Thank you Justin, Matt, and Maximillian for this episode. On the topic of Street Fighter 3, all of what you gentlemen said regarding this game is just Too TRUE! When I was running tournaments back in the late 90s, the SF3 sign up sheet would be pretty sparse (mostly myself and another participants) while the SFA2 sign up were two and three pages long most weekends, heck I even got ppl to sign up for a Mace The Dark Age tournament but just couldn't get ppl to compete in SF3. Most ppl had 0 or negative interest in playing SF3 because it was such a different game from what ppl had grown accustom to with all of the Street Fighter2 variations and Alpha series. As SF6 goes, the only Neo Shadaloo character that I really want to see is Baba Mwalimu (big fan of Gorilla Grodd). Other than that I will be more than happy to see the SF story move past that chapter. Looking forward to the next episode in this series.

32:28 Akira’s stage has this. Edge and Gon react in three different ways depending on the fighters and the outcome of the fight. If neither character is Akira, they merely spectate with little reaction. If Akira is a fighter and wins a round, they give mad cheers, but if she loses, they are seriously disappointed. Mirror match Akira they always back the winning Akira (obviously the loser is not their Akira). Love that touch.
@Emezie2 жыл бұрын
FYI, SF5 actually does have some of that fluff they talk about. Certain stages have background characters that only react to certain people. Like the Shadaloo Air Base...the characters salute when any of the 4 Kings win matches. I think Dhalsim's wife and child cheer for him in the India stage, too. People are short changing some of the effort that SF5 put into the small details. Remember the cool stage transitions on the sides of the stages? Costume codes that alter costumes, sometimes in huge ways?

While not at an all-time high, the hype surrounding the genre as a whole is hitting a fever pitch like we haven't seen since the 90s. There are more developers putting out FGs than ever, there are hugely popular indie fighters, if we just had a resurgence in M.U.G.E.N. output it would be a genuine fighting game renaissance. On the whole, I think people at large are aware of how different one game is from another, and (perhaps most importantly) Capcom has had enough stinkers/underwhelming day-one releases that the Era of "Capcom snobbery" is pretty much over.

37:12 I totally agree that SF6 is pushing the character redesigns further (and I love it), but saying that redesigns were "few and far between" in SF5 is doing it a massive disservice. The changes admittedly vary in scale from "has a new hat!!" to "is the same character in name only", but up until Season 5 which played it disappointingly safe, the vast majority of returning characters were redesigned: Ken, Cammy, Dhalsim, Vega, M. Bison, Nash, Birdie, R. Mika, Karin, Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, Urien, Akuma, Sakura, Blanka, Cody, Sagat, Kage (vs Evil Ryu), E. Honda, Poison, Lucia (vs her FF3 design), Seth, Luke (assuming they designed the SF6 version first). That's not even counting the raft of background character redesigns for the Shadaloo site...

All I want from Street Fighter 6's story mode is for Akuma to be the big bad, or at least have a genuine impact on the plot again. It's nuts to me that they made one of the most bad ass video game characters ever, and proceeded to do basically nothing with him for over 20 years. Especially with Ryu seeming to be at the end of his arc, and Ken looking like he's in a real crisis situation of some kind, now would be the perfect time to have Akuma back and actually matter.

After a bit of thought I came to a conclusion, that damage scaling after a perfect parry may have similarities with scaling after crush counters, guard breaks and v-trigger activations from SFV. You get an advantage in form of ultra slo mo, when you just casually pressing parry buttons and getting lucky 3f window hit of perfect parry, it's not skill based - that's my point. Aaaand because it's a random occurence, that just gives you like free punish with almost anything you want, the scaling is a must, or it would be like you get PP in a moment that gives you enough super meter for CA, restores your drive gauge and you do a punish combo utilizing OD-moves with wallbounce for 60-70% damage - that's just OP. Talking about comeback mechanics. There's no scaling after normal parry, because it has recovery, and it's harder to punish moves after you exit it, and as far as I noticed, you can act immediately after perfect parry.
@prismshock2 жыл бұрын
I think sf6 has the right balance between parries. Before it was announced I had hoped they brought parries back, but removed air parries and give some cost to using regular parries. I had suggested grey health damage, but what they did with it based on Ryu's vskill and Alex's Vtrigger is even better because it's committal (can't easily be OS'd).

Yes, I'm so tired of revisionist history claiming 3rd Strike was always considered "popular" and a peak when all of SF3 flopped compared to Alpha 3. It was received poorly, 3S cabs were barely around and even when they were the game was $1 or more to play. Super expensive at the time. Only tournament players were really going hard at it. Justin and Daigo revived 3S in the 00s. People don't want to admit it. Alpha series and the Vs games had much more of a draw to the normal arcade goer. Honestly would love an Alpha series or CPS2 discussion for an episode. Alpha 2/3 were THE SF of most mid 90's kids childhoods if they were part of the generation after Hyper Fighting/ST.

Honestly, I didn't know that SF3 even existed. I was a fighting game fan, but there wasn't really a big arcade scene where I grew up. And of all my friends, only one had a Dreamcast, but we only ever played MvC 1 and 2. Now with the knowledge that the game actually existed, I do remember that he did own SF3. But we never played it. I only finally played it when the Anniversary Collection came out on PS2. But even then I didn't really care for it much. I would say like most people, I didn't really get into it until the Online Edition came out.

@@nephjd88 definitely. I would say most people got ahold of 3S via the PS2 Anniversary collection. Then Online Edition. I would count playing 3S on GGPO in 2009/2010 but the population was leagues smaller than current Fightcade 2.

@@666slateran666 Like it was said, it wasn't embraced by even the "fgc" fully until post 2004. If you were around back then, you'd know people would rather have tournaments for ST, Alpha2/3, or CvS2 over 3S. 3S wasn't poppin in America (unless you were in So Cal or a random CF tourney). Other than Justin honestly you gotta credit Denjin Ranbats and GGPO afterwards. They put the game on their back. 2004 is still 5 years after release and in the middle of the Dark Age. That shit was at side game for 5+ years. That's a dead game, my guy. You must not remember how much people shat on SF3 or anything not ST/Alpha/MvC2/CvS2 until 2007. Even worse if you were a non-Capcom player.
