That's not true because China is "Socialist" which means home ownership is a right for ALL and not only the people who have money. This is why the CPC is intentionally popping the real estate bubble. Most Singaporeans don’t understand how fast and efficient it is to get to Shenzhen/Guangdong from HK. One can cross the border by Private Car/Subway/High-Speed Rail/Traditional Rail/Ferry/Bus with a total of 13 border-crossing checkpoints. There are virtually ZERO TRAFFIC JAMS (except for the Shenzhen Bay crossing) and scanning the ID card (home return permit) takes less than 5 seconds to process. No passport required (for HKSAR PRs). In short, it makes the crossing from SG to JB sound so convoluted and complicated (which it is). If there are no traffic jams at the causeway, what do you think would happen to retail and real estate in SG? Well, that scenario is already playing out in HK. The only real deterrent from Singaporeans living and spending in JB is the traffic jams and the perceived lack of safety. SZ from HK does not suffer from either of those issues.

The situation in Hong Kong and Mainland is very similar to Sinagapore and JB. I am starting to think Sg Govt through temasek might be building retirement homes at Iskandar. We will retire in JB while leaving the space for Sg government to import foreign talent to grow the economy.

Just like people who makes their money in New York but they don’t retire in New York. Why do Hong Konger think they should retire in one of the most fast pace and expensive cities in the world?
@skylinrg6 күн бұрын
I found that to be very cultural of this part of the world, being very attached to the "home town". As a European migrant in HK, I can't really relate.
@scorpio2520006 күн бұрын
@@skylinrg yes Hong Kong has been a very independently developed place so the people are afraid of leaving and of the mainland. Especially the older generations who still think China is corrupt, backward, immoral, and unsafe.

I want to count every penny, even though I don't have to do so? Why? Money management is crucial regardless of your state and the state of the economy. Anything less, in my mind, is taking things for granted and irresponsibility.

Her meaning of "count" is easiness of decision to spend, not book keeping on money spent.

For the last part, when Mandy said that spending without using a calculator makes her happier, rather than looking what is left then only spend is spelling out disaster.

I definitely don't spend HK$500 a day. If she included rent, utilities and transport that figure is accurate but for daily expenses like food and entertainment then she's out of control financially.
