Thank you all for the kind comments and thank you Adalia for creating a safe space to share my story. If anything I said inspires another Black woman to take control of her finances and pursue freedom, it was worth the tears. 💖

OMG. Thank you for this. This is exactly what I've planned. I hope to gain that peace. I am so ready to go. I am not renewing my lease that ends 8/31. I hope not to return but if I do it will be only for a few more months to work stack some more cash before returning permanently. I am so ready to reset. Sending peace and love.

Adeliah! KINDNESS in the struggle of life is rare towards sistas...historically. Social supports for anyone is important. Mothers overall bear greater weights in society and sistas, greater still! Environmental presses are real. No sista can do WELL without support public and private spaces. It is the latter that holds our heart and hands. HERE, I'm reminded that self-care is a personal responsibility. Choose YOU with care and that's the best thing for everyone. The tortoise WON the race!

Great Video!!!! I work in the school system & so can relate to everything said on this video. The insurance thing is a big deal. I carry the insurance for the family & have so many people relaying on me. I literally feel trapped in the hustle culture. My story is extremely tear jerking as well 😢. Thankful to have a job but overwhelmed & exhausted. Mentally & physically. In the 55 & over crew now & pray for strength to keep going. Thank you ladies for the information.

I totally agree that people should be mindful of jumping to conclusions and stereotyping others. It always seems like what they meant for a person's harm is transformed into motivation that is good for the person. Although something good comes out of it, they still can cause a lifetime of hurt.

Okay, this was really good! So proud of Malika for 'proving them wrong!' Totally agree Adalia, kindness and thoughtfulness usually cost us nothing, so putting ourselves in someone else's shoes would do most of us a world of good. Also, about anyone feeling that going to community college is starting off with a second-class education... so wrong! The first two years of college are basically taught the same way at most colleges and universities. You more than likely won't miss out on any major advantages with a community college associate degree, but you probably will miss out on the major debt incurred at university. Florida, even before their current governor started setting the state on fire, offers a guarantee to attend any of their state schools after completion of a community college degree there. Not a bad deal!

In college, I met several people who completed their first 2 years at a community college & then transferred to a 4-year University. I advise young people & their parents to consider this route but people rarely do this. I definitely would have done it, if it had been on my radar.

I did but I was forced to...I did it at first to get into a tough school-small liberal arts college. I needed more academic grades not just art...it worked and I went to a very good school. It is a very good idea to do 2 years cc and then transfer. In fact colleges look for BRIGHT cc students to transfer in.

Great interview, nothing is more motivational than knowing you can accomplish more than what and where you are and if you can tell a few people to kiss your a$$ as well? That is just gravy. The best revenge is living well. The college should be secondary to what degree you are getting and what salary expectation that profession offers. Spending $40K a year to go to school to take a job that is going to pay you $35K a year is insane. CC and scholarships, work/school taking on so much debt is another way to keep you in a particular place.
