Welcome back!
As I’ve said on the last vlog, I’ve come to realize that I’m not fast food. I’m more like a relaxing casual intimate dinner with close friends.
This is why I’ve introduced these monthly slow home vlogs. To share and express creativity. To inspire you on a deeper level. To connect with you beyond a traditional how to video.
This week we visit BR Home in SoHo and share a little poem with you. Next week I explore each zodiac sign’s interior design style. Thank you to everyone that contributed to this poll. It was fun to read your responses!
As you may have noticed I'm injecting more of my personal creativity in the videos. I hope it’s noticeable anyway! I’m easing into it ( this monthly vlog is one way). When I started the channel, I was more off the cuff-meaning I just went with it. Then I started diving into sharing and teaching design principals. I realized I love teaching you so much; however, I started to become fearful about showing too much of my life on the channel. All the KZbin gurus say to get to the point, that people don't care about you. This felt too transactional for me, someone that wants to create a community and make friends and so I must do things my own way. As an artist I love to question things, to discover new ways of doing things-to infuse what I create with pieces of me. I would love nothing more than to inspire you to do the same in your home.
The community created here is very important to me. While we’ve got 10K followers this week, actually yesterday 🥹, I still feel a sense of community in the comments. You are there and I am here yet we can still connect. Isn’t it great?? This is why I’m excited to bring back Fix My Home in October. Stay tuned for the dates.

The first part of this had me mesmerized. When you said “this house is teaching me about home” was very moving. I felt that, and love that for you. “Home” for me was always where my Mom was, which was the house I grew up in, and then her apartment when she got older. “She” was home. I thought I’d be sad about her leaving the house, but when we got her moved in and all of her things were in place, I felt like I was home. So home for me = people and surroundings I love. Your poem made me cry. It is so beautiful and I can relate to it. After years of living in a bad situation, I finally have my own cottage that I am making my HOME. I don't have a lot of money, but that only makes me more creative and I finally have the freedom and peace I have been longing for (and room to dance because I am finally feeling joyful after years of pain and sadness). Home is SO much more that four walls. It hold space for us to be free and joyful,creative and artistic, peaceful and happy and to come into who we are meant to be. I love your slow vlog, Christina 💛 Your poem about what creating a true home really means for your inner development (as a springboard to being fully yourself and living life to its full potential) definitely resonates… thank you so much for sharing it! Wow, 45 moves sound exhausting. No wonder you feel creative at CS - your life force energy is not wasted on seeking out a new place (or worrying about losing the current place/logistics of moving, etc.). Also with Jerry there, the life force energy you’d otherwise spend seeking your one-and-only comes back to you to use in other creative ways that evolve who you are and what you can bring to the world. I feel your exhale. I moved 9 times in childhood (three countries), then another 11 times in adulthood, all the while being a homebody at heart, yearning for the house carousel to stop. I must say, some of the places I lived in felt a whole lot more like home once my beloved Simon entered my life, but it was not until we found our current place (which has a wonderful ‘secret sauce’ vibe that we’ve amplified) that I started to ‘dance’ with my evolution and creativity like never before. Now that I have finally stopped the 'house carousel' as you put it (great analogy btw), I can see that I am SUCH a homie body :D I most likely always was but didn't stand still long enough to notice it. I found my sanctuary, my happy place when I stopped decorating for other people, wish I would not have had to go through that phase, but wow, when I left was I liberated and it felt fantastic! I enjoyed the BR collection, unfortunately it’s way, way out of my budget. But that’s okay, I usually start at the top and work my way down anyway. 😂 Last winter I wanted a gallery wall but looked at the prices for some new art, yikes! I ended up shopping my house, and painted some frames, took a lot of time shuffling things around but the whole project cost me $3.00 for a can of paint and I love it. 😊

Home = stability. A place that while it may get repainted and refreshed and enhanced and even remodeled, yet it remains the same. It remains, it is home. I am almost 56 and have lived in my childhood home, the same house for all of college, our first apartment, our mobile home, and two more houses. We've been in our current house almost 21 years. @@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio I fell silent hearing about you having moved 45 times. I so hope your countryhouse will be a longer lasting home for you and Jerry. As in "home" what it means to you! I live almost 28 years in my small apartment. For a very long time I didn't feel at home, it took 15 years. But for personal reasons I couldn't move. Now I totally feel at home in this apartment. And I love to make it a beautiful place again. Like you said: not the size matters, but that you can make it the place where you want to be of all places. My book consists of 40 dyptychs, with art and poetry. It's about being vulnerable and secure at the same time. Life themes and religious themes. The poems are short, the artworks are abstract: monotypes and drawings with ecoline, colorful. It is in Dutch. I loved that knitted wall sculpture! LOL at your comment of wanting to make it, but not knowing how to knit. Greetings from Huizen (isn't it funny, the name of my town means "houses". Not very original, but very suitable for someone with a passion for interior design...)

Congratulations-your books sounds lovely. This is quite an accomplishment! Wow! Your town name! It was meant to be I think. My sur name before marriage was Medina. It’s Spanish and means “city” (same in Arabic and Hebrew). I thought it was interesting that I ended up working in real estate development in NYC because of this. Like it was meant to be in some way. On another note, I am so happy to see you finding your way. I enjoy seeing your home evolve. You’re making a beautiful home and expressing your creativity. I learned some time ago that the name of my town Huizen/Houses originates in the fact that many centuries ago in this place the first houses of stone were build in The Netherlands, as before all houses were made of wood or something. Yes, love to work in my home. Some more projects to do. Hope my budget will last long enough.

Lol I was nervous about reading it, "Is this weird??" kept going through my head but I did it anyway :D Artifacts from travels are so special. I feel like they bring us right back to the place where we found them. I have a little sachet from a small, very rustic herbal apothecary in Bologna, Italy that I keep on my desk. It's 24 years old! Wow how did that happen?! Actual thought as I type this! I love it. It no longer has the sweet spicy amber fragrance but when I hold it I am brought back to a very young version of me on one of my first explorations.

Hi Christina just wanted to share a tip from a viewers perspective. Love your channel and all you do but have a suggestion. Almost all of the home interior you tubers post on the same day- Sunday and we go from nothing to watch to too much on our Sundays when we are puttering and finishing up our weekend projects. Saturday mornings are bone dry for content. I feel like you could use that niche to your advantage by posting Sat.. and would prob get more hits too. I really want your channel to grow and also I need something to inspire me Sat morns when I start my weekend projects.

Thank you Naomi and your point is totally valid! I remember my home design journey before starting the channel, back when I was looking for design inspiration. Everything is in Sunday! I’ve been thinking about the posting schedule A LOT, including thinking about if/when I could actually add a second video each week. Thinking that one should be pure inspiration and/or trips thrifting for inspo-something I could pull off over night. Something that would not take 8-10 hours of filing and editing. Let me continue to think on this and see if I can make it happen. It’s been on my mind and so I really appreciate you bringing it up.

I relate! I have moved a fair amount as well but we are about to buy our first townhome. I want to really dig deep to make sure we turn into a “home” that truly reflects us, instead of settling for what’s easy or typical. We want to stay for a while but it’s hard to imagine staying in one place for a long time! I get antsy 🫣

Yes I know that feeling!!!! Here's what I say, and I think you already have this, but I'll say it anyway. Make it yours--make it a place that inspires you and you just might be surprised. It's like the home becomes part of you. I didn't have this experience before because of the moving around, but now I can't imagine going back to that. You will make it amazing, follow your heart babe. You will do great I know it! XOCD
