I can’t believe I was there when bangtan bombs had no subtitles😭😭 back then bighit would still respond to us on twitter and we hounded them on this 😂 glad that it worked and took a lot of work load off of the army translators, we love you apagos, y’all were and still are the pillars of our fandom

Bro when bts first started the love yourself trilogy and talking about mental health, they got so much shit for it. Mental health is a taboo topic in SK, it’s gotten a bit better now, thankfully. Back then haters were saying bts was using mental health as a marketing tool and disregarding what they say, calling them awful names. It was vile.

BTS are marketing geniuses that's the secret to their success. They where from a small company and couldn't compete with the huge marketing budgets so they did something completely obvious now. They marketed directly to fans instead of going through the industry channels but they didn't market to Korea they marketed to the world.

But now yt, Hanteo and Spotify come together and filtering stream at massive rate and like crazy 2 day views were totally taken off and Hanteo delete 700k sale without explanation 😢 Company doing nothing about it and other group celebrating it.😢😢😢😢 let's stream the mv army 💜💜💜💜💜

it's because they listen to their fans. Armys keep giving ideas like we want sub and it'll be better if people have access to this and this and stuff like that. They actually listen and that makes a huge difference.

I remember when Black Swan dropped and there was just collective ARMY confusion 😂We were all following the comeback map, the Art Film performance of Black Swan had already released in January, we had gone through both ON music videos by the end of February. Nothing else was on the comeback map after the ON official mv. We were all focused on making sure ON was successful and preparing for the tour (😢). Then here they come on March 4, 2020 out of nowhere with this music video with Jin in the thumbnail looking like a sexy vampire. Whole TL was in flames, like they really Beyoncé’d tf outta us 😭😭😭😭😭

Run BTS episodes popularized official personality content in the form of episodes too! Before that, personality content was only created by variety shows. Since BTS switched into self content creation by Run BTS after getting immense disrespect from variety show hosts, it became the most popular personality content from a k-pop act.

Compilation videos- "Funny moments" compilations were popularized by ARMY. Even though we weren't the first ones to create them. Since that was one of the easiest way ARMY found to promote BTS and their fun personalities to a wider audience as BTS was getting popular, this source became one of the biggest ways to market other kpop groups. And nowadays you can find "funny moments/try not to laugh challenges" videos even for the most boring personalities, since instead of marketing music, the fandoms rely heavily on marketing ONLY personalities of idols. A mistake ARMY never did.

And did you know about the platform V-app? The one where artists used to make vlives, and just recently it got dissolved by weverse. V-app was an application found by naver and started in 2016, and was heavily promoted by BTS. BTS was the face of V-app till the very end. BTS' first V-app introduction was one of the very first videos on that app. Run BTS episodes were then showcased on the app, in order to boost it's traction. And that is exactly what happened. V-app was later bought by Weverse and all it's vlives were transferred to weverse.

BTS games, another trend. We have multiple official BTS games including the most recent one called In The Seom. Again, popularized by BTS. BTS documentary series. Paid series focused on the tour, Burn The Stage and all. Now idols have made docu series on Netflix and all. BT21 and Tinytan, Maple Story, BTS mattel dolls (no matter how much we dislike it haha 😅), were all popularized by BTS. Now everybody's got their own collaborations with design houses as such.

A lot of K-pop artist didn’t have English translations bcs a lot of the lyrics back then made no sense😭 there were some exceptions of course but most of it was gibberish. It was one of the reasons why K-pop wasn’t the main genre that SK gp listened to, it was k indie and k hiphop

EDIT: I noticed other groups started saying "I love myself" or many variations of it in their music and it was bugging me. Great to hear her address it - everyone is noticing. But hey, that's what you do when you're trying to get to the top of the ladder with BTS. Problem is the pinnacle of the ladder is in the clouds and unfortunately they'll never get that high. Besides, there's only room for one - and that one is BTS. No, BTS isn't popular in the US because of subtitles. Americans, we, are lazy about things like that. They started adding the subtitles BECAUSE of their growing fan base. As their popularity exploded, so many more English/no other language speakers became ARMY. 💜

Everything that BTS started and did (amazing things) which some haters still refuse to acknowledge. But the more other people deny (they're still in denial til today) BTS' success the more these Seven Men soar higher and higher. If they're not talented as what haters say, they wouldn't be able to last this long. *BTS paved the way and that's a fact.* Other idols think so too.

I’m glad someone else said it. I’ve been noticing other people talking about loving yourself after Bts got bigger. Maybe they think they’ll get more fame if they say the same things Bts does. That’s not how it works. You have to really mean it and you have to make good and relatable music. You also have to be really good to your fans. Bts is the best. Stray Kids are even getting bigger because they are great to their fans. The fans matter so much.

My comment got deleted, 😅 Anyways, here's what I wrote. BTS has been an influence to the k-pop industry in a number of ways. It has been to the point where k-pop stans hardly believe that a lot of things normalised in kpop nowadays have been heavily influenced and popularized by BTS since all of these trends have become a common part of the industry now. But that doesn't eliminate the fact that it was BTS who popularized a lot of elements of k-pop. ARMY, just like BTS, has been influential in popularizing trends on the fandom level.

9:07 Yes, and the Art Film (dance troupe, orchestral version MV) came out first, then they performed the original version on Corden (but we still have not heard the original studio track yet 😆 because MOTS: 7 was not released yet), and then when MOTS & ON finally released, 2 weeks after, without warning, they dropped the Black Swan Official MV. I remember when I saw the tweet, I panicked lol. I clicked that link to the MV so fast 😂

And of course you remember that in their early years BTS were called plagiarists for 'copying' concepts that already existed widely in the industry, like hair colour or school uniforms: yet here we are today with multiple groups directly copying the love yourself concept but doing it in a trivial and superficial way. Any criticisms of them? none that you'd notice. Increasingly obvious that the hate that BTS got was driven by the industry not by normal people.

3:17 I think it’s rather the other way around, because when they became so popular outside of South Korea, they probably thought it would be a good idea to add the English subtitles. So no I don’t think they became so popular because they had English subtitles. I mean shitty music can also have subs but that doesn’t make it any better.

14:37 And that's exactly why I can't take other groups seriously and meet them with wariness. Few groups really prove themselves. Although, most of the time, I also think a lot of it is due to the companies behind them and the environment they create for their artists. BTS marketing team are the real pros, thinking ahead and also managing what they have with excellence.

I‘m a 2013 Army and a 2007 Kpop fan and if I remember correctly BTS/Bighit didn‘t start the english subtitles on MVs. They might have started coherent and good english translated subtitles, but english subs over all happened before their time. I remember EXO (debuted a year earlier) already having them on their first MV and I think JYP artists like 2PM, Wonder Girls and Missa A had them in 2011. It wasn‘t common, but cus JYP also tried to venture into the US market with Rain and Wonder Girls, it makes sense he would add english subs. Which might‘ve been something Bang PD took with him when he left JYP (he was a producer there and he‘s a friend of JYP) and thought to use it with BTS too.

BTS didn’t push this. Everyone was doing ending fairies lmao This is just making common things look like they pushed these things. Psy might’ve said that but other groups had subs as well. K-pop was mainly going towards the Korean audience so why would they put subs for English speakers? Koreans tried but ofc they didn’t have the social media and other resources groups have now. Again, groups like 2ne1,glam, and many more were making songs about loving themselves. That doesn’t mean BTS pushed it. Especially the moonbyul clip, mamamoo have always pushed loving yourself A lot of this is just reaching 🤷🏽♀️

As someone who has been an army for so so so long now, these types of videos really piss me off. BTS are amazing but a lot of these trends that armys claim they did not create or even make trendy. Armys just love to take and claim credit for any little thing. Ending fairies have been a thing since music shows began. Fun ending fairies have been a thing for a long time but it's usually only done by more senior idols and they don't promote as often on those shows as much as younger groups. Comeback maps are typical called comeback schedules and every group/artist does it. A comeback was announced, a schedule for the release of concept photos, mvs, etc was released. It's an extremely common thing.
