This isn't just combining Hindustani and Carnatic singing styles, it's also a mixing of instruments as well. The flute is found in both styles, but the mridangam (on the far left) and violin were originally exclusive to Carnatic music while the tabla originally came about to accompany Hindustani singers. The REALLY big drum at the back is the khol, similar in construction to the pakhawaj and almost as old. There is also a kanjira being played in the back - the original form of the tambourine, also found originally in Carnatic music. There are thousands of years of musical tradition on display here in all their glory. If I saw this live, I'd probably be crying.

flutes are also distinct.. which were being used?

He is singing the Southern Indian classical music called Carnatic music. The lyrics are in the Southern Indian language, Tamil. She is singing the Northern Indian classical music called Hindustani music. The lyrics are in the Northern Indian language, Hindi. In between she sings in the Tamil language though she is from the North. The sudden applause is an appreciation of her flawless pronunciation in Tamil.

Sandeep Narayan is an absolute underrated gem of a singer. You guys really should listen to Ennappan allava from him. It's a classic, elevates you to another level. You'd be blown away by the sheer size of the show from Isha Foundation, an absolute celebration for Lord Shiva and they stay up all night for the Maha Shivrathri every year.

North & south Indian Music coming together in this Raga Hamsadhvani defining the boundary conditions of the improvisations/embelishments are defined by the rules of the Raga. In this case, the ascending notes: S R G P N Ṡ, and the descending notes: Ṡ N P G R S .(the notes are what they are poronouncing). Hamsadhvani falls into the family of early night (9-12) Raags. The prominant note is S and the second most prominant is R. The different embelishments by the singers, ie the way they tranverse and touch the micronotes so well enchant the listener, to enjoy both the Hindustani and the Carnatic styles. Its amazing how the classical singers learn to be so free yet stay so precicely within the Raga being sung, which number in three figures.

Yay! Full video on this, was waiting for it. So satisfying to see you guys left speechless and mindblown at the end, other performance of this night are also there on Sounds of Isha channel, if you would want to listen to them in your free time. Kaushiki is a Sadhguru deciple so she goes to Isha often and has done other performances there as well. The song is directed towards him and he is sitting right there, so it makes it come from the heart even more. When this performance happened, it came out as a surprise for the audience as we were not told beforehand there would be a performance. People had all gathered for a meditation and yoga program. 😂

The "feeling of elation" you mentioned is because the raag is designed this way. It's called "Raag Hamsadhwani" which translates to Swan's Melody

Indian classical music is a formidable discipline, demanding extraordinary skill and talent. Mastery of this art form requires unwavering dedication, patience, and a profound grasp of its intricate nuances. In contrast to Western music, Indian classical music poses challenges that even accomplished Western singers may find exceptionally difficult. 🎶🌟

What Kaushiki ji and Sandeep ji did in the ending is jugalbandi. And it is not competing but complementing each other mixing two different classical styles. The Raag sung here is Hansdhwani or Hamsadhwani translating to Swan voice. Oru murai means one glance or one look. What they are singing though is this: Devotee is saying to god- What is this relationship between you and me, I don't understand. What is this relationship between you and me, I don't understand. My eyes don't shut in your hope, watching your path. What is this relationship between you and me, I don't understand. My eyes don't shut in your hope, watching your path. When you held my soul and I saw you in a glance, I came to know myself. When you held my soul and I saw you in a glance, I came to know myself. I don't know Tamil so I don't know what Sandeep ji is singing. I am sorry. Oh btw, give this one a chance too. Tum Aa Jaa Na Bhagwan, Raag Bhairavi, Kaushiki Chakroborty and Sudha Raghunathan. Another masterpiece b/w Hindustani and Carnatic music.

Continuously chatting, not the way to listen to classical music, if they are really enjoying music they would listen quietly
@jamesgeorge77714 күн бұрын
KZbin will give copyright strikes if the videos are continuous. The discussion is done to circumvent the KZbin algorithm. They are also discussing how Indian classical music would sound to someone who is listening to it for the first time. Both of them did a fabulous job comparing the styles of music in the West as well as in India and reminded viewers that classical training for music is foundational and a good platform for learning for all aspiring singers. This is a reaction channel therefore it is their goal to not just listen quietly but to also react, respond, communicate and share their true feelings with the viewers on what they are listening to. They are doing an amazing job compared to other reaction channels and they really respect and appreciate all kinds of music.
