls with all kind of weapons just trying to kill each other for the honor of their respective maid cafes in Akihabara. Just don't let all the cuteness fool you😷😁😷

This MC has a lot of knowledge and is trained in many different things, like martial arts and fine arts, piano. That is why the MC forgets Nishino's name because to him she was an NPC. However, we dont see Nishino anymore in the anime (at least according to the novels). This story borrows alot from other anime, the Weights that Rock Lee wears in Naruto, the names of the 7 shadows, Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc are similar to the Overlord maids, Yuri Alpha, Lupis Beta, Narberal Gamma, etc. And of course SLIMES.

He doesn't feel like to love or lust because his motivation towards becoming eminence in shadow are far stronger than anything like lust and romantic feelings.
