I bought a 2023 Citroen ec4 recently with 6k miles for £14k (new they are over £30k) and super happy with it. Very comfortable car with a 7 year 100k battery warranty and I love it. Such a bargain if you can look past the propaganda

I am loving these videos. Really helpful to hear what someone in the know thinks about some of these EVs. Ive had some real beauts of cars in the past that were new/near new, but since I got rid for an old Citron c3 musher outright and no monthly payments, my next move is due to be around the 10-12k mark. So these are really insightful. Even though I don't do many long journeys, having 150m+ range would be a real help, meaning I can literally just charge at home. For a single car household, is that an issue with the battery if its not used to that extent over long periods? Or provided I am sensible, doing only smaller trips and a larger one once or twice a month would be fine? From a battery health perspective. Cheers for the help!
@DefinitelyNotAGuru
@DefinitelyNotAGuru 19 күн бұрын
No, different battery chemistry needs to be handled differently but it’s no issue (lots of batteries like to be always kept between 20-80% whilst others (look up LFP batteries) can be charged regularly to 100% without issue. It’s important to keep charge in the battery however, I hardly ever let mine go below 20% and if I do on a longer run I get it back over 20% as quickly as possible.

Good point on the NCAP rating early on in the video. Your Mii and my eUp gets only 3* because it was based on a car in the early 2000s without many of the (costly) camera based assistance systems. Last decade's 5* is not the same as today's 5*. Euro NCAP should separate ratings for those advanced assist systems.

Great selection. I’m glad you made the point about the battery. People need to accept that, unless you’re very unlucky, an EV battery is good for at least 200,000 miles. And, if you are unlucky you’ve got that great warranty which also covers the drive chain.

Different chemistry types, lots of anecdotal nonesense on all sides but at the end of the day it’s different strokes for different folks at times. I’d rather have to refuel very slightly more often in a 10 year old car than replace cambelt, gearbox, clutch, head gaskets, sensors, exhausts, oil……..

@@shreeshsaurya4203 And if you buy an 8-10 year old ICE car it’s still going to have the same range as the day it was built. And even if the engine or gearbox was shot, most ‘normal’ ICE cars can be kept going with even a £1000 replacement engine or gearbox. What are you going to do with a 10 year old EV that needs a replacement battery?

This is good stuff. When my P*2 is up, the 2nd hand car market is going to be worth looking at if the prices stay as they are! On the battery pretty much all cars come with an 8 year warranty as standard, this would probably only be voided if the car had a CAT write off status. There are a number of cheaper 3rd party battery warranty products available. For any normal use car the battery shouldn't give anyone any worries.

For about £20 you can get hold of an OBD2 dongle and with aapp you can get your own SoH check when you veiw the car and by all accounts they are not far off a mechanica diagnostic tool, nice round up of cars. You have got me thinking about swapping my E208 GT for a little bit more range, probably a Kona, because at my age I'm not a boy racer anymore.

Great video Jim! Another good buy is the 38kWh Hyundai Ionic. My son just got a top spec 2021 model for just over £12k. In this mild weather it actually betters its WLTP range of 195 miles, he's getting over 200 with mostly motorway driving, not seen less than 5 miles/kWh yet. Still got 2 more years of warranty too (5 more on the battery).

I think the Niro was a fair bit bigger than the Kona in the first generation models? Certainly in boot space and perhaps also passenger space? Which may explain the price difference? The latest versions of both are more comparable in size as I understand it (Kona has grown a fair bit).

I simply don’t care to be honest and I don’t understand all the tribalism on both sides - it’s utterly boring. The government needs to do a lot more for those without easy access to home charging (that want it) and I don’t think the government should dictate what anyone drives but remember there’s no ban on driving existing petrol and diesel cars, you just won’t be able to buy new ones in 11 years time. ELEVEN YEARS! There’s just no place for the nonsense on this channel - there are plenty of others doing that. If you don’t want one, don’t get one Lee but please don’t burn any calories worrying about the rest mate. Life is short 👍🙏

EV's are a depreciation disaster. These prices wont do it for alot of people. Private individuals do not buy new ones or buy uses ones. It gets tiring hearing of EV's. Your content about what you can get for your money is good on this and lease deals. However, this is not the future. Trust me, car makers will make the change. Already seeing that with Aston and Mercedes. Watch this space.

Most private buyers purchase 2nd hand. Fleet and lease companies have been sustaining the 2nd hand market as long as they have been around. Private buyers are buying as lease or via salary sacrifice skewing the numbers. This is exactly what the market needs cheap 3yr old EVs. You only lose on depreciation if you are paying cash. Treat it transactional. It costs x per month ands that is what I can afford. You are commenting on a video that shows how cheap they are!
