They made that a closet and that's why the outlet was in there, lol. And that's why it was so tall too. You can tell by the frame. Also, there's a lot of themes you could do with the blue bathroom... AND, you could always paint the cupboards...

For the old cabinet latches, you can use a razor blade to cut around the screws, and peel the paint off! Then you can put them in a crock pot for a few hours, and it will fully loosen the paint. I bet they have some beautiful 1920s designs under all those layers!
@Ruth786202 ай бұрын
I thought that. They're really cute little cupboard locks and if they're original they'll be gorgeous. The paint will be pretty easy to remove and then they'll work too.
@lories80767 ай бұрын
It looks like your bathroom was updated in the 1950s. You should put up some wonderful peal and stick wallpaper and it would look great. You should also think about stripping the paint on your cabinets knobs because I'm sure they are brass and would look amazing if the paint was removed! It's not hard to do but would be beautiful when done!!!!! Just my two cents worth. Love your place and your videos!!!

Moving to NYC soon, and seeing your videos is reminding me a lot of when I grew up in Europe. You get used to living in old buildings with character that you have to add your own sense of design to. The only thing with this move is that it includes my wife and our two adorable little children. I hope they’re able to adjust to this. I’ll leave this comment by saying this… when I was 11 years old we moved, for the second time, to Germany. My father was in the military and we lived on an American military village that had been around since before WWII. Our apartment was 4 bedrooms, but everything was old and outdated. When we walked in to see it, my mom cried in front of me for the first time in my life. But she turned that place into the most charming and warm home we’d ever had in our lives, so much so that when we left she cried for the opposite reason. It’s easy to go into a situation and see imperfections, but with some heart and soul you can turn those into perfect.

Hi Chelsea. As for your front door. I’d put weather stripping to fill the gaps. Then I’d buy some awesome window stained glass covering and remove the dark fabric. The outlet could have been used for a small light if it was dark in there. You could use it to charge something. The cabinet around the washing machine is a great idea. Give you storage on top. I love that idea. For the bedroom. Hang some tapestries with command strips or anything with those heavy duty strips. Kitchen floor. I’d caulk the holes before you see bugs. Be proactive instead of reactive. Damn I hate bugs. And hard to get rid of. That’s all🤷🏻♀️. Love your apartment. Oh bathroom. Buy a rubber stopper for the sink. Aaeee! I’ve paused watching this video to share that I live in a house built in 1920 and HAVE THE SAME EXACT cabinet/closet hardware!! It’s a shame they were painted over. It makes them impossible to function properly, ugh. 😕 The thing to do would be to remove them, strip off the paint, and polish them up to their original likely brass… I actually like them. I love the character of these old houses/places and the quality of materials used back then? Top notch. Woods, etc. … I also muse on the notion of all the different lives and human stories that transpired within the same shared space, spanning the eras, it’s very sentimental or romantic in a way…

Love your post! We are kindred souls. My parents' house was built in 1924 and had the same cupboard hardware. It had a cool pebbled texture too. A happy little restoration memory. :-)

It’s a shame when one person decides to paint over the hardware and then every tenant (/landlord) thereafter kind of has to continue doing it as stripping the paint is too laborious for someone just trying to cover dirty/ chipped paint.

I love the carpet, and your art as well, it fits so well in there, it's really cohesive. Love the couch in your living room. Yes the apartment is old, but you work with what you have, and you did great! So you can be proud of everything you accomplished in this apartment. And I have to say, it's really refreshing to follow someone who shows REAL life content with its ups and downs as true and raw as it is. Life is messy, we get overwhelmed, we don't have our sh** together, we have good days but also bad ones and not always the motivation or resilience to move on with plans or just go on with the day ahead... and that's okay. I feel I can relate to what you show, so thanks for that. Best regards.

No, this salmon color is way way better. The green was too loud. I do get it though if she likes it that is all that matters. 🤷🏽♀️😌

I absolutely love your apartment. I did from the moment I saw it😍. I’m not used to perfect rentals so most of its flaws don’t bother me. I just love it 😍. And it’s in Queens, New York! Ps. I’m happy you liked the flowers. I picked them out myself. 😁🇸🇪

You could try: Storing your empty suitcases on the top shelf in the tall entry closet. Rotate your kitchen island 180° to make the side you use more feel more open (& reorganise the cabinets: move your pots etc into the island, love your laundry stuff etc into the pot cabinet, move your tea & spices into the cabinet above the sink, move the dry goods that you don’t often use from the over sink cabinet into the lower pots etc cabinet. This may also create more space when you need to wheel your washing machine into the kitchen. The middle room: you could switch the machine & dining areas, or the machine and desk areas. You can buy a desk tabletop and tall legs in ikea (very inexpensive) hang a curtain underneath, and conceal your washing machine, shoe rack, and even laundry hamper all underneath. It would be nice to have a view into the living room from your dining table. For the bathroom I’d buy sticky hooks so you can hang your towels closer to the shower. I have endless tips if you’d like 😅

Chelsea! Another bathroom upgrade that doesn't require much money/maintenance: change your shower rod! Mine was the same low-grade silver and I swapped it for a matte black and it has made a big difference in my bathroom (which is the size of a closet). Love the video!!!

but her bathroom is already so small, i fear that a dark shower rod would make it appear even smaller and darker
@MandyBarry7 ай бұрын
I have a pretty small bathroom that’s the same 1950s style and I found that the rods that jut out and slightly curve give a whole lot of extra room inside the shower but doesn’t distract or take up more visual space from the outside of the shower ❤ I love a good diy upgrade 🥰

I have the exact same tiles in my bathroom and I have the colourful "junglely" shower curtain from Ikea, which I think goes very well with the blue & also the black and woodcolours.

1. The apartment looks amazing 🤩 2. You and your mother look so much alike 😍 3. Love the quote on your whiteboard ✍ 4. The introduction with the flowers 💯 5. Please look away from negative comments if they appear (fingers crossed they don't). This apartment should reflect style, not everyone else's ⭐ 6. As always, thanks for being real and making great content 👏

Okay I just watched your apartment tour your vent hood in your kitchen definitely paint it lol they make paint for metal painted white. Also I would check with the landlord and ask if you could paint the cabinets paint it white lol put some handles on. In your bedroom and the cabinets in the hallway to have the cute little handles if you get paint stripper and just brush it on let it dry and it'll crinkle it up and peel it off and it'll take it back to the beautiful brass color it probably is. So all those little quirky things from 1924 will come out and look beautiful in that apartment. But you've done a great job you have come a long way.❤

I have to say I absolutely love your vlogs. And your apartment has come so so far!!! You know, even though the blue in the bathroom isn’t your total vibe, you could also get some cool and simple prints to shift the vibe! And a black metal shower caddy that could shift the look of the blue too. Or some fake greenery? (And we have the coolest under keurig storage for our pods. It’s like a little drawer thing!) But you have absolutely transformed this place. The dining room!! Omg love! I know we are all so proud of you and the work you have done!❤

Random suggestion for hiding the washing machine - an Ikea Ivar shelf. The bigger version is 22" deep, 35" wide.. Solid pine, paintable and flexible shelving.
@megmulholland45187 ай бұрын
Funny you mention an Ikea idea, I was just batting around one myself. I was envisioning how to incorporate and "hide" the washer in a total back wall build-out using Billy glass doored bookcases. One on each side, one on the left, one on the right. Then, between those tall bookcases, custom build a "garage" where she parks the washer.. she could use the curtain idea to cover the front and then use the top for any number of things. Maybe, instead, make her desk area look like a part of the build. So that entire back blank wall looks like a custom built-in. She has to move the table, but someone else mentioned how it might be nice if the table views into the living room. She could put it where her desk is now, or how about even centering the table in the space? (Yeah, I know, that wouldn't work with the benches, but- could repurpose?) Gosh it's fun mentally playing around with someone else's place for whatever reason lol 😂

This is technically a comment for a different video of yours that I watched. I’m originally from NY (Queens and LI), and I moved away 20 yrs ago! Hard to believe it’s been that long. I’m ready for a change and watching your NY experience reminded me of how much I love home and how much I miss the city. There’s no place like it. So it’s settled - I’m moving back. Thanks for the inspo. Seriously.

Had to comment again to say the apartment setup did not take you long at all. These things don’t happen overnight and honestly it’s ever evolving. I’ve lived in my condo for almost 15 years and am only now do I really feel settled and happy when I look around. You’re ahead of the game.
