So many reasons for all of this, the lack of housing building for 15 years is definitely part of it. I'm 69. When I was younger my friends and co workers laughed at me when I would pick up an extra shift a week to buy an affordable home that was easy to qualify for decades back in the day. I paid my 30 year mortgage off in 13 years, drove an old car, didn't go on vacations so I could save, invest, max out my 401K. My peers loved apartment living, the pool, hot tub, no responsibilities and never considered what will happen when they are older. I wonder where they are now. How you live in your 20s, 30s and 40s will determine how you will live in your 50s, 60s and 70s.

People don't plan on getting old. They blow though their cash like it's water and don't save a dime for their future. They work part time jobs and pay rent their whole life. My house is paid off and SS pays me a decent amount to live on. Retirement is great.

I have a family member 31 yes old on the dole. Worked maybe 18 months after high school and that's it. Too lazy to work would rather get a small check every month and keep making excuses. Wonder what she will do when she's 67 with no work experience I don't think she will get SS since she never really paid into the system. Bleak future for her sad to say

@@Gary-t9v I know a man that did the same thing, Too lazy to work and gets $250.00 a month SS. Those are the ones who will vote for the Democrat freebies.

Work hard and save money to pay off your house as soon as possible. Don't live beyond your means. Don't rent past your 30s. Go to a city that is more affordable.

Most of this is due to housing costs. Low income housing is almost always given to young girls who are irresponsible and keep getting pregnant from loser guys rather than seniors. My father was 83 years old and no one could help with housing so my brother and I decided to rent an apartment and live with him until his passing in 2022. It's actually disgusting how seniors are treated.

This is so true! Many seniors in my complex are struggling to eat and pay for medicine., electric and gas. This is unexceptable! I live in a mobile home park, I own the home and my rent for this lot continues to go up! It's almost $1000 a month now. Although it's a senior park, many can no longer afford the rent and will actually have to forfeit there home and find other housing. So sad! Arizona needs to step up and create lots or housing for seniors.

A lot of "investment" groups gobble up mobile home parks because mobile homes are not mobile. They can continue to jack up the rent to line their pockets. Human greed is evil.

Shelters are not the answer! Putting a bandaid temporarily is not fixing the problem! Food pantries are not the answer either. Most seniors would like to keep their dignity and pay their way. Unfortunately there is to much greed here. $1200 or $1400 a month for rent is not sustainable for most seniors living on a fixed income. Wake up America!

we were told our entire lives that we could retire on ssi - but the ssi fund has a $50 trillion i.o.u. from congress ..

"Wake up America"?? This is going on in almost ALL industrial world nations. One part of the problem is the centric thinking . It's not "all about the USA". It's about the kind of banking worldwide that enables corps. and NY and London types to borrow at 1% while the consumer pays at least 5 to 10% (and double that in the eighties) for the same housing money.

Please do not hand those resources over to illegals. We need to protect our homeless citizens who have paid into our tax system and those who have not. Things happen that sometimes cannot be avoided.

Please stop voting Republican because you think illegals might get some help as well as they are the party who votes to stop EVERY bill brought forward by Democrats to assist our homeless citizens who have paid into our tax system and use the whole illegal thing to scare you into voting for them. By voting for them you are literally voting against helping these Americans.

The first dude shouldn't have paid off his mothers medical debt. The hospitals don't need the money and their medical services should be free to citizens, paid for by the state. If the regime has $3000 dollars and hotel room money for every new immigrant, they can pay for homeless veterans and their families medical bills. A mans tax money should not be taken from him and given to foreign men. It must go back into his community first and only once the citizens needs are met can charity be given to foreign peoples- or else the mans tax money should not be taken from him at all, being at that point theft and tribute, not a tax.

He shouldn't have paid the mother's debt because he's not responsible for it. Her estate is, and if she didn't have an estate, the debt doesn't get paid.

I worked in a busy ER for 20 years with these clients in that part of town. Don't believe a word they say. They lie every time with the victim role. It's never the consequences of their choices, bad behaviors, drugs, smokes, drinks, failure to participate in their own well being. There are a few with some bad circumstances. Mostly the lived in their 20s, 30s and 40s without preparing for how they will live in their 50s, 60s and 70s.

@@UncleDavesKitchen They HAD the same opportunity as the rest of us. I worked full time for 40 years and was smart enough to buy a home. I know seniors who still drink a 30 pack of beer every other night, and smoke cigarettes instead of buying food for themselves, but they will be the first in line at the food banks.

It's directly related to the ongoing cuts in section 8 since 1980. It's not going to get better until section 8 gets an infusion of benefits in order to raise senior and disabled section 8 benefits. We are one of the riches countries in the world but we can't house people in poverty, too old, or too disabled. It's outright embarrassing as a nation.

For the ASYLUM SEEKERS from south of the border, healthcare (Medicaid), food (SNAP), room and board (housing), college tuition, monthly Social Security Income, and other benefits, & services are FREE indefinitely for them!

I only vote for the people who get the job done and protect arizona citizens. That happens to be democrats at the current time. Hobbs stopped the Saudis from sucking the desert dry for free. GOP didn't lift a finger. You can't change reality no matter how hard you try. You might socialize with other people experiencing mental decline who believe you but those aren't voters. @@StonerKitchenjust be careful because some of the "homeless" are scams. The News needs to investigate more. I have literally seen ppl stand on McDowell near the highway and then one "homeless' person leaves the spot and another takes her place with the same sign. That's why they only want cash. Who are they working for?
