I feel like the first one is a bit more optional. Hear me out, personally I organize my manga by series genre such as romance, shonen, isekai, etc. While I am leaving space for manga I want to finish in the future I don’t recommend just leaving space. I recommend adding items such as box sets, figures, Nendroids, etc, I do this so that I won’t feel pressured into buying more and focusing on reading them instead. But this is just from personal experience so take this comment with a grain of salt.
@mangatama2 жыл бұрын

I like to have my stuff organized alphabetically because it just makes it easier for me to find what I’m looking for when I want to reread something. But at the end of the day your setup just needs to be unique to you and your needs weather that be color coordinated or by genre

Great advice! As someone who has been collecting manga since 2006, I have to say: PACE YOURSELF! Rome wasn’t built in a day, so a manga collection that looks like a library/bookstore most likely won’t happen overnight! Just because someone has a lot of manga doesn’t mean that they are rich. I see these types of comments all the time. This is a hobby that is supposed to be fun and joyful. It’s not a competition. Get series that YOU enjoy, not something that you feel pressured into reading just because it’s popular. Also, make a catalog list of what you have already and ones that you wish to add to your collection. This helps keep you organized and helps (not completely fool-proof) prevent duplicate purchases. I’m guilty of buying duplicates and then don’t know what to do with them… 😅 Happy collecting! 👍🏻

Great tips! All I’d add is that for the omnibuses be cautious of their quality. Some are very cheaply made and since the books are so large they are known for being hard to read without damaging the spine.

Rearranging the shelf gives a great opportunity to also clean and dust your storage for your manga collection, as well as also giving you the chance to clean/dust your manga. I love manipulating my collection to reacquaint myself with my different series and update my home library catalog. Edit: this is also a great time to curate/cull.

A big tip for manga collectors who, like me, much rather buy in stores than online. KEEP A LIST OF WHAT YOU HAVE, HAVEN'T AND WANT. I ended up buying so many duplicates because i forgot i already had a volume or a version of a certain series and found out way later because i forgot to put them in the shelfs or it was a "u buy it, can't give it back" type of deal. So have a list in your phone of the series that you collect, with the number of the volumes that you haven't bought yet.

The tip about holding off on buying new shelving until you have an idea of how much you want to collect is so crucial. I’ve gone through a hundred different shelving arrangements (and a lot of money) when I should’ve just waited for “the one” 😅
@jugemujugemugokounosurinantoka2 жыл бұрын
For the stray volumes problem, if you are ever lucky enough or have ever been to anime cons, most cons have a manga lounge area to just sit down and chill to read manga. Besides reading manga, some manga lounges allow you to swap some of your manga for any extra inventory the manga lounge may have. That's how I was able to get rid some of my extra volumes while also increasing my collection at the same time.

This was a great video! I’ve been collecting for a little while now. I dropped the hobby for several years, but I picked it back up recently. I have ADHD, so collecting manga was quite the struggle at first to not blow all of my money on it. My advice would be to purchase chronologically and don’t buy scalped. Choosing a series or 2 to hyper focus on finding helps me to not spend as much money on the hobby. That’s also why I will only purchase the series in chronological order, too. This way I can read it up to where I have purchased it and not have any unread series on my shelves. And lastly, the reason for not buying from scalpers is fairly obvious, since they over charge for the books you’re looking for and they know that someone is likely to buy it for their asking price. It’s better to be patient and buy it at retail price when it’s in stock. Plus it supports the artists who made the series, instead of some person trying to prey on fans.

I don't even know why i'm watching this, I've been collecting for the past 9 years ^^" But these are great, beginner-friendly tips! Especially the one about checking the completion status of a series before buying :') I've got quite a few i'll never finish collecting because the publisher just stopped printing new volumes. They just continuously resell the old ones. Another tip - if you've got a big collection with lots of long series/oneshots, it might be a good idea to start a spreadsheet or some kind of list for volume tracking. This way, you can avoid accidentally buying doubles (mostly works for online shopping, but if you upload it to your cloud/google drive it can also turn out useful in physical stores).

Not sure if anyone else has said it but when buying a manga, flip through the pages to see if any pages are faded. I recently bought many volumes of the Chainsaw Man volume and the 3rd volume had faded pages which were a bit difficult to read from. Unless you are a person which doesn't mind the faded pages, it's always better to check. This video was very helpful!

Omnibus and 3 -in-1s can be made with cheaper/worse paper quality. Also they might have worse binding so you lose a lot into the middle of the page. They can also be harder to read. Not all, but many. I would imagine the complete Death Note volume would be impossible to read.

while omnibuses do take up less space overall, I dislike them because they take up more space as one book. what I mean is that having smaller individual volumes makes it easier to fill a shelf out instead of not having enough room to squeeze a thicker omnibus in that empty space. they also tend to be more unwieldy and difficult to read.

Your point about the Death Note box set being hundreds of dollars is misleading. It's third parties selling them at scalper prices at the moment since there's no stock. Last September I picked up the box set for $90 CAD (on sale but still). Should be obvious that if you're buying from a scalper it's going to be absurdly expensive.

Yes you're absolutely right! I was mainly pointing out the difference between the "easiest ways" to obtain that version, and also buying just from one source (I used amazon in this case).
