Yes, big hits happen every game

I played high school football playing Left Tackle. In general,, Left Tackle is the last big guy on the left of the offensive line. Im about 185cm tall and i weighed around 135 KG big. The Left tackles main job is to protect the Qb from getting hit to their blind side. They say that the Qb is the highest paid position, the Left Tackle is the insurance policy.

Great reaction... it is tough watching that many brutal hits right in a row.
@maizeman902 жыл бұрын
3:28 that hit in the Penn State vs Michigan game ended both players playing careers. Absolutely brutal hit.

College = 3-4 years generally then if you are good enough you go to the NFL draft. A lot of undrafted players can still make the NFL but only the top 1% of college players will make it to the pros every year, similar to rest of pro sports.

Also all these guys are 18-21 and only get bigger in the pro's 😭

Crazy!!! I had to remind myself in the middle of watching the video how young they are lol

As a defensive back (the person who guards the wide receivers), most of the time the person giving the hit ends up taking more damage than the person getting hit. At least from my expierience.

Interesting, I thought it was the opposite

@@moremilo yea, usually both people get major migraines or headaches. but its not as bad as it seems. sometimes a big hit just gets your adrenaline pumping really fast.

Very true.. because (by rule) you have to lead with your shoulder when hitting there have been a good amount of collarbone fractures of some of the NFLs hardest hitters.. I had a coach who put his playing career to the side during college due to a complete tear in his clavicle ligaments.. said when he got up after his hit on the receiver his collarbone was almost touching his jaw due to the ligaments suffering full tears and separating from his shoulder

One thing I hear a lot of Europeans say outside this particular video is that they look down on gridiron football (or American football as people call it) because they play with pads unlike those who play rugby (I played both). In reality, because pads provide them with a bit of cushion on the inside and they're hard on the outside, it only influences players to hit harder and pretty much use their pads and helmets as weapons. Hit like gridiron football players in rugby and that's career ending and possibly deadly for both players, as well as a red card.
@Toakshow2 жыл бұрын
The hit at 3:35 is said to be the worst hit in college. Both players never played football again

I saw that live and immediately said to the guy watching the game with me that we might have seen someone's career end. Turns out it was both of them. Still to this day the hardest hit I've ever seen.

My sophomore year jn the 1994 a senior died on the field from another team. He Had caused a head injury in a previous game. He also broke his helmet in that game and told no coach and borrowed a helmet from a teammate who didn't play much. So sad at age 17.

The hit where they said "In today's college football you're just not going to be able to do that anymore" and you said, Thank you Thank you was totally legal and the referees had to admit it afterward.

kids are taught to bounce up and how to land after big hits. Sometimes The person will get knocked out start a “football move” and freeze. Others just fall lifelessly to the turf and start writhing around as if there’s something in their uniform they can’t get out

Anywhere between the shoulder line and above the knees is good as long as you don't lead with the helmet (spearing). But football tackling is fundamental and pretty much just like rugby tackles. Hit wrap them up and drive them backwards. You can't always get that kind of line up so, we get the highlights. "Stuff happens" @ full speed. Not all of it intentional as a lot of folks believe. So yeah they had to step up and get better, cleaner hits. But football is a contact/near-combat sport. Safety is a concern but the violence is the draw. They are just trying to make it safer. It's good because you see a lot more proper technique during game play.
@RustCole012 жыл бұрын
I played QB all the way up thru college and IMO, getting wrapped up at the waist and body slammed is by far the most painful type of hit. Getting de-cleated is no picnic but adrenaline can kinda help you shake it off. You feel it more the next day. But I distinctly remember that helpless feeling of releasing a pass just as a Linebacker was starting to lift me off the ground and bury me into the turf. Get the wind knocked out of ya and you're head slams off the ground. It's unpleasant.
@AsianDudeee2 жыл бұрын
i played defensive end and tackle my first year then switched to center after and i love the contact i invite it we just smash helmets 90% of the time

When you play defense, you dream of making hits like that. As a ball carrier, you pray you don't get hit like that. Been on both sides of the hits, both painful, but less painful doing the hitting. Better to give than to receive.

Most of these hits are now illegal for one of two reasons. 1 the tackler lead with his head. It called targeting and you get eject for it. And 2 is hitting a defenseless player. So basically, you can't knock someone's block off unless they are looking at you. Shoulder hits are legal, and you can wallop someone good with a shoulder check just ask the guys who play hockey. And hit to the head is bad. No one wants to die although it has happened.

If you haven't yet you should watch the movie Concussion with Will Smith. Based on a true story where Smith's character takes on the NFL. Best line in the movie. "Your going after a corporation that owns a day of the week." American Football is by far the biggest sport in this country and soon to be the world.
@Terrell0702 жыл бұрын
The hit you saw at 2:32 is a Targeting foul. Targeting is a 15 yard penalty and an automatic first down, it also is an automatic ejection for the player that committed the foul. A player who commits targeting in the 2nd half of a game is also disqualified for the first half of the next game. The NFL doesn't have a targeting rule, but the same play would just fall under unnecessary roughness. The offending player can be ejected, but it's at the officials' discretion. The NFL player can also be fined by the league, and probably will be. The NFL has fined players for wearing the wrong socks, and for wearing their socks wrong. A yellow flag is thrown by the officials whenever they spot a foul by either team. If an offical spots two fouls on the same play then he'll throw his hat for the 2nd one. The other team has the option to accept the penalty, or the result of the play. If both teams commit fouls during the same play they offset. Exception: In the NFL if one team commits a 5 yard penalty, and the other commits a 15 yard penalty, then only the 15 yard penalty counts. There aren't enough NFL teams to go around & College Football has been around since 1869, while the NFL didn't exist until 1920. If you haven't watched it yet, see the video The Rules of American Football. It's very basic but it will help you understand the game. After that you could check out NFL Knowing the Rules Moments & NFL Not Knowing the Rules Moments.

it is actually crazy how big some of these guys are in real life. my wife and I used to be season ticket holders for the university in our area and they would have radio interviews and things that at restaurants where the players would come out and we would go to all of them. i'm 6"5 287 lbs and these kids would dwarf me like I was freaking 8 years old.
@danjohnson29862 жыл бұрын
300lbs is 136.1 kilos. Yes. There are some massive human beings in football at this (college) and the pro level. Yet incredibly fast for their size. There was a player named Vernon Davis who ran a 4.82 40 yard dash (36.6 meters) while being 6’6” (198cm) weighing 340 lbs (154 kilos). That’s a big man running at you full speed, who’s not going to stop with vicious intent to run over or through you. That man is a unit. That’s why they go pro (NFL).

as a former player i played to win the game. normally whoever wants to win more ends up winning. between winning and losing the winning team always wins. as i used to say- you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and lose every base you don't steal.
