Took the feedback like a champ and the track looks SO much better from last video. Buildings are looking great and the trees are slowly becoming more believable. Experimenting with the grass texture may be a good idea. You pointed out how the track looked desaturated and I think bringing in a more green grass will help improve it. You can also try using different trees entirely. You mentioned how you wouldn't use palm trees, but it could be worth a shot to see how the vibes of the track change.

the buildings look a lot better! only thing id say for them is that i think itd be really cool if you added back the green mushroom block brick sorta things from the old building texture onto the new yellow buildings (probably as just little bricks that stick out slightly more) because i feel like those add a lot of character and mario-ness to the buildings for lack of a better term. i have no idea what those green mushroom brick things are even supposed to be but i think thats part of the charm. this is looking amazing now though, i think the more saturated grass also made a big difference. im excited to see where this goes next

Absolutely love how this is coming together! Throwing my own opinion into the ring with a few things, I’ll start with the trees. I think the base shape you’ve got now is really good, keeping it fairly close to the original shape- but they need more definition. Something I like about both the original trees and the shroom ridge ones you’ve based the current ones on is the defined layers, what you’ve got now is a good realistic design but I think you should lean more towards a stylized one. Next up the buildings are looking great, but like you said everything feels a bit desaturated and dull. Brightening up the grass and sky box do a ton to help the problem though it might be good to add a few more pops of color back to the buildings as well. You don’t have to bring back stuff like the mushroom bricks, but changing the window frame or curtain colors might help if that’s something that can be done All in all i think adding a touch more color and defining a few of the smaller details, (the new stairs, foundations etc) a bit more should help a ton. No matter what happens, I’m excited to see where this project goes. Keep up the great work!

I really like the forest shortcut; it keeps the spirit of the original track whilst adding a new path. The alley is also a nice touch as the best city tracks always imply roads and paths that you just can’t reach. In regards to the Pianta statue, my only ideas would be to recolour a normal Pianta model from Mario Kart 8 or to just upscale the original model.

The track is look really good now. I think a neat thing to add would be slight elevation changes in the ending grass section (specifically just in the offroad) to make it look less flat and less like something from the Wii.

Personally, my recommendation is to use the Mario kart eight animal crossing trees because I feel like those would bring a lot of pop and fun to the track
@mescalero_33094 ай бұрын
I think for the shortcut you should make it, so it looks like an alleyway leading to the right and in that alleyway is a ramp which you use to jump onto the top of the end building which is just one story tall. And I guess make it a mud shortcut before the ramp, like the original shortcut and in the park dont have it offroad, so you can make the route through the park a little squiggely, as to not make the shortcut too op. You can also have the driver reenter overtop or possibly even through a building. Ps love this series and also these shorter videos, which not only allow you to make more videos again, but also allows you to get more commubity feedback whilst working on your projects

I think what makes the trees look a little off is that in the original track's trees, they had a more cartoony and vibrant yellow hue to contrast with the other desaturated elements in the track, also they weren't just a bunch of leaves slapped on a texture, they had this layered effect that gave them a little more depth considering it's mesh was so simple.

I think you should make the trees a nice and bright yellow (without being too eye-straining) and make them fade into a nice dark orange (but not quite brown). I also think a couple of autumn leaves scattered along the ground near the trees on the grassy area would be a nice touch. If you're really daring, maybe you could add two, three or even four piles of autumn leaves on the grass. Hope this helps, and I look forward to your next video!

Adding the colorful flags and clothing that hang on strings going over the roads would give the model a lot more color, also the wii version made all the grays and building colors darker than ds for some reason, brightening the textures a bit could help the look while still being faithful to the original
@gonegone28204 ай бұрын
I think the new textures on the buildings don't work at all, and I think the problem lies with the texture on the yellow-brownish buildings being over scaled, as well as not aligning with the outcroppings and windows of the building, possibly shrinking the texture will help. The grey buildings also use a brick floor texture, which has several problems. The first being they're vertically stacked, which is not how bricks are laid for buildings (try searching for "Running brick pattern" textures). The pillars on the buildings also share a similar issue of being more of a floor texture that doesn't work on a vertical surface. I also think the edges of the beams don't align correctly, using a seamless texture or adjusting them to has a seam on the edges would help make them look better. I'm also a bit confused by the style of this revamp, the roof texture and trees are very cartoonish textures, but the building walls, grass and floor are very realistic textures, potentially leaning into one more solid style may help. Also maybe bringing in some more of those mushroom awnings may help with detail over the windows and balconies. For those trees as well as it's mandatory to comment, I think the texture is just too noisy at this point, as well as the leaves being very large. I like the technique of a transparent texture overlay on the solid leaves texture to add depth, but I think if the leaves were a bit more simplified (maybe by using a posterization effect?) may help. Overall though think you're doing a great job on this revamp, and I'm excited to see what you do in the future for it!

love this project, for adding the park short cut (love the idea) could you make it longer (or theoretically would need a mushroom to get on) I know this isn't going to be a playable map but I think it would be cool if you think about where adding short cuts cus by the looks of it it would invalidate the original path if its all drivable path. Perhaps if you bring the short cut to be more square and as it bends to be an L shape it has a curve/hump to leading into where you re-join the track (maybe you could mushroom over through some trees to skip that little hump) really anything to make the new path not make the old one pointless. Love these updated tracks you've been making they look great, can't wait to see what you add next

As a person who plays competitive MK8 a lot, I think that shortcut is really massive. Could you make it a bit more windy (maybe using the antigravity to drive on the sides of buildings if you're feeling adventurous), or make the whole thing offroad so it requires a mushroom? Or have them drive around a small fountain in this shape 'u‾ (steal the one from super bell subway)? Thanks Also, I am really liking how the buildings are looking. i’m surprised u haven’t checked out the models in Yoshi’s Ciruit with the small town one the lower part of the island, and if u are still doubtful about the trees you can always use the ones in the tracks like WaterPark, Mario Circuit, Toad Harbor, etc and retexture to yellow/orange to fit with the autumn feels and to be alongside the more hd revamp style of the og mk8. I think u are worrying too much about the trees being the same shape/size of the original one. Also u can always mix trees, like those that are like ‘big bushes’ that you used on your first attempt on the trees. Lastly, I feel like the track is way too dark, even in the original, and that’s maybe something u can fix! Maybe by playing with textures with amore colors that merge well with the autumn color palette and others that aren’t all stone! PS: Maybe u can use the falling petals from Royal Raceway and integrate them into the track!

I don’t know exactly what you did with the grass but from what you’ve shown blending white into the existing color of the grass just makes it more bright instead of vibrant. I would adjust the HSV of the grass texture and add some more saturation to add vibrancy.

The new buildings are a definite step up but I kinda feel like the green mushroom theming of the old yellow buildings added a splash of color that is just gone now. In a previous part, I saw you try to model the green mushroom details in 3D based on the texture and I fee like now that the building is a more detailed model, those would look great!

I feel like the shortcut idea would be really busted on an actual track, since it basically avoids an entire section of the track. The track already has a couple of shortcuts, one of which is very strong if you pull it off, so I feel like a third would be a bit much for this course.

The new buildings do _so_ much for the visuals. Though from a gameplay standpoint, the route you had drawn out for the shortcut maybe was cutting off a bit _too_ much. hey - great video! it was a fun watch. if i have some critique, the trees probably look off still because it's a realistic texture put onto a shape made with highly stylized texturing in mind - as a result it makes the realistic texture look off and pasted on. perhaps you could try messing with the geometry to get a slightly more natural look to the trees, i know there's some 3d leaves applied to get the effect but it does still look a bit off so i think more needs to be done or perhaps instead what could be done is you can try to go back to the original texture and add depth to the tree model itself, adding bumps to the leaves etc. idk how to really describe it but basically see it as a faithful hdification where only the model is updated

I’d change the grout/mortar pattern in the gray buildings to a different color. Most Mario worlds and levels, with the possible exception of Galaxy 1, either had much bigger chunkier bricks or far less contrast. SM64 had a color palette closer to what you’ve got, but you could get way too up close and personal so it felt bigger. The smaller, high-contrast one you have here to me immediately clocks in as “Dark Souls vibes”. I know that’s not entirely fair, since some of that is the way Blender’s preview works and some of it is the fact that going through at cart-level and at speed gives a different experience, but it still doesn’t feel quite right
