For your shortcut i suggest making it mushrooms that you bounce on that give you at least one or two item boxes so its at least better to get an item , although to make that work you will have to make it a hole that leads to water

For using Subdiv on Nintendo assets, go to edit mode, select all and merge by distance! They tend to export with loose geometry, and merging them together helps a ton. If the shading looks weird afterwards, you can select all, go to mesh > normals > reset vectors (This is also a fix for coconut mall's funky shading)

Great video as always! ❤ Something about the texture on the pianta statue seems off to me tho. Maybe it's the blue shade or the sleekness. I would suggest searching for some rougher, stonier texture. Like for example how thwomps look like

When lowering polygon count, try using the Decimate modifier or in Edit mode do Delete>Limited Dissolve. These will both have options and a slider that will let you change how many polygons there are. Honestly tho, all GPUs are so fast that polygon count isn't super important anymore (unless you're dealing with literal 10s of millions of polygons). Lighting, shaders, and how many draw calls there are are the real bottlenecks now (and I have zero clue how draw calls work) Edit: I actually learned what draw calls are and they're actually pretty simple! But it's mainly something that's done in the game engine instead of in Blender

Awesome video, I love keeping up with these projects of yours! I'm a bit late to the party, but this might be good for future reference. Fortnite's trees might be good to consider, they have a nice balance between cartooney and realistic, and might fit in well with some Mario Kart tracks!!

I love having something to watch when I get home from fridats after school. My suggestion would be to look Toad's harbor. In the map there's little hanging flags that go in between the roofs of the buildings near the more narrow sections of the streets which could be added to the ones in delfino square to make it feel more "festive" or "alive". Anyways ty!

Could you turn the bridge in the alleyway into a shortcut somehow? Or at least an explorable section. That'd be sweet.
@Vexmus_3 ай бұрын
I love this lil series so much. For the trees maybe throw down a texture or something (im not a great 3d modeller so bare with me) of some scattered leaves and such. Maybe even some on the road itself around there too? Just a thought!
@Arbatraric3 ай бұрын
(4:08) I think a trim around the base on the fountain on the road would do a lot to separate the two, it'd look a lot less like just some model placed on a raod, and more like intentional design of a city

I don't think that Pianta Statue Texture is good. It looks really out of place for me. I would have expected something a bit more withered since it's a old statue, like maybe withered copper or some imperfections in general. But other than that, everything looks quite amazing.
@MewMewMeadows3 ай бұрын
The alleyway is coming along nicely! BTW, don't forget to take breaks from just one section and turn your attention to the other areas, every now and then! 😉 Also, why not place a few benches among the section after the drawbridge? (Unless you're saving those for the park shortcut) 🙃

Stumbled onto your account recently and this is really interesting to watch. Small thought. I know you said you're not big on the gimmicks added, but maybe there could be a section for the glider on the bridge when it's raised up?
@spiritsarise46653 ай бұрын
I have an idea, why not have the trees in the middle of their own leaf piles? If there are leaves on the floor, clearly that means they're falling off the trees, and therefore should be piling around each one to varying degrees :D This would also make the grass look more vibrant i think :D

Something that could use some work is the textures on the buildings. They look more like something from Mario 64 and look like it’s slapped with a JPEG. The brick floors also look too dark for my liking and I really miss the original look of the Wii version. Maybe you can use the old texture and try and remake it?
@_vanessajane3 ай бұрын
I think it's alright, except for the yellow buildings. Those bricks look more like they'd belong to an Egyptian pyramid rather than an actual house. Aside from that, I'm fine with the textures of the buildings. The original textures look way too cartoony to fit in with the rest of the track's design
