I never fall into the trap of eating at the resort restaurant anything other than breakfast because most places offer the same menu based around eggs, oatmeal, toast, etc. Eating like the locals is where you'll get the real value and flavor of the culture.
@jjryan13523 жыл бұрын
It depends on your stomach. Some people easily get upset stomach just from the traveling, let alone trying new food, and street food at that. People who've tried different foods and can handle spicy foods don't have a problem. You do need a rather strong stomach to handle random street food. But yes absolutely the way to go if you can handle it. Some people travel around the world staying at nice hotels and resorts and eat and drink pretty much the same things they do at home. I don't get that.
@OrbObserver3 жыл бұрын
@@jjryan1352 I really don't understand the point of travel if you aren't interested in local culture (which food is a huge part of), You could just stay at a nice hotel in your own city but I guess then you wouldn't be able to brag about it on social media.

The thing I miss most about living so close to the southern border is the Mexican food. Not the bastardized Tex-Mex, THIS kind of food. It was definitely a huge culture shock for me because I lived in Indiana. One of my coworkers took me to a ton of little stands, shops, and trucks for lunch when I got there and he basically ordered food for me. It made me pretty much a Mexican food snob afterwards.

All inclusive resorts are to drink, not to eat. Wake up, have whatever mediocre breakfast they have, walk a bit, find a populated food truck, eat to your heart's content, walk back to the hotel and drink away the night. If you feel like having dinner leave the hotel once again, find another place to eat (your nose will guide you). Enjoy the stupid cheap delicious Mexican street food, go back to the hotel and have a couple drinks to ease digestion after having such a party of flavor going through your mouth. Rinse and repeat for as long as you stay.

Cancun, playa del carmen, oaxaca, san miguel de allende, san pedro. Those are one of the big money traps here in mexico. If someone really wants to go to any of those places and have a limited budget, do what locals do. Maybe even ask a random person in the street where can you find good and/or cheap food. And take a look at the prices, there are some people that will charge you more because of how you look. This can be applied to more stuff, like souvenirs, clothes, shoes or whatever.

Well said jack, media and bad propaganda make méxico look bad to visitors, rate of murders, shootings, hate crimes, etc etc, is way way higher on nortamerica, ofcourse a lot of bad things happen in méxico but on any other country as well.

If you didn't get it in a locally owned restaurant in Mexico. You probably didn't try Mexican food. 😞 You probably got "TexMex, AzMex, Southwestern food" Hopefully you got a Good version of that! 🙂

I've been there!! Playa Del Carmen looks like paradise. And the Hotel I stayed at was on another level. Like the whole thing was in a jungle and was all open. I was right next to the beach and the water was crystal clear. It was absolutely amazing there.
