You got a bargain on those wheels! I'm putting together a basic retro mtb at the minute and just bought a 1993 Trek suspension for £50. I didn't check up on it beforehand, thinking there would be something worth using. It had Deore LX hubs and derailleurs, Alvio V-brakes and Dia Compe brake levers. I was well pleased with myself. Lol
@MonkeyShred3 жыл бұрын
A 1993 Trek Suspension? The full suspension 9000 series with the pogo stick elastomers near the BB? Those things look awesome and at £50 that would be a bargain even without original parts!

Is it possible to put V brake pads to these brakes? I think I see them on front calipers.
@MonkeyShred Жыл бұрын
You’ll have to match the type. Smooth post or threaded.

@@MonkeyShred Which one did you use?

Hi, I was wondering if those hubs take a 8-10 speed cassette and is the freebody uniglide or hyperglide? Thanks.
@MonkeyShred4 жыл бұрын
That freehub is HG. Some 7 speed hubs will accept an 8-10. I've used an STX hub before which came in 7/8 speed and put a 10 speed cassette on but I don't remember the length of the freehub to check.
@rafaeln73194 жыл бұрын
@@MonkeyShred Thanks man. Seems that some were 7/8 speed and some could go up to 10 speed. Guess I will find out once I get myself a wheel set with those hubs. Thanks. Nice build.

nice built! but i prefer the last setup though..
@Gjldo6 жыл бұрын
with 550 u can get away using brake levers and thumbies mt-62 from deore II, since this was the catalog alternative if you didn't want the sti version, the whole 550 was in fact a recolored deore II set updated with sti tecnology
@peppermintpig9746 жыл бұрын
Was guessing that was either Exage or Deore and it's Deore hubs! The fit with the Tektro hanger isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. You got a really nice crankset there. Looks hardly used. Well, now we don't both have slicked out DBs anymore!
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
The person I bought it off claimed it had done less than 50 miles! Also looking at a 91 Deore LX advert... the M060 shifters were the correct ones to pair with the M550 everything else. Bonus! Ah but I still have the slick wheelset ;) You know there's another bike for them just waiting for parts...
@peppermintpig9746 жыл бұрын
Most of my parts just came today for my DB upgrade. Will send you pictures. Do you have a reddit account or email I can send things to?

You could fire them over on Instaspam / Twittersphere or Faceballs. I'm probably most active on Insta

@@MonkeyShred well it's been 4 years, I wonder what you've switched it up to now? 😉 anyway, I got here because of the (awesome) m550 groupset, I've recently come to appreciate the super quality of early 90's Shimano VIA Japan stuff (vs modern,) since I was given a 91 mongoose Rockadile with (most of) the m550 groupset. I have the cantis, the crankset and the FD and RD and the Deore LX combo shifter n brake, but the hubs are exage and not LX for some reason? Well it was free (from a neighbors garage clear out, (along with a Giant Roam 3 disc, without rear wheel) first I was gonna just Yank the groupset, but now I'm attempting restoring it to riding condition. You inspired me...

Well done work,as always. I have a question: I don't know the brand of a mtb frame. It uses the rear brake housing inside the top tube. Seat stays,wishbone type and the rear bosses only accepts u brakes. Deore XT group and 7 speed cassete. Markings from 89 to 91. Can you help me? Thanks. M-732 group.
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, erm, not really sure on that one! The groupset would have been used on a few bikes I'd imagine but the internal routing would stand out. Are there any serial numbers on the bike?
@flaviofariasjunior22546 жыл бұрын
MonkeyShred oh its serial#D or O 403 L T9005. Thanks for your reply. It uses a Shimano Biopace crankset. A Shimano sealed bb don't fit on the shell. It uses a 3 piece cup and axel. Tange MTB Double butted tubes.

@MonkeyShred and I got some shark points on the crackset and cassete biggest cog, any idea of compatible and interchangeable parts? I got the CN-HG40, 7 speeds, went to shimano store and they said that it is compatible, will keep in mind next time.

I don't suppose you did a video of the shifter repair/rebuild? I have one the same I'm struggling with and not sure how to proceed after flooding with wd40 failed to do the trick...
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
I didn't I'm afraid. I wasted an hour at work doing it. My main problem was the spring inside can be seated just fine without any tension but then the shifters won't work. Getting the whole thing together while keeping the tension was the fiddly bit.
@tonyfourdogs36396 жыл бұрын
MonkeyShred thanks for your reply. I spent another 30 mins on mine today but I can't figure out why it doesn't work. The pawl moves freely but the lever won't catch the first notch. If I move the barrel manually I can move up the gears, but pulling the trigger skips all the way back in one sweep. Ah well...
@MonkeyShred6 жыл бұрын
If worst comes to worst, you can find the M050/060 pods on eBay to replace. I did have some pictures of the internals somewhere but I can't find them at the moment. I need to refresh my mind how that shifter works
@tonyfourdogs36396 жыл бұрын
MonkeyShred hmm I did have a look on eBay but don't much fancy spending 20 quid for a Raleigh dynatech (not the titanium one). Might have to just put any old 7 speeds on for now
